With the temperatures in the mid 60's I headed down to work on my old Mack today. I was hoping to put an end to a power steering leak that has plagued the truck since I bought it. After running the engine for a little while I noticed a "stripe " of oil on my plywood under the truck.I also noticed oil on my belts, fuel filter and passenger side fender. I am thinking the main seal is shot? What are your opinions of this. Could it be something else that is easier to fix? With the V8 gone and the longer 237 in line 6 block it is very tight under there near the radiator. The seal is about $25 , yet the radiator and fenders will just about have to come off to do this repair . UGH! no wonder the tilt hood was designed!

Buy it! There is a list of things to do to it to see if it will run. The current owner has little interest in it. If he did he would know it is worth more than that scrapped. If you get in over your head someone from this site can surely help. If worse comes you could probably sell it to someone on this site. Sell it to part out is one option above scrapping it, but that option would be yours. Think about this. Buying it, doing the PRE-start work and it runs!!!! Most for sale trucks I have seen don't sell quick due to the transportation costs after the sale. Most of it seems to be there.

I was confused too by the model # too. It was the heaviest b-model I ever saw. With all the people around and the close parking I couldn't get a good shot of the rears.I really enjoy Mid America show, but there are too many 2 year old Pete's and KW's . They all kind of look alike to me.Guess that's why I have what I have.

With the much appreciated help from David Smith we tried to get my B 615 going today. We put on a new primer pump , she cranked with weak batteries but would not start. How can I make sure the new pump has not allowed air in the fuel ilnes. Or how do you get it out? The engine is a endt-675 (237 maxidyne) The new primer pump has a spring on it so I can't feel the increased pressure as I repeatedly pump it. Any help is appreciated. Thank You ,Bobby

Did UPS ever run R models
Bobby Covert replied to Lmackattack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
The first run of Mack ch's did not have the bulldog. They all started with the number 240... All numbered after that had the bulldog. The newest tractors all start with 273... -

Tell Papa it does my and probably everybody else on this site a world of good to see him working on that Mack with and for you. The world needs more men like that as they seem to be rather scarce -
Did UPS ever run R models

I never saw an R-model wear the brown. I have seen pictures of the "Baby Mack", a conventional made around the same time as the Mid liner. I have seen a cabover H model on Hanks Truck pictures too. We had one W series cabover Ford. It used to bounce back and forth between Lexington and Louisville hubs. I asked why just one and was told Ford gave it to them to try and sell some. There are currently 2 or 3 MH's behind the shop in Lexington. They won'y even discuss selling one to you.
