  1. Another genius... http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/02/man-accused-killing-wife-posting-facebook-photo-corpse-charged-with-1st-degree/
  2. Dumbass kids. 1 posts pics of pellet guns & says he's ready for school. Cops arrest him. I can understand why in this day & age the cops would want to question him...could be viewed as a threat. The other kid posted a generic pic of a gun he found online and said he loves revolvers. He was also picked up by police...that one makes no sense to me...other than the fact that he goes to the same school as the first kid. Seriously, though, you'd think people would've figured out by now that the cops find (or are tipped off to) "evidence of wrongdoing" that gets posted on the internet and then they assume the worst and react the only way they know how...which usually involves a complimentary fitting with chrome bracelets. Sometimes it seems as though they use the same level of common sense during their "investigation" as the "perpetrator" used in posting the incriminating picture or video online...which if you think about it is actually quite fitting. Sucks for the taxpayers who end up paying the bill for all of the stupidity... http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/07/conn-boys-instagram-gun-photos-draw-police/
  3. Sounds like the kind of guy EVERYONE just LOVES to be associated with...the kind that half-asses things all of the time and gives the company SUCH a stellar reputation with customers & the DOT, and represents the industry in the eye the general public. Nobody ever seems to remember the professional drivers who do their job the right way...only the f-ups who cause major clusters everywhere they go...
  4. My AC works GREAT...in December. Winter is about the ONLY time you'll get cold air blowing out of my vents...but only 'til the engine gets up to temp. Then it's nice & toasty warm. The air conditioner in my CH wasn't working when I bought it. Knocked 40 pounds off my empty weight and cleared a lot of under-hood clutter when I removed everything AC related from under the hood. Hell, I always drove with the windows down anyway...never was one to use the AC even if it worked.
  5. This was a blockage in the supply line to the trailer. Once I figured that out, it was just a matter of enclosing the space between the back of the cab & the front of the trailer with tarps & pieces of plywood and setting the heater up on the catwalk blowing hot air on the lines. Had the line disconnected from the valve on the fire wall and the glad hand hooked to the air compressor in the garage. Grabbed some breakfast while I listened for the compressor to kick on signifying a drop in pressure due to the blockage being blown out. First time my truck has ever been out of commission due to the weather...but it worked out for the better. She worked an 18 hour shift @ time and a half filling in for people who called in. She cleared more money than I would have if I would have worked...and if I hadn't been off to drive her to work, she would've been another call-in. I still got the load...just pushed it off 'til today, so I'm really not out anything either.
  6. If those stainless bumpers are anything like the stainless on my 2001 sfa CH613, it'd be the end of his bumper-shopping days. 3 deer (none of which were hit doing less than 55 mph) and a concrete post (at night turning around & got a little too close on a pull-up) and you can't hardly tell...this thing is pretty tough, and even when it DOES get bent, it straightens out pretty clean.
  7. Well, right after I posted that, I made the executive decision that more heat than I had readily available would be needed to thaw it out...so I called dispatch to have today's load pushed off 'til tomorrow. Then I decided since I had to run into town anyway, I'd drive the fiance to work (Texas girl + 2wd pickup truck...not a good combination when we have snow on top of sleet on top of ice). She would've had to call in (like over 75% of her co-workers) because even though we just put new tires on her truck yesterday, she wouldn't have made it to the end of the driveway. Turns out for the better, since she's filling in & working an 18 hour shift @ time and a half...gonna make more today than I would have if I had worked. Anyway, after I dropped her off I went to check on the horses which had been stalled up last night because of the weather. Fed them, watered them, cleaned out the stalls...fun stuff. Had a matrix moment when one of her horses decided it wasn't quite ready to go back into the stall. It spun around and when I saw her head duck and the weight transfer to her front legs, I started leaning back to get my head out of the way of what was coming next. That'll get the blood flowing for sure...could hear the hoof cutting through the air as it came right at my face. Anyway, she missed so no harm no foul. Split a bale of hay amongst the 3 horses that are out there and went to the farm supply store just up the road. Picked up a portable forced air heater that will run on kerosene, diesel, fuel oil, or jet fuel...75,000 BTU's, so it SHOULD work to thaw things out a bit. Already had the north and west facing sides tarped off (passenger side & rear of cab) to block the wind and keep what little heat the engine was putting off contained...it just wasn't warm enough. Anyway, had dinner with her before coming home, packing down the driveway, and shoveling a path for her to get to her truck door. She ought to be OK by the time she has to go to work tomorrow...roads ought to be fairly clean by then too. Hell, that's the first time in 15 years I've shoveled snow. Guess that means she needs a bigger truck...
  8. Truck had been throwing an 8-4 code for a few weeks and finally went into limp mode Wednesday. Since I was off yesterday, I picked up a new unit pump while I was in town, and waited 'til the rain had turned to sleet before getting to work (easier to stay warm & dry when the precipitation bounces off you instead of soaking through your jacket). Anyway, to get it fired back up again last night I had the block heater plugged in as well as a battery charger for a few hours. Fired up, ran great, shut it down before too long, leaving everything plugged in. Got up this morning and the truck fired right up. Lights & tires are all good. Building air just fine. Push in the red valve to supply the trailer and nothing happened. Disconnected the line from the front of the trailer and the problem is definitely in the tractor. Hooked the trailer up to the compressor in the garage and the brakes all release and the suspension aired up...the truck just has a valve froze up or ice in a line. Oh what I wouldn't give for a HEATED SHOP that I could pull into & thaw it out. Instead, I've got it high-idling with the hood closed, and the back and upwind side of the cab are wrapped in tarps to try to warm things up a bit. Meanwhile, the line is disconnected and the red valve is pushed in. I'm sitting here warming up inside (been out there messing with it for 3 hours now) waiting to hear the line blow clear. I hope it happens soon, because I was supposed to be loading an hour away 30 minutes ago...
  9. That is pretty sad...somebody "gains unauthorized access" (a.k.a. breaks in) and takes up residence (as opposed to just stealing your shit) and now...because they took up residence, they won't be arrested, but rather they get to remain on the property (upon which they are trespassing) for 1-2 YEARS while the "landlord" (a.k.a. legal owner of said property as well as the person who the "squatter" effectively evicted from the home) has to pay 1000's of $$$ in legal fees, court costs, etc. JUST to be "allowed" back into THEIR OWN HOME?!?!? I knew NYC was screwy, but that takes the cake right there. For around $3 worth of gun powder & lead, you can dispatch the home invader. I'm sure it'd be a lot different in NYC, but around here it wouldn't be too difficult to be acquitted by a jury for doing just that IF the prosecutor even bothered bringing charges (which he probably wouldn't knowing full well there ain't a jury he could build in this county that would convict a home owner for shooting a home invader inside the home owner's home.)
  10. Phony legal papers vs. a real .45...dead men tell no tales. One of the advantages of small town life is that even if they were in the house when I got home and they called the law as I was breaking into my own house, the sheriff and most of his deputies all know who I am...so it wouldn't be me getting hauled off in cuffs. The intruder would either leave in cuffs (if they called the cops) or in a body bag (if they didn't).
  11. ...only until such time as I arrived home to confront the intruder with deadly force. If he was there when I got home, he'd leave in a body bag. If not, he best not return. What kind of idiocy is that, that if you BREAK INTO somebody's house who is away on vacation, that you can just change the locks and claim ownership? Screw that. My home will be defended and I don't really care WHAT fraudulent documents you have filed at the courthouse, your phony papers won't stop my hot (and VERY real) lead. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/01/man-lays-claim-to-home-family-out-town-visiting-dying-relative/
  12. You have the right to the best medical care you can afford to pay for. If necessary, payment options are available. You have the right to buy the biggest house, fanciest car, biggest TV, etc. that you can afford to pay for. Depending upon how reliable you have been paying for things in the past, payment options may or may not be available for these things. You have the right to eat whatever you can afford to pay for. If that turns out to be steak & lobster every night, good for you! If, however, you can only afford rice & beans and an occasional ramen soup thrown into the mix, so be it. If you want to eat better, find other places in the budget to make cuts or find ways to increase your budget by taking on another job, developing job skills or educating yourself to become qualified for a better paying job, or even take on additional responsibilities at your current job so that your time is worth more to your employer. Life is full of choices...and people need to take responsibility for the choices they make. Don't cry to me about being hungry when you've got a 60" TV, 1,000,000 channel package satellite TV, X-box, Wii, playstation, and are driving around in a 2014 Escalade. If you've got all that crap and you can't afford to eat, your priorities are out of whack and your hunger is not of my concern. I have no problem helping people who truly are in need of a helping hand...but if you've already got nicer shit than I do, don't bother me with your difficulties in dealing with the repercussions of the decisions you have made.
  13. At least I'm not alone...I'll be 35 in a couple months.
  14. You're a better man than I. If somebody were to spit upon me, it'd take far more than the threat of court martial & a dishonorable discharge to keep me from ripping that ignorant MFer's head from his shoulders. Hell, if I'd been alive then and seen it happen to a returning member of the armed forces, I'd still probably be in my reserved room @ the gray bar motel. This is why I've never ridden with the Patriot Guard, and why my brother went to the middle east knowing that if anything had happened to him and that group of hypocrites from Kansas had shown up, they'd have a meeting w/ St. Pete before the funeral would start. I don't take kindly to people disrespecting those who have put their lives on the line defending freedom...especially when they have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Hell, you'd be better off smacking your old lady in front of me (which would STILL get you an ass-whooping) than disrespecting a fallen soldier at a funeral I happened to be attending.
  15. Hell, I was broke before I bought my truck. Not much has changed except the cash flow. More money passes through my hands than I ever thought possible...I just wish I could hang onto some of it for a while. Seems every time I get back on track to get caught up, something else comes up...and it just never seems to end. Oh well...beats being broke working behind a desk in a windowless cubicle.
  16. It sure is a shame what this world has come to. Between the materialistic attitudes, the butt-ugly cars that ALL seem to look alike, the immoral & often times criminal behavior of our elected representatives in the peoples' government as they regularly and habitually exercise powers beyond those granted to them under the Constitution...sometimes I feel as though I was born 50-60 years too late. My attitudes & beliefs fall more in line with my grandparents' generation than my own...and don't even get me started on my parents generation (the baby-boomers)...the actions of THEIR generation is what has led us to where we are today.
  17. My fiance works @ Walmart. Said when she got off work @ 5 yesterday people were already packing the aisles lining up. She's SOOOO happy she was recently promoted...spent 5+ years as a cashier working her way up to customer service manager. Now she's support manager back in automotive and it is a different type of crazy back there, but at least (for the most part) the people aren't as loco. I'm happy, too, because her hours are better (in my opinion at least...she'd disagree...) Oh well. Hope everybody stuffed their guts...I'll get my turkey on Saturday (family tradition). For what it's worth, the few sit-down-and-eat restaurants that were open made bank. Stopped in @ Cracker Barrel to see about wait times for her lunch break and they were at an hour and a half 20 minutes before her break started...so we hit McD's instead. Working people neeed to eat, too...
  18. How PATHETIC does your life have to be before you spend Thanksgiving Day sitting around in the cold waiting for Target to open? GO HOME!!! No wonder wages are so damn low...people just don't seem to place any value on their TIME anymore! I know MY time is worth more than the few bucks they are expecting to "save" by being 1st in line when the doors open tomorrow morning. Unless Mack is gonna sell a new truck for $2k to the first 2 or 3 people through the doors, you ain't gonna find me camped out in front of a store on Thanksgiving...
  19. If "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"1...and if we have a "government of the people by the people for the people"2...how do the Democrats and this administration expect to implement and enforce a law which only 31% (and falling) of the people approve of3? 1 Declaration of Independence 2 Gettysburg Address 3CBS News Poll
  20. It'll be 1860 all over again if that happens. Funny thing about that, though, is that it won't be so much "brother against brother"...more like gun-totin' rednecks against defenseless anti-gun city-dwellers. I doubt it'd last very long. Even our military swears an oath to "uphold & defend the Constitution"...NOT to blindly follow the orders of a wannabe dictator.
  21. I've backed up my t/t in the low split of the high range @ 1/2 throttle...had about a mile to go (on pavement...wreck had the road blocked & the cops had cleared the road behind me) & I didn't want to spend all day doing it. Probably wasn't the best thing for the clutch getting it going, but I wasn't about to try range shifting in reverse 'cuz the sticker says that's bad.
  22. If you went with the MP8 for power, why settle for 445hp? 505M will give you more power across a wider range of RPM's.
  23. 4.35 in a vocational truck. If you were OTR w/ the occasional "off highway" excursion, the 3.94 would be fine...but for a work truck, you want low gears (high numbers) on the rears.
  24. At least Bush had respect for the office and believed in the principals behind the founding of this great nation. Obama has stated from the beginning his desire to "fundamentally transform" the country, and never misses an opportunity to bring disgrace and embarrassment upon the office and the nation he allegedly represents. If Obama had even 1/1000th of the integrity and class displayed by his predecessor, foreign leaders might just show him a little respect. As it is, though, he is viewed by the world as a joke...an empty suit undeserving of having any influence in foreign relations. This is WHY his administration gets walked all over on the world stage. He has shown more willingness to "compromise" with tyrants, terrorists, and dictators than he has been with his "fellow Americans" of the Republican persuasion. This in and of itself is unacceptable, but becomes more eggregious when these foreign compromises result in his (or his subordinate's) signature on an international treaty which directly conflicts with our God-given rights specifically enumerated and protected under the Constitution. But hey, at least Bush is gone, right? As bad as he might have been on some issues, I'd take 100 years under GWB over even 1 under this community organizer-in-chief.
  25. ...sure paid a hefty price whether he saw 'em or not, though: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/11/25/new-york-driver-with-untied-bikini-top-cleared-in-fatal-crash/
