  1. ....an' ya gots ta git rid of them sleeves
  2. ya got them words spelt wrong. First, I don't ever use "thangs". Second, it's "s'posed ta" not "supposed to" WD40 is fer when things is s'posed ta move and don't...duct tape & bailin' wire fer when things move when they ain't s'posed ta. ...and ya fergot the bailing wire WD40 fer when things is s'posed ta move but don't....duct tape & bailing wire fer when they ain't s'posed ta move and do
  3. Yup. My thoughts exactly. I just wish I had more gears in reverse....wouldn't mind a lower "low" either. I wonder why they don't move 4th gear to the high range "low" position, move all of the low range gears up one hole, and add a lower "low" gear? ...or better yet, why can't they just put a splitter on the T310ME to get the 20 forward gears w/ multiple shift possibilities in reverse, too
  4. I wanna say the Fuller prolly has a .73 OD. The Mack is a .71. The only detail you are omitting is the tire size, which makes a difference. 11R24.5's are roughly 44". LP 24.5's and 11R22.5's are both around 42". LP 22.5's are going to be in the 40" ballpark. http://www.4lo.com/calc/gearratio.htm I would guess the Fuller 13/3.73 is riding on either LP 24.5's or 11R22.5's...either way would put the truck at 55 mph @ 1200 rpm. I would also guess the Mack 13/3.93 is riding on LP 22.5's, which would put the truck at 55 mph @ 1300 rpm.
  5. It ain't a DOT legal fix (then again, neither is duct tape), but carry a couple of these in the truck too...
  6. I used the same trick the other day to fix a radiator hose on a company petercar so he'd be able to make it back to the yard. I carry at least 2 or 3 rolls of the gray wondertape in the truck at all times
  7. Getcha some handi-wipes...they make some that clean up greasy hands real good. Use them to wipe down the air line real good, then dry with a paper towel. Now ya wrap the air line with duct tape...use the good stuff (I prefer the industrial strength Duck brand)...and wrap the cracked section of air line with the duct tape. Once ya wrapped the duct tape around the air line, get some plastic zip ties and use them like hose clamps on the duct tape. Use plenty of 'em...they are cheap. Air leak fixed. I only had small leaks, so I used 1/2 width strips of tape. Larger leaks may require wider strips of tape and more zip ties.
  8. Just lay the truck over on it's side and the horizontal plane becomes a vertical one
  9. Yup. That's what I got. Was going to buy 2 new u-bolts and all the necessary hardware for 'em, but Mack only had 1. Hopefully I'll be able to re-use at least 1 of 'em. Also bought a 3/4" drive 1-5/16" deep well impact socket which fits the nuts, as well as a 1-5/16" combination wrench for the side box. Got the tire patched. Now I have all day tomorrow to git'er done.
  10. I asked a mechanic at the Mack dealer what the torque specs are for the u-bolts and he said "I don't know. I usually just use a 3/4" impact and run it as tight as it'll go" Not sure if that's right or not, but with my gun that'll put 'em somewhere between 900-1100 ft lbs.
  11. So I get home today and during my post-trip...with a combination of wet weather and sheer luck...I was FINALLY able to locate the ever-so-slow air leak in my front left drive tires. So, I figure I'll pull the tire off the truck and take it to town with me when I am out running errands tomorrow morning. I thought about rolling the inner wheel up onto a 2x4 (leak was on the outer wheel...the only advantage I've found to having budd wheels) but decided to use my jack instead. While under the truck positioning the jack, I found that both U-bolts on that side of that axle were a little loose. Had the leak not been audible...and had I not made the decision to do extra work and jack up the tire instead of doing it quick & easy with a 2x4...who knows when/where/how those loose U-bolts would have made themselves known! On the plus side, I get to buy another 3/4" drive deep well impact socket. 1-1/4" was too small....1-1/2" was too big....don't have anything in between...yet. Even tried using my non-impact 1/2" drive sockets to size the bolt figuring maybe it was metric...but all I had was 32mm (too small) and 36 mm (too big).
  12. ....eh, just stay off the sidewalks and you'll be fine
  13. Ever worked in Misery before? Ya may rethink that statement come tax time when ya gotta fill out state tax forms for BOTH states. The "credit" you get for tax paid to Missouri will be more than you would have owed in Illinois...but that money is lost. Paid to Missouri, without getting a dime back from Illinois. If you overpaid to Missouri, you'll get a refund from Missouri...but Illinois income taxes are lower. Unless, of course you LIVE in Missouri...and in that case, you can deduct a few more things which get you back into the same ballpark as the Illinois taxes...but if you live in Illinois and work in Missouri, ya pay more. ....not to mention you get to commute, fighting your way thro0ugh traffic to cross the river in St. Louis like thousands of other commuters....
  14. He's got a reflective vest....
  15. got my wing man right here...
  16. Seat belt buzzer? I've never driven a class 8 truck equipped with a seat belt buzzer.
  17. Nah...not a burger joint. Much like Tractor Supply Co, Fleet & Farm, Big R, etc...they stock a little bit of everything any man could ever need ...heck, almost wish I had a 9. They had 50 round boxes of 9mm for $11.99. For that price, I could ALMOST afford to go shooting once in a while.
  18. So I stopped off at Rural King and picked up a couple 5 gallon buckets of Rotella 15W40 on the way home so I'll have it this weekend when I change the oil. Only place to stick it for the ride home is in the dump trailer, and USUALLY it is incident-free. Not tonight. I got home, and as usual, I climb into the trailer and place the 2 buckets of oil on the side of the trailer. They USUALLY sit there well enough while I climb out of the trailer to reach them down one at a time, but for some reason the second bucket I set up on the side of the trailer kept going....falling 11 feet down to the asphalt driveway. I thought for sure the bucket would split or the lid would pop off and I'd have a mess in the driveway...but I thought wrong. Bucket held, and short of a slight warping of the lid (which caused a little oil to leak out), it wasn't really all that bad. I MIGHT have lost 1/2 gallon at most...but I'd be surprised if it were even that much. Kudos to whoever spec'd the buckets for Rotella oil....saved me $50 worth of oil
  19. My '01 leaves a brief trail of smoke when I shift...goes over the top of my dump, but when I pull that dry box, the trail of smoke went around the sides of the trailer. I expected to find a gray racing stripe down the side of the trailer by the time I got back

  21. Me & Jack used to be pretty good friends...I'd drink it straight and it went down smooth as water. It was my beverage of choice in college, 'til that fight we got into on my 20th. Bob Dylan was playing the arena and I couldn't afford to go. Most of my friends were at the show, but I managed to get one to supply me with a 5th of Jack before he headed out. When another friend got off work, we hit a house party...my 5th lasted MAYBE a half hour...then folks found out it was my birthday and the jello shots (w/ everclear) started coming. After maybe 6 or 8 of them, the room started spinning. I sat down on the couch, but that didn't help. I went outside and released a bunch of alcohol right back out the way it went in. My friend got me back to my dorm room (only time I EVER rode in a cab) and I woke up about 24 hours later inside of a duct-tape chalk outline of me passed out on the floor. I haven't touched the hard stuff since. I just stick to beer these days.
  22. Same here...fridge USED to be well stocked with Budweiser. I can't stand "lite" or "light" beer, and I prefer Americans get my beer money. Right now, I've got the remnants of a Sam Adams winter variety, a few left from a Leinenkugel's variety pack, one bottle of Shiner Bock left from that case, and one remaining bottle of Budweiser from before they sold out. I've got about a 12-pack worth of beer in my fridge right now and no two bottles are the same.
  23. ...just get a blank BOL from any truck stop and write ya out a manifest for the booze ya haul back in the trailer. Just make sure the carrier is registered ta haul booze
  24. Only Baldwin filter on my Mack is on the hydraulic return line...don't think Mack makes a hydraulic filter. Like I said, I use OEM filters whenever possible...ESPECIALLY if there is a warranty on the vehicle. My Fords even get the Motorcraft brand oil...same cost as any other reasonable option, so why not? Especially if there is a warranty. Otherwise, Ford would blame Pennzoil saying it didn't adequately lubricate the engine....Pennzoil would blame Fram saying it was inadequate filtration....and Fram would pass the buck to Ford claiming a manufacturing defect and NOBODY would want to pay for the repairs. This way, it's a Ford engine, Motorcraft (Ford) oil filter, and Motorcraft (Ford) oil. I don't care which branch of your company pays the bill, work it out amongst yourselves and fix my damned engine. I even tried the Bulldog (Mack) brand oil on one oil change. I could only get it by the gallon jug (I prefer 5 gallon buckets) and there was ONLY one place to get it. Not even all of the Mack dealers carry it. So, I ended up back at Rotella...them 5 gallon buckets are available dang near anywhere...Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply Co, Rural King, Bucheits, Orschelens, etc... When I get my shop built, I'll be able to get a 55 gallon drum (and have a place to keep it), as even the 55 gallon barrels are in stock. Brand loyalty ends when I have to make a special trip 40 miles one way to town just to get to the only place that carries the product in the brand name I'm looking for.
  25. 'bout time...
