  1. Sounds to me like the driver steering wheel holder had no clue what was going on. You can hear him say "We made it about a mile down the road and it won't turn off, it's running wide open blowing smoke..."
  2. It's always fun hooking to a pre-loaded trailer which was loaded by a company driver in a light-weight bare-bones fleet-spec'd company day cab. Most of them can scale 27+ tons. I'm lucky to get 25.5 tons legally. Ain't no scales 'tween here & there, though, and even if there were I can get around 'em so I just run it and make the big bucks on that run.
  3. Nah...didn't buy it. Took the pic at Walmart (and I was sadly disappointed with their selection). I ended up with 3 different 6-packs...Coors Batch 19, Third Shift Amber Lager, and Henry Weinhard's Northwest-Style Lager. Couldn't find Shiner & the only Sam Adams they had was the summer variety pack with a bunch of fruity varieties.... ....but yeah, I stepped up to better beer when Budweiser was bought out by the foreigners...try to buy my beer from American-owned breweries. I know Coors is owned by the same group as Miller (also foreign owned) but I was intrigued by the Batch 19. Supposed to be a pre-prohibition era Coors recipe, and I've always liked older stuff...figured I'd give it a try. ...at least they are all in 12 oz bottles.
  4. Well I've noticed certain items are getting smaller at the grocery store....for example a 1/2 gallon carton of OJ is now only 59 ounces instead of 64, etc....but I NEVER thought I'd see the day when THIS would happen... I sure hope this doesn't catch on...I mean what kind of world are we living in when a 12 ounce bottle of beer doesn't even have 12 full ounces of beer in it?
  5. The older of my 2 little brothers used to wear some pretty thick glasses...anyway, in drivers ed they do all the tests and whatnot right there at the school. So he's standing in line listening to everybody ahead of him do the eye test...and they are all saying the exact same thing. So, he memorized what he heard everybody else saying and when it was his turn he took off his glasses, put his face up to the little eye chart machine doohicky, closed his eyes, and repeated what everybody else had been saying. Needless to say, he didn't have any restrictions on his license until he turned 21 and had to go to the actual DMV to renew.
  6. I used to drive for BTC out of Memphis....they put me in a freightshaker with a 435 Mercedes engine, 10 speed transmission, and 3.55 rears. Running empty across I68 (to avoid the tolls on 70) there were a few hills that I'd damn near be in the low range before I got to the top of them. Needless to say, when I arrived at my next gig and they put me in another freightshaker with a 435 Mercedes and a 10 speed, I was disappointed....but with the 3.90 rears, it pulled a lot better. I still wouldn't own one, though....I went to BTC because I THOUGHT they had Mack trucks. Even the logo on their doors had a Mack truck....but I just missed the boat. Only Macks they had when I was there were L/P trucks. I've noticed they started buying Macks again, though. Kinda sad, really...most of the companies I've worked for have run Mack trucks at one point or another....usually they stop right before I'm hired on, or are phasing them out of their fleet as I start and I never get to drive them. I've only worked for 2 companies where I actually got to drive a Mack. I finally decided if I wanted to have any say in what I drove, I'd have to buy my own truck....so I did. But I digress.... The only time I ever get passed by a governed truck is when the speed limit is lower than their governed speed. I run within 2-3 mph of the speed limit, whatever that speed limit might be....so it doesn't matter if I'm in a 45 mph construction zone or a 20 mph school zone, that 62 mph truck with the e-logs is going to blow my doors off at 62 mph....but out there on the 70 mph interstate? I'll return the favor.
  7. Never mix business with pleasure. That advise applies to doctors, too. When you go to see your family doctor, you want to be able to openly discuss anything and everything that might be going on in your life as it affects your health....WITHOUT having to worry about how that simple conversation or innocent comment might affect your ability to earn a living. When it comes time to get your DOT physical, go to a different doctor...one who specializes in DOT physicals, and knows how to fill out the forms properly. As far as he's concerned, you've never felt better. No health problems. No issues to be discussed. If it is on the form, answer the question...but don't volunteer the information about what else might be bothering you....save those conversations for your personal doctor.
  8. Other than the little steps under the doors....and the sun visor....and the clearance lights...and the tiny little street tires....and the bug deflector...and red interior...and the diesel under the hood....and the lack of any pinstriping or other decals..... ....it looks just like my '96. The mirrors are a little different, too...
  9. I don't use Gorilla tape...too expensive. I've had pretty good luck with the Industrial Grade Duck® Brand they sell at Walmart. Holds decent enough without breaking the bank...'bout half of what a similarly sized roll of the Gorilla tape went for if I'm remembering right from the last time I priced it....
  10. It's a dump trailer. It's OK if it is a little dirty....just going to get dirty again Monday morning anyway. ....and if you're going to acid wash it again, don't waste your time polishing it now.
  11. Not really....ants got the strawberries, and I mowed over the raspberries (ants would get those, too) when they started getting out of control. The bunnies killed the blueberries. The birds get the grapes. Peaches & plums just haven't produced anything. Only thing I've ever really had was apples.... Would have been nice to have a good variety of free & healthy snacks right out there in the back yard....but it just didn't work out that way.
  12. You must use that cheap duct tape....or didn't use enough of it. I've never had a duct-tape repair blow out on me...
  13. Them bunnies pissed me off a few years back...planted some blueberry bushes in the back yard and the damn bunnies kept biting off the damn twigs so they wouldn't grow. Never did get any berries. Quit trying to take care of the strawberries, too, because the ants usually beat me to 'em. Same with the peach tree...hasn't really produced yet, but the 2 or 3 peaches it had last year the ants got. My apple trees had a bumper crop last year, though....ate enough apples to keep the doctor away for a few years....and STILL had 3./4 of them rot out there on the trees. I'm thinking I need to get another plum tree, though, because the 1 I have that I dug up from my grandma's house flowered real good last year but didn't produce. Ended up mowing over the raspberry bushes, too....they were spreading and taking over the back yard. The birds usually get my grapes, too....dropped seeds in the bushes by the house so now I've got grape vines choking out them damn bushes. All because I wanted some cheap, healthy summertime snacks available in the back yard when I was unable to get to town to buy any food for the house.....more trouble than its worth sometimes.
  14. Use whatcha got to get done what needs gett'n done.
  15. One of these things ain't like the others.....
  16. No squirrels in my little corner of the world...nothing for 'em to eat. These damn sweetgum trees have no nutritional value for 'em...they tend to prefer oaks & trees with a little more substance to their nuts & seeds. When he sees 'em from the jump seat, they definitely get his attention, though, so no doubt he'd try & get 'em if they did try invading his turf. ...and it's only nature doing its thing. I didn't make the rules, I just enjoy watching the game.
  17. eh, zip ties are cheaper & more versatile....easier to keep them handy for the roadside rednecking and let the store keep the inventory of parts on hand for when I get tired of looking at the zip ties.
  18. ...or so I thought. Security footage revealed the truth:
  19. What's wrong with doing that? As long as the gun isn't loaded, it isn't "attempted" anything. After all, if you were going to "attempt" to kill him, you would have loaded the gun. I'd put child molesters and crooked cops right there with the thieves...too close to call as to which is actually the worst of 'em, though.
  20. That's still the old clamp. I had retightened it, but it was just hanging by a thread.
  21. So I was driving the other day...stopped & fueled up...and when I left, I crossed the river and started climbing the hill into town. The truck started making a noise, similar to a balloon when you stretch the opening and slowly (and noisily) release the air. I pulled off the road and popped the hood to check my turbo hoses, and didn't see any holes or other problems with them...so I figured I'd press on and see if it continued. Sure enough, it was a persistent little noise. It wouldn't start until I was at 5 psi of boost, and would continue up to 20 psi before it would stop. The truck was running fine, though, and still pulled like it should, so I went on up the road a few miles to where I was going to dump off. Once I was empty, I pulled up out of the way and popped the hood again for a better look. I found a broken clamp on a turbo hose going into the charge air cooler....wasn't COMPLETELY broke, but wasn't holding tightly like it should. I guess it took 5 psi before the air would start leaking, and by 20 psi it was leaking out at a fast enough rate it wouldn't make any noise. I started to grab the duct tape to wrap it up...but then remembered the heavy duty zip ties (125 pound break strength) I had behind the seat. A couple of them cinched good and tight got the job done. No more noise when the turbo winds up.
  22. If it were baseball, they'd be batting .500...and that's pretty good.
  23. Looks like he got just what he was asking for. Perhaps he should have been more specific? I tend to take things literally, too. When in doubt, do exactly as you are told...nothing more, nothing less.
  24. That's gotta be the bestlooking smart car I've ever seen pictures of.....
  25. Adjusting for inflation?
