  1. pin striping and gold leafing is a lost art. I bought some brushes and played around with some ideas but am not ready to do work on someones truck. Best advice is ask some local hot rodders if they know of a local pin stripe guy. Hard to find but they are out there. alot of these guys can do the gold leaf as well. Good luck Trent
  2. ask some of the hot rod guys (cars) some of the old hot rodders rebuild these found on old cars. I have a fairly recent rat rod mag somewhere with a write up on these shocks/dampers. IMO just put newer style shocks on them as they will do a better job controling the movement.
  3. reminds me of the time I started my 87" suberban. Fired it up and drove out the driveway. turning onto the street I heard a god awful scream. thinking it was a bearing or belt going bad I turned the engine off, opend up the hood and saw a racon wraped in the fan belts. that was a mess. it was dead So I just drove back to the yard to get a pry bar to dislodge the thing. I felt bad but who the hell sleeps on a timing cover?
  4. i like the K.I.S.S rule keep it simple stupid! LOL this is how I did my RS700L. I moved the in dash radio to a newer style overhead console
  5. never fails.. do it your self and it gets fixed right i would talk to the manager about your bill! regardless..glad you found the issue and its fixed!
  6. one of the duel movie and Convoy trucks were both rebuilt by a guy in St louis. I suspect the R600 in Mad max was totaled out and used for parts?
  7. if for one year the US stopped paying for the world to get on with life. we would likely have the cash to fix all our countrys issues and in a way reset itself. Get rid of these BS programs that help other countrys and lets for once focus on our people. Once we get back on track we can offer help.. but limit it. I want to start seeing other countries do what we do. Close the door on Mexico and see how long they last without our help. that would be a slap right back at them..
  8. the older maxidynes were measured in brake hp. Brake HP is measured at the flywheel and does not compensate for drivetrain losses. Trent
  9. this thread was very misleading
  10. yea for a play truck it would be ok but for any soft off road work... good luck Im with Herb 80+ if the 237 can keep up. it will however get you back from the truck shows on time!
  11. here in the US we had some GM and Cat engiens sneak into the long hood superliners R700 and RS700L cummins was the most commonly off breed engine found under the hood. I remember roadway having alot of R700s with 318 detroits
  12. The old girl can get up .. nice video!
  13. welcome back David.. was wondering where you went?
  14. Most twin stack superliners I have seen had 90 degs at the bottom and ran under the cab to a Y pipe. the diffrence in mounting would be if the truck had an air ride cab vs solid mount. some stacks had frame mounted brackets wile the older superliners were cab mounted like the west cost R models had.. this is just what I notice. My RS700 has twin cab mounted stacks. the top of the mufflers are level with the rain gutter at the top of the cab. the muffler bottoms end about 14" above the frame hight. just about the min amount of space needed to get a 90 bend under the cab Trent
  15. just a heads up. save your torn door panels and have them remade at a local shop.Alot of interior parts seam to be NLA from mack, I had one remade last year for around $80 looking good!
  16. yea he posted this a year or so ago but its still fun to watch. I like how he backs all the way to the hill side to get the speed for the hill.
  17. 953 and 963 always liked them, 953 was good for small jobs and the 963 could load a truck real fast and push most piles down in just 2 passes.
  18. nice looking RS looks like you took pride in her
  19. some guys up here use a 3rd gladhand for the tailgate open/close operations on a dump trailer. ???
  20. I think the mack gliders are done? I havent seen one in a few years? EPA might have killed it?
  21. Rob I must say you live a intresting yet simple life.
  22. best way to learn is too watch, listen, and then give it a go. Keep you ego in check and your attention on the important stuff your doing. I remember driving the first full day by myself it was a little wierd but after an hour I felt comfortable with all the basics. After a week I was in tune with the truck and withing a month I had discovered most of the tricks and was good at most of the tricky things that came my way. Good luck Trent
  23. rob stop blaming it on the trucks you need rehab
  24. or did you find a home?
  25. the E9 was used in the Superliner,MH,CL, i think the RM and RD800s possibly the cruise liners as I cant recall? the older ENDT865/866 were used in everything from R700s,RS700s Cruiseliners,F models,C models B models I think some early R600 even had them? The E9 was a better design than the older endt 8xx models and was a stought engine if cared for. For real high HP some mods are needed to keep the main caps in place. also valve spring work is a good idea for High RPMs. I think the Detroit would be a lighter engine and because of the 2 stroke design it might be a better drag strip engine for as it seams many can wind those engine out pretty high and take advantage of larger RPM range. Compairing a V8 detroit vs the E9 for pulling ...Hands down the E9 has the torque needed to pull weight....
