  1. Perhaps he should look at Form 4473....the form which must be completed prior to purchasing any firearm from any licensed dealer. Question 11e: Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Question 11f: Have you ever been adjudicated mentally defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution? You are ALREADY prohibited from buying/possessing a firearm if you are mentally unstable or are on drugs. Passing another law prohibiting something that is ALREADY illegal won't do a damn thing.
  2. I can't tell from the pic...but I'd almost be willing to bet one or more of 3 conditions exist: 1) Driver was on e-logs. 2) Truck is governed at or below 65 mph. 3) Company pays a low per-mile rate. The more of the 3 that exist, seems like the greater the likelihood of a driver racing through a work zone or blasting through town. E-logs means the driver can't "hide" the time he spends stuck in traffic...which he feels he needs to do because he's got to get 4000 miles per week if he wants a decent paycheck because the pay rate sucks....but that is tough to do when the truck won't go faster than 63 mph, so he just floors the throttle and holds it there for 11 hours at a time no matter what the speed limit, traffic, or weather conditions happen to be.
  3. If that's the case, I won't have to worry about their truck ban because I'll already be a criminal.
  4. I ain't skeerd of a little wet stuff....you oughtta see the mud hole I turn around in every day out behind the house! I drive a ....Gold dog on the hood...it'll go anywhere.
  5. ...did you remember to bring the marshmallows?
  6. Yup...grass was good & green down in Tennessee.
  7. Nah...that's the cumulative number of how many people have clicked the "Like This" button on your postings.
  8. Hauled some ag lime out to a pasture....probably a good thing they sent me....them company petercars would've got stuck before the trailer even made it off the road. I never even locked in the power divider on my
  9. Dang...clicked the wrong button. Meant to preview...wasn't quite ready to post. Anyway, here's the pics that I WAS going to attach to that first post.
  10. Plenty of cow ****...but no bulls. I LOVE days like today...wish EVERY load delivered out in the middle of a pasture somewhere off the beaten path.
  11. Oh goody. Anti-gunner Joe Biden is going to head up the commission looking into ways to prevent another mass shooting. Others on the panel are likely to include people from the brady bunch and every other anti-freedom organization in the country. If the NRA, GOA, or any other pro-2nd Amendment group has a seat, it'll just be a token seat so the left can claim "bipartisanship", but their views won't be reflected even the least bit in the report. When criminals become respectful of the law and begin to obey it, then and ONLY then will the left's version of gun control have any effect on criminal activity. As long as criminals are intent upon disobeying the law, disarming their victims will only encourage their unlawful behavior. Interesting point...according to Wikipedia (and there list of notable US school attacks), 18 incidents made their list in years prior to 1990. The "Gun Free School Zone Act" passed in 1990. There have been 107 notable US school attacks since then....again, according to the list of notable attacks on Wikipedia. So what changed? I'd say the criminals realized that the Gun Free School Zone Act rendered their potential victims defenseless....gave them the opportunity to create as much havoc as they desired, and NOBODY would have the ability to stop them....until the police show up....and in many cases, that's when the killer decides to end things on his own terms by offing himself. So how exactly is creating a safe work environment for criminals going to be beneficial to anyone who is a law-abiding citizen?
  12. My lawn mower is a 1983 Craftsman. If I bought a new one, I'd have to disable all of the safety bullcrap....if I get stuck, I want to be able to get off and push WHILE THE WHEELS ARE SPINNING so that it's helping pull itself out. I had a nut fall off the tie rod end, and the only way I got it back to the garage was to put it in low & walk next to it....kicking the tire to straighten it out every time it tried turning on its own. In other news, though, I grew up with a guy who went to school to be a meteorologist. After graduation, he wasn't having much luck finding work so he went back to school....law school. Now he's a lawyer. It is his job to look at a product, think of every which way some dumbass could possibly cause injury to himself, and then write the warning that you see on those stupid stickers explaining the potential hazard. I'm sure he's glad there are plenty of idiots in the world....keeps him busy & pays his bills.
  13. Only time my clutch pedal is pushed to the floor is when I'm stopped. I usually try to grab whatever gear I'm going to start off in as I'm coming up to the stop, and step on the clutch just as the rpm's are being pulled down below idle and try to time it so that the clutch pedal hits the floor as the truck comes to a complete stop. Then when it's time to go, I ease the clutch out and my foot won't touch that pedal again until the next time I'm coming to a stop.
  14. Hmmm...I've got a.....hang on.....got to go find the vaccuum....... ...Eureka. Probably got it at Wal-mart and it was most likely the cheapest one they had at the time. It's almost 11 years old and the only thing I've had to do was replace the bags when they fill up. Printers are like that too, though....pisses me off every time I have to buy ink and I see that I could buy a new (and better) printer for less than it costs for JUST the ink cartridges...
  15. Well, I got'er did. The clutch adjustment is pretty easy...getting that stupid clutch brake on, on the other hand, was a completely different story. Won't be buying this style again...even after I got it clipped on there, it didn't want to press the pin into place properly...but I eventually got it. Funny thing was, though, when I got it to where I only had 1/2" between the clutch brake and the release bearing housing so that it would press the pin into place, there was over 4" of free travel in the clutch pedal. It still worked...but I wouldn't be happy with that. So, I backed off the adjustment again so I only had 2" of free travel. Put the friction zone of the clutch right where I wanted it, the clutch brake works, and I'm happy. Time to wind down a bit, get my paperwork done, get a shower, and HOPEFULLY get to bed sometime before my alarm starts going off.... ....been asking myself why I bought a truck an awful lot this past week or two. Hopefully I'll get everything fixed up before too long and it'll give me another good stretch of time without any problems. Oh well....'nother project done.
  16. ...and up until this truck, I've never had a problem with clutch brakes. Even when I drove the same truck for a year or two every day, never had a problem with them wearing out and certainly never had one break or fall apart on me...but on this truck, this is the 4th one I'm putting on.
  17. This stupid sunovabitch just ain't going on. I can get it wrapped around the input shaft, but it won't click shut so that I can press the pin into place. I've tried running an old dog collar up over the top to pull down while I push up on the bottom half....I've tried using a screw driver to pry the two sides apart while I try to pinch it together....I've tried reaching in there with channel locks to squeeze the damn thing together....nothing seems to be working. I can pull the clutch brake out and it opens and closes just fine....but once I get it up in there, it just won't close. The tangs are in the grooves...it won't spin on the shaft...and there's a little play in it, but that's because it isn't clamped all of the way shut. The brakes I usually use have a pair of rods you insert into some holes to assist with closing the damn thing...provide some leverage to get it locked into place....but not this one. I'm thinking it's worse than the one time I tried using the bolt-together type. It isn't SUPPOSED to be difficult....can usually put one on in less than 5 minutes....but this was the only style they had there at NAPA. Anyway, it's starting to piss me off....almost to the point where I'm tempted to run tomorrow without it and try to find the style I prefer to use along the way....but money is tight right now and I've already bought this one, so I'd like to be able to use the damn thing.
  18. ...well, between this and this...I think I'll get it figured out. I printed out pages 22-25 of the second link about setting up the clutch...and it seems as though that would get me adjusted up proper.
  19. I won't set foot inside of Best Buy...not after what they did to my laptop. I don't care if they are giving stuff away, you won't catch me anywhere near the place. I'll gladly pay a few bucks more at one of their competitors if I have to, and if Best Buy is the only store around that has something, I can do without it.
  20. You ain't lyin' there....in the last week, I've had the power divider rebuilt, a leak fixed between the rear carrier and the banjo housing (some holes were stripped), 8 new drive tires & drive brakes....which brought to my attention a leaking wheel seal & 2 bad s-cam bushings, not to mention 4 cracked rims......rotated the steers, which caused the discovery of a SERIOUSLY out-of-round tire....and the worn tie rod ends which helped mask the vibration...so new tie rod ends & steer tires and a 3-axle alignment (which only the toe was out of spec...which was to be expected after getting the new tie rod ends)....then today, the clutch brake quit working and I'm pretty sure the clutch is needing adjustment. ...but as for the fridge, I've had one crap out on me before, too....but it was ENTIRELY my fault. I guess I didn't close the door all of the way, so it was running all day while I was at work trying to stay cool & probably froze stuff & locked it up. By the time I got home, the freezer was keeping refrigerator temps and the fridge was more like a cooler....neither really cold enough to keep food from spoiling. I did some quick online checking with some stores we have locally (sears, lowes, etc.) and found one that would work for $400....so it wasn't TOO bad. Luckily since I can't cook, generally all that is in the fridge is a gallon of milk, some OJ, and a few beers...and the freezer has a couple frozen pizzas....so I wasn't out a whole heck of a lot in the food dept. Sucks having to make room in the budget for that sort of stuff on such short notice....
  21. Talk about resurrecting an old thread! But, when I typed "mack clutch adjustment" into google, the link to this thread was the 3rd hit...and since I trust y'all ta give good advice (well, moreso than sites like ehow.com, anyways... ), I figure I'd go ahead & post here. Clutch brake quit working today. It ain't the first time that's happened, though...usually tosses 'em off every 6-8 months, and I USUALLY carry one in the truck with me, but hadn't bought a replacement since the last time I had to put one on. Anyway, I picked up a new one on my way to my last drop to install when I got home...but the old one was still there! 2-piece bolt together style, and the tangs (ends of the bolts?) had sheared off so it wasn't really doing much to stop the input shaft from spinning. I'd normally buy the ones that go together with the 2 rods that you stick into the brake, place the brake around the shaft, and then squeeze the rods together...then remove the rods. Seems to be easier than the bolt-together ones (this one was apparently installed when they did the clutch, because I didn't put it on there....) Anyway, the new clutch brake was the only one NAPA had...and it's the kind with the press-in roll pin. Which leads me to my series of questions (since I've never put this kind on before). The bag the thing came in says there's supposed to be 1/2" between the brake and the release bearing housing...so if the brake weren't in there, that would be roughly 7/8" gap (3/8" wrench fits over the brake....plus the 1/2" gap) with no brake in place. Right now, I can take a bolt with a 15/16" head on it and spin it around in the gap....so that's quite a bit more gap than it sounds like should be there....so I'm thinking it needs adjustment. Am I on the right track so far? The other factor leading me to believe it needs to be adjusted is that when the clutch was first done, the friction zone was MUCH closer to the floor. Now, nothing happens until the pedal is almost fully released. While I was under there removing the old clutch brake, I noticed something I've never seen before....I guess in all these years, either it has never ended up stopped down there by the inspection plate when I was under there greasing, installing a clutch brake, etc....or else I just never noticed it before.... (see attached pic)...I'm guessing that this clutch is the spring-lock type...because the yellow plastic around the bolt says to depress the bolt. There's also casting in the clutch housing that says "ADJ FOR WEAR"...so I'm pretty sure that's where I'd make the adjustment. So how far do I turn the bolt and how will I know when it is properly adjusted? Am I looking for that 7/8" gap (no brake installed yet) as I'm adjusting? Do I have to keep climbing up into the truck and stepping on the clutch to see where it is engaging? I've got a 2x4 cut to length to hold the clutch pedal in when I'm greasing it so I can access the throwout bearing's fitting...holds the pedal about 1/2 from the floor....is that about where the pedal should be while I'm adjusting? So many questions....hoping I don't screw it up. If it isn't already obvious, it'll be my first time adjusting a clutch.
  22. Well, I got a late start working on it today...stopped at Walmart on the way home from church to pick up some form-a-gasket sealant stuff to use to reinsert the axle shaft after I replaced the wheel seal. Of course to get to the automotive section of the store you've got to walk past the groceries....and them danged Krispy Kremes were calling my name. I know I shouldn't go to Walmart hungry, and this is why....I walk in for a $4 tube of goo and walk out with $70 in groceries. Oh well...at least it's all stuff I should be able to make....and if I don't, it'll keep for a while. Anyway, long story short, I got the wheel seal replaced, but didn't bother with either s-cam bushing. I figure I'm going to Mack tomorrow for the tie rod ends, front end completely checked out, and 3-axle aligned....they can do the bushings, too, while I watch/assist since it is something I've never done before. I'm not saying I couldn't figure it out...but it would probably be one of those "4-hours to do the first one, 10 minutes to do the second" type deals. It helps when you have a general idea what you're doing instead of trying to figure it out as you go. Dispatch probably won't be happy, but I'm not to thrilled with what these loads they are wanting me to do are paying...I'd much rather take the time off while they don't have any good loads for me to get the truck ready so that I'm good to go if/when the good loads come up.
  23. So I took my truck down to the tire shop today to get some new drives put on. I stopped off at Mack to get brake drums & shoes so I'd have something to do while they were changing the tires & save me having to pull the tires back off again in a few weeks...one of the reasons I like to use this tire shop. Anyway, I've had steel inside/aluminum outside rims since I bought the truck. Not anymore. All 4 of my aluminum rims were cracked. They had some used steel rims, so I got them to save on cost....eventually I'd like to replace all 10 rims. When I got to the right rear, the brake parts were covered in oil...so I didn't change them. Called Mack to have 'em set a wheel seal out for me....tomorrow's project. Then, on the left side, there was excess grease inside both drums...and the S-cams weren't really LOOSE, but they weren't tight either. So, another phone call to Mack (minutes before they closed) to have them add a bushing kit and a pair of S-cams (just in case)....my list of things to do tomorrow is growing. I went ahead and put the new brakes on those wheels, because I won't grease it until I'm done with the brakes...so they shouldn't get greasy between then & now. It wasn't too bad, either...but since I know about it, I gotta fix it. While I was there, I decided to have them rotate the front tires, because the front right was starting to show signs of uneven wear...they decided just to flip that tire around on the rim...no point in chewing up both tires. Anyway, once they had it remounted they couldn't get it balanced....machine calling for 28 oz of weight. They tried breaking it down again and spinning it on the rim....managed to get it down to 22 oz. Turns out, the wheel is wearing unevenly and was out-of-round. The "heavy" side of the tire had 3/32 more tread depth than the "light" side. So they looked at the front end to see if they could find what was causing the uneven wear...and the tie rod ends that were just put on 2 years ago are shot. So, they got the tire balanced as good as they could....10 oz of wheel weights and a 10 oz bag of beads inside the tire....and sent me on my way. MAN did that thing shake coming home! I'm supposed to go deliver this tank load today and run dumps Monday, but I think I'm just going to run 2 loads Monday and then pull into Mack to get the tie rod ends done and the truck aligned....then maybe next Saturday get new steer tires (even though I really can't afford 'em right now with everything else going wrong...but I can't afford to shake other parts loose or cause them to break by driving around longer than I have to on this out-of-round tire. Why did I buy a truck again? At least I don't have a truck note anymore....
  24. Scary thing is, the blood hasn't even dried yet and we have folks on the left crying about the need for more gun control....using tragedy to tug at the emotions of otherwise rational people in order to further their anti-freedom agenda. Funny thing is, though, if their version of "gun control" were effective, there would be no school shootings because schools have allegedly been "gun free zones" for quite a few years. I refuse to accept the premise that these sick fuckers who commit these attrocious acts of cowardly violence are mentally ill....they seem to have the presence of mind to select a location which renders their victims defenseless....schools.....malls....movie theaters.....public places where firearms are generally prohibited either by law or by the property owner. I'm not saying everyone should be armed....just that it is foolish to think that society is safer when the law abiding citizens are disarmed. Shit, in this case the gutless motherfucker attacked a bunch of kids. He didn't NEED to use a gun...he didn't NEED to use ANY weapon. He executed women and children...doesn't get much more pathetic than that. Anyway, the more I think about it, the more pissed off I'm getting. I really wish the media would stop making these animals infamous. Don't print or broadcast the perpetrator's name, image, or anything else. We seem to live in a society where everybody wants to be famous...to get their 15 minutes in the spotlight.....youtube, twitter, facebook, blogs, etc. are full of people trying to make sure everybody knows who they are. When someone commits a heinous act like this, they get their 15 minutes. Suddenly EVERYBODY knows who they are as the media digs up details to describe every aspect of the loser's life leading up to their crime. Screw that. Don't mention them. Don't show their picture. Don't dig into their past. Don't give them the time of day. Enough ranting for one night, though. Prayers for comfort go out to the families of the children killed, as well as those who lived through it. For those tasked with cleaning up, prayers for strength. That has got to be one hell of a gut-wrenching sight....
  25. There are no federal laws prohibiting carry in a CMV....you just have to obey the state laws for the state you happen to be in. I would have liked to see national reciprocity...just as one state must honor the drivers license of out-of-state drivers, if a state issues CCW permits, they should also have to honor the permits from other states. ...and just like every state has it's nuanced traffic laws that may vary from one state to the next, you'll have the same thing when it comes to carry laws.
