  1. How can JUST the 12V socket be $1.20 more than the SAME 12V socket WITH the lighter in it?
  2. So we're out in the back 40 dumping a load of downed limbs onto the burn pile when the farm hand's truck dies. "Can't be out of gas...still shows 1/4 tank on the gauge!" he says. I grab a stick and tell him to check the tank. Sure enough, BONE DRY! So, he starts talking like we're going to have to hoof it back to the barn with the gas can. I notice there is a LITTLE BIT of gas sloshing around in the can...not much, but it's better than nothing. I pick up an aluminum 16 oz miller lite bottle with a screw-on cap that somebody had discarded in the bed of his truck and think "This just might work" as I tell him to pull the rubber line from the fuel pump where it hooks to the steel line to the tank...and we can stick the hose in here and maybe make it out of here. While he was doing that, I used a little WD40 to rinse the remnants of the wannabe beer out of the bottle, and had to remove the spout from the gas can to get anything to pour out. CAREFULLY, I filled the bottle...got about 14 oz of gas from the can, poked a hole in the lid for the hose to pass through, and bungeed it up where we could slip the hose into the bottle. Now a 1970-something Ford F250 won't go far on 14 oz of gas...but it got us back to the barn so we didn't have to walk. Use whatcha got to get done what needs gettin done.
  3. I heard the shootout was one-sided...the ranchers weren't even armed in the vehicle. Hope that cop is brought up on charges if that is true...or does rioting, looting, and cities being burned have to occur? Funny how the "justice system" works in this country...
  4. Not everywhere that saw "record" snowfall gets their new record in the books...bet these guys feel kinda dumb... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/snow-totals-washington-dc-measuring-36493883
  5. Haha! This one is pretty good, too... ...and in other news: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/former-u.s.-attorney-clinton-could-face-criminal-indictment/article/2579620
  6. ...yeah, but that ain't NEAR as much fun as filling 'em with lead.
  7. https://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/campus-sexual-assault/ http://www.examiner.com/article/report-hillary-ruthless-tamping-down-of-bill-s-bimbo-eruptions Actions speak louder than words.
  8. Our levee held...couple others broke and flooded some farmland, which made the river crest lower than expected (still a new record, though) and a few days quicker.
  9. Hell, I got 2 of 'em...not sure if there's any more. Wife's picking up more traps on her way out the door after work. These things are friggin' HUGE!!!
  10. Damn mice been getting fat in the grain bins, which the farmers all emptied out because of the potential flooding a couple weeks back.
  11. The other got its neck broke.
  12. It isn't how it is hooked up, but rather the controller itself. The air operated switch in my cab, I engage the pump with the switch still in the "hold" position, then move the switch to "raise" to put pressure in the line. I can go back to "hold" if I need to pause for a moment and back to "raise" as often or as many times as I need to, but as soon as I hit "lower", the PTO disengages from the pump so the pump isn't damaged when the fluid is flowing back to the tank. Figured that was pretty standard.
  13. Shame, too...many of today's problems are caused by what mommas ain't saying these days!
  14. Check the air solenoid on the pump. Sometimes after they've sat for a while, they don't want to move. If it is seized up, it doesn't matter where the cab switch is, the pump thinks it is supposed to "hold"...meaning no pressure in the line. Also, the controller should turn the PTO off when you move it to the "lower" position to prevent pump damage.
  15. What would YOU do with it? Comes out to around $50 Million/year for 30 years...or a cash payout of $930 Million. That is an insane amount of money to get all at once...wonder how long it'll take the winner to blow it all and file for bankruptcy? Me? 'bout 1000 acres in Texas to spend time on during the winter, 1000 acres in Montana for the summer months...and have a pair of trucks custom built to my specifications around a B75 cab...one for each location...because I'd still want to work. I'd just be driving trucks because I WANT to drive, not because I have bills to pay. The rest of the money would get invested...live more than comfortably on the interest a couple hundred million would generate. Sure would be nice...but I ain't holding my breath.

  17. The fact that you are ALLOWED to have a gun makes you safer, whether you actually have one or not. It is by no coincidence that the Aurora, CO movie theater shooter drove past half a dozen other theaters also showing that same movie on his way to shoot up the "gun free" one. "Gun free" zones are soft targets, which is WHY mass shootings almost always occur inside their boundaries where the shooter is confident that he will be unstoppable for the 5-10 minutes (or longer) it will take for the police to arrive. They don't select a gun show, NRA convention, or anywhere else people are likely to be armed and able to defend themselves. Instead, they look for that "No Guns" sign on the entrance to the mall or pick a school known to be a "gun free" zone. You are free to choose not to carry, but you are made safer because others have chosen to carry. With concealed carry, a person with evil intentions does not know who is or is not armed, which is why violent crime drops when ccw laws are enacted. When your victim might shoot you dead, it makes you think a little harder about whether or not it's worth attacking them. When you can be confident your victim is defenseless, you're free to do as you please. I am all for the choice. The government has no power to tell people they MUST carry, just as they shouldn't have the power to say NOBODY can carry. It is a choice, as it should be in a free society.
  18. And where would we be if the only militias in 1775 were sanctioned by the government (i.e. loyal to the crown)? The Militia in this country was never intended to be federally sanctioned, as it was a last line of defense against federal overreach in order to protect the sovereignty of the state's, as well as being the first line of defense against foreign invasions as the local militia could be called up on a moment's notice whereas federal troops need to be deployed from wherever it is they are stationed and they might be days or weeks away from arriving where they are needed. Granted in today's world, with the surveillance technology we have, an invading army wouldn't likely reach our shores unnoticed. However, the enemies we face today are not coming with a fleet of war ships carrying hundreds of thousands on infantry soldiers, making the "unorganized" militia once again relevant, as they are the ones who are likely to be at the scene needing to act while the police and other government agents are "on their way". I can respect a lot of differing opinions...not so much, though, when they are simply wrong and run contrary to historical facts. For as well-read as you usually come across, it simply amazes me how far off you are on this.
  19. According to the Illinois State Constitution, I am a member of the Illinois State Militia. No, I am not a member of the National Guard. In other words, what YOU "recognize" as the Militia doesn't matter and is flat out incorrect and uninformed.
  20. I'd like to know what ever happened to the whole "...nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb..." clause in the 5th Amendment. Seems to me, if they were tried and convicted, sentenced, SERVED THEIR TIME and were released, to lock them up AGAIN for the same offense violates the Constitution. They served their time. The government should leave them the hell alone.
  21. No, the system works when all play by the rules. The problem is, the left doesn't play by the rules. You need an ID to open a bank account, cash a check, buy cigarettes or alcohol, board a plane, drive a car, and hundreds of other daily activities...but to vote? Nah...no need to verify that you are who you say you are or live in the precinct in which you're trying to vote. To ask for ID from potential voters is RACIST! Voter fraud doesn't exist, even where it is obvious to even a casual observer we're told what we saw isn't really what we saw. New Black Panthers standing guard outside of polling places armed and intimidating anyone who might not vote for Obama? NO PROBLEM! Hundreds of precincts in a swing state turn up 99-100% for Obama? NOTHING TO SEE HERE! IRS systematically prohibiting conservative groups from being recognized as tax exempt organizations? NO BIG DEAL! Get rid of the fraud and hand out harsh penalties to those who abuse their power and the system would work.
  22. Whatever happened to the whole "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed," that I seem to remember reading somewhere? Something about self-evident truths and unalienable rights, too. Yet, we have a president who forces unpopular mandates upon the people, bureaucracies which act on the demands of a few powerful ($$$) groups completely ignoring the wants/needs/desires of the vast majority, a Supreme Court that has essentially wiped the 10th Amendment from the Constitution, and a Congress without the balls to stand up for their own co-equalness of their branch in government. Do we even HAVE a Constitution anymore? Government needs to be reigned in, but that isn't going to happen at the ballot box. Do you honestly believe Obama LEGITIMATELY received +99% of the vote in 100 different precincts in Ohio? Don't even TRY to tell me there was no funny business going on there. This president is (and always has been) illegitimate. He has governed without and in many cases AGAINST the "consent of the governed". Whoever comes into office next has quite the mess to clean up. The good news is that anything that has been implemented with Obama's pen can be eliminated with the next guy's pen. The GOP has shown they CAN put an Obamacare repeal bill on the president's desk, so the next president can sign it. Obama's term WILL be undone, and this once great nation WILL recover and be great once again.
  23. http://www.semissourian.com/gallery/26140 Some pics the local newspaper took yesterday flying over the area. The levee that broke yesterday apparently was a pretty darned good levee to have break, because they said no houses flooded that weren't already under water. They are saying we'll be back under "major flood stage" some time on Wednesday, and the only levee they are still concerned about is a sinkhole in the one on the north side of the Big Muddy River protecting Grand Tower. The south levee on that river is the one protecting our house...so we should be in the clear. Probably be home tonight and start moving our stuff back later in the week around my work schedule. So much to be thankful for as the new year begins...back to work, still got a house...2016 is off to a "fun" start for sure.
  24. Well, a floodwall or flood gate or levee of some sort broke down in Olive Branch this morning, which explains the drop in levels and the new forecast. That's about 20-25 miles or so south of me and HOPEFULLY there are some other levees and such between there and my house. Pretty sure there are. If that's the case, we're pretty much out of danger...and if not, we're under water. I'm almost positive we're OK though.
  25. This one looks even better...still not sure what to make of it. Farmhand where we're staying said I55 up north had flooded again and had to be pumped out. We weren't supposed to crest until tomorrow. Sure hope the worst is over...
