  1. That could happen today...and it'd be JUST as scary of a situation. I think Obama picked Biden as an insurance policy....something he wouldn't have had with a more competent VP.
  2. When I bought my house, I thought the 27' x 34' garage would be big enough. I can barely fit my motorcycle in there now. When I bought my new air compressor, I moved some stuff from the garage over to the house next door (that I WAS planning on tearing down) to make room....now that house is "storage" and is filling up. I don't know what's worse...to have all the storage space you could ever want and never need to get rid of anything.... ....or to not have ANY room to store stuff so that you'd be FORCED to only keep what you use on a regular basis. When I didn't have room to keep anything, I always would get pissed because I was re-buying something that I had once had & got rid of because I didn't have anywhere to keep it......and now that I've got room to store stuff, I STILL end up rebuying stuff when I need it because I can't remember what I did with it since the last time I used it... I hate stuff.
  3. Our country is $16+ TRILLION in debt...with another TRILLION plus added to the debt each and every year under this president. You can only print so much new money before it becomes worthless. Not only that, but currently the US dollar is used in oil trading. There has been talk about that possibly changing...and if it does, the market will be flooded with our worthless paper and the value of the dollar drops even more. If that happens, we're really screwed. In other words, we are broke. The government doesn't have the money to pay for people's medical treatment. And yes, there ARE systems in place so that everyone can receive treatment in a timely manner. NOBODY is turned away if they have a life-threatening injury or illness. The hospitals treat them, and you either give them your insurance information to be billed through the insurance company (you'll receive a bill for anything the insurance doesn't pay), or you can pay cash (and there is a "cash discount" that can literally knock 50% off the price in some cases since the hospital doesn't have to fool around with insurance companies), or if you don't have insurance OR the cash, they will send you a bill...and as long as you are paying something...ANYTHING...towards that bill, they make no further effort to collect. In other words, it isn't the end of the world. Money might get tight for a while...and you might have to cut out a few "extras" from your life....but at least you are still alive! Governments are instituted among men in order to secure certain unalienable rights...among them, LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. You have the right to life, but the duration or quality of that life is not guaranteed. You have the right to liberty...to make your own choices in that life...choices which will most certainly affect the duration and quality of that life....but those are YOUR choices to make, NOT the government's. You have the right to pursue happiness, but there is no guarantee of actually FINDING happiness, just that it is yours to pursue. Too many seem to think they have the right to BE happy, and that they have the right to use the power of government to FORCE others to sacrifice their own pursuits of happiness in order to fund it. Just like my liberty to wildly swing my fists ends at the tip of your nose, your right to healthcare ends at the tip of my wallet. If having health insurance will make you happy, adjust your budget to buy a policy of your own...but if you'd rather live in the big house with the fat mortgage, drive the new cars with large notes, and watch your 5000 channel cable TV service on your jumbo 72" HD TV, don't come crying to me when something happens and you've got to have "expensive" medical treatments, don't have insurance, and can't afford to pay for them. Life is FULL of choices....and the consequenses of those choices are for those who made them to deal with. Don't push your expenses off on me just because you were too irresponsible to make the right choices. Hell, I saw a picture in the paper a couple years ago...some city was cutting back on some welfare programs. The person in the picture complaining about the lack of government assistance had a TV 3 times the size of mine. I don't feel the least bit sorry for her. Perhaps she should have paid her own bills before buying such a luxury item? ...and as for letting somebody die because they are lazy or old, that is EXACTLY what will happen under Obama's health care law. An unelected panel of "medical professionals" will be formed to determine what treatments are going to be paid for, and who is eligible to receive those treatments. If you are too old....if they determine that your life isn't worth the investment of the medical treatment you are seeking, you will not receive it. That should NEVER be a decision left to the government.
  4. You get that windshield replaced yet? Dang....that thing was busted up pretty good. ...and I prefer weather ABOVE 90 degrees....unless it's snowing. If it is snowing, it can be 20-30 degrees....but if there's no snow, then I want it to be above 90. Besides...I FINALLY got my sliding rear window put in, and now it's too cold to enjoy the extra air.
  5. Grandpa ate corn flakes...so when we'd be over at his house for breakfast, we'd put sugar on 'em.
  6. When somebody else pays for your medical care, somebody else controls it....where you can go, what you can have done, how long you have to wait, etc. Personally, I don't WANT anyone else having that sort of control over my healthcare options...which is why I pay for my own individual insurance policy. I chose the policy based upon my own individual wants & needs, not based upon what somebody else thought was best for me or what works for somebody else's bottom line. The biggest problem with allowing somebody else to choose your health insurance coverage is that your options are limited to what they are willing (or able) to pay for. When the payer is broke, what level of care do you suppose you'll receive? Waiting 6 months to see a doctor....then by the time you DO get in, your health has either gotten better on its own or it has deteriorated to the point where they give you a pill to ease the pain while you die because there's nothing more they can do. This is one of the reasons the US leads the world in cancer survival rates....we can get in to see a doctor for diagnosis and specialists for treatment NOW...no waiting.
  7. Kentucky restaurant shut down after road kill found in kitchen Published October 01, 2012 / FoxNews.com A Chinese restaurant in Kentucky has reportedly been forced to shut its doors after allegedly serving up roadkill. WKYT.com reports that the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg was shuttered on Thursday after a customer called the health department when she saw a dead deer being wheeled into the kitchen. "Two of the workers came in wheeling a garbage can and they had a box sitting on top of it,” Kate Hopkins told the website. “And hanging out of the garbage can, they were trying to be real quick with it. So that nobody could see it. But there was like a tail, and a foot and leg. Sticking out of the garbage can and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen.” Paul Lawson, Whitley County’s environmental health inspector, said the owner’s son admitted to pick up the dead animal from the side of I-75 North in Williamsburg. The restaurant was immediately shut down. "They said they didn't know that they weren't allowed to,” Lawson said. “So that makes me concerned. But maybe they could have before. They didn't admit to doing it before.” Owners can reopen the restaurant, Lawson said, if it passes a secondary health inspection proving that they have properly sanitized it.
  8. Facebook doesn't like me. I've tried setting up an account several times.....keep getting this message:
  9. That's pretty funny coming from a man who perverted the Constitution....
  10. Don't see any reason why that truck shouldn't have been able to handle that trailer & that load....looks good up on there, though.
  11. Michigan lottery winner found dead of apparent drug overdose ECORSE, Mich. – Police say a Detroit-area woman who collected welfare benefits despite winning a $735,000 lottery prize has died of a possible drug overdose. ---snip---
  12. Texas cheerleaders win restraining order to allow Bible verses on banners at high school football games
  13. beans beans the musical fruit....
  14. 'round here the rain was too late to help the corn, but the beans are doing better. Harvest is running earlier than I ever remember it this year....last year they were pushing to get 'em out by new years, and here it is not quite October and they are almost done.
  15. I've never really cared much for the set-back axles. Push that steer tire forward and you'd have a truck....although that bumper looks like it could take a hit or two without breaking a sweat. When did they stop putting bumpers on big trucks? The one on my Mack is pretty tough...but most trucks if you look at the bumper the wrong way, it bends.
  16. ...that was a possibility I hadn't even pondered. It isn't just the Iranians that don't know satire, though....how many people here in the US actually think Sarah Palin said "I can see Russia from my house"? That was actually Tina Fey who said it on SNLwhile portraying Sarah Palin, who had ACTUALLY said that Russia can be seen from some places in Alaska (which is true...)
  17. Used to watch it all of the time...not so much anymore, though. Happened to turn it on about half way through that episode, though...
  18. ....so an Iranian radio station reported that a majority of Americans, if given the choice, would vote for the Iranian president over Obama? First of all, I doubt such a poll was ever taken in the US. Iran and the US are at odds on policy...a lot of which has to do with their nuclear ambitions. Iranian leaders (who no doubt control what is "reported" by their media outlets) want the Iranian people to think that the US people support what the Iranian government is doing...even if the US government doesn't like it. My second thought on this is that even if that report were credible, it only gives credence to the "ANYBODY BUT OBAMA" attitude present around here. Nobody here knows who Ahmadinejad is unless they listen to talk radio....so it would be no different than asking whether they would prefer Obama or Mohammad Mouse (Mickey's muslim cousin). They both have foreign-sounding names.....
  19. I hadn't seen these since I was a kid...so when I saw 'em at Wal-mart, I just had to buy 'em...
  20. Sarcastaball..... .....just don't drink Butters' Creamy Goo.
  21. $600-$900 per year will buy a nice gun...or a couple cheap ones....either way, I'd be better "protected" spending my money that way than by giving it to the government to "save" 10 LEO jobs. ...and why is it whenever money gets tight, the police, fire, and schools are ALWAYS the first budgets to be cut? Politicians know those are the most likely to get even the most hard-line among us to agree to higher tax rates. Not me. I don't care how many cops you're saying will be laid off, I'm not voting for ANY tax increases. It's time we hold these politicians feet to the fire. Household budgets are already tight...and "wants" are being cast aside until such time as the "needs" are met. I don't have the power to demand more money be given to me in order to secure my "wants"...and I don't like it when they force me to cut back on my own "wants" and "needs" just so they have the money to buy their own reelection. Tax increase? I oppose it. I don't care what it is allegedly for, I'm against it. My taxes are high enough already, and if the tax revenue collected isn't enough for the people in office to spend, perhaps we should get some people in there who are capable of spending the people's money more wisely. 10% is good enough for God....should be more than enough for the government, too. I doubt taxes will EVER be that low, though.
  22. Madonna calls Obama a 'black Muslim,' says she'll strip onstage if he wins new term NOBODY wants to see that!
  23. If I'd got everything done yesterday, I would have headed up to the gun range. It's been closed all summer for maintenance & repairs...just opened up last weekend, but I didn't go because I figured it'd be extra crowded. The gun show was this weekend, so I was figuring on heading out to go shoot while eveyone else was at the show...and then hitting the show on the way back, but this weekend's projects took priority. I still haven't shot my newest gun...figuring the stacked wood will make a sufficient back stop, though, so I might just shoot it off a few times right here at home once I finish getting that trunk bucked up and stacked.
