  1. I work full time at Carl Haas Auto Imports. the same owner runs his parnerships Newman Haas Lanigan IRL team out of the same building . My main gig is to rebuild dampers and drive one of the 4 trucks to the race tracks. Its still fun to travel if I run alone but the traveling is getting old. I would say its better than hauling freight but like anything it gets old with age. This year my scedual has been very relaxed and have spent all summer home. I needed the brake from the road so im not complaining. THE IRL has about 20 race weekends. I would never want to run with the nascar crowd. not just becasue I dislike the cars but the 40 some odd weekends that they race..NO THANKS!!. I will be back up in RA later next weekend for the ALMS and Atlantic race. If anyone is up that way let me know.
  2. Herb, I tried covering up the chicago accent but I think my slicked back black hair and dark sunglasses was a shure giveaway that I was not a local LOL!!!
  3. Had to haul a Champ car trailer From Road America raceway in Elkhart lake WI back to the chicago burbs took a few pics of the truck a the oasis and back at the shop. Not a bad combo in my opinion new million dollar trailer with a 30 year old truck. Lots of looks at the track and on I-94 heading home.
  4. I have seen a few mid 70s R700s with V8 detroits but never any superliners I have heard there were a few made. Most superliners I see have the std mack 6 or v8 mack, a few with cats and alot with BCcummins Trent
  5. Truck, car, bike and train show at the IRM http://www.irm.org/ lots of vintage machines to be seen all in one place. you wont be dissaponted Trent
  6. an air to air will have likely 2 times more cooling fin surface than the charge air cooler box does. As said above,The tip turbines were good for there time but todays air to air is more efficent. If you want more boost, faster responce etc.. find a diffrent turbo. if you are working the truck dont get to crazy with a diffrent turbo set up. you may louse performace where you need it most? Trent
  7. Grease any zerks on the stering first. If that does not help it could be that your low on PS fluid? if the pump cavatates the oil it may make a high pitch vibration that sounds like a howl? or the steering box is forcing the spindle to contact the stops and the pump is fighting the stops? start with those
  8. 1600 seams low for such a large engine However I guess it was big power for its day. I guess it makes it up with the HP? I have only driven a few DD 2 stokers and they never felt like they had much power. just alot of noise and alot of gears needed to make the noise LOL
  9. Rob, I think Skip is talking about the lightweight LT mack models "LTL" Sounds like your having fun with the trucks. Cant wait to see how it turns out. I would love to get a E9 V8 under the hood of the RS but fuel costs would have me worried. not to mention having to change the trans and driveshafts to get it all in properly. Whats the TQ rating on the DDV12s? Trent
  10. if the truck has a E7 and front mount intercooler I see no need to go to a tip turbine. Only reason I would see the use of a Turbine set up on an E7 Is for fitment issues in a smaller truck. I think the 4V E7 manafolds are a little diffrent than the 2 valves? that may be an issue? Trent
  11. If I recall it is a Mack PTO and no longer availible (thats the rumor I have heard) Most common set up was to bolt it to the lower coutershaft. You would need to check your trans to see if it will accept this PTO. There may be a stamp on one of the countershaft covers that notes that the trans will accept this PTO. if still not shure just pull the lower contershaftcover and look inside for splines. I think this was a more common set up for dumptrucks/lowboys etc.. Im not shure of the load rating for this one so check before you go looking. I just like this set up as you can keep the aux in direct or low low when raising the box. the only downside is you only get one PTO speed. Trent
  12. Hey Rob What about the countershaft PTOs for the 6 speed? . Thats what I have with mine and love it. You dont need to have the main in gear and aux in nutral to operate it. just flip the swith and it starts pumping Trent
  13. THE DUMP BOX IS WAY TO SMALL FOR A MACK:P
  14. if the price is better than having stock ones repaired than this is a great option! Trent.
  15. Barry whats the price we are looking at here? Thanks trent
  16. You mentioned that you idle it alot. that may be the issue as well? If oil is getting past any seals in the exhaust or unburnt fuel is puddling up with carbon buildup it will shurely smoke. Like Rob said Give it a good pull and get the exhaust hot. that will burn off the oil and fuel trapped in the exhaust. trent
  17. Larry Just thinking out lound here.. could you install air bags to the rear of the new springs? and then bolt an upper plate to the bottom of the frame rails . would the front hanger alow the spring to pivot a little?I know time is the issue here and it may take a full weekend to finish the job? Trent
  18. The only problem with the digatal image prints is that the sun fades them farly fast.(1 year) atleast with the ones friends have recently bought. I found a company that would reproduce the logo with green, red, brown and dark brown but the set up cost were high with all the colors. He had also said that they could make digatal image prints but they fade quickly.
  19. SOUND LIKE FUN! JUST BE GLAD THAT IT DIDENT GIVE YOU REAR STEERING!
  20. In my aera Lowboy work is the ideal way to make mony inthe construction bizz. Dump trucks can make steady cash but the lowboy makes more hour for hour of work. Depending on the state or who you work for will determin the min amount of coverage needed. You likely need to add cargo insurance to your policy as you are now hauling "cargo". The truck sounds set up for most lowboy work is it double framed? thats a bonus if so. You need to know what type of machines you will be primarly moving. Some lowboys have deeper and longer decks that may be needed for clearance of certain machines. a 20" deck may be to short for some machines so make shure you ask the customers what they have. from what I see in my aera a used lowboy ranges from 20K and up, New they are around 40K and up. The gooseneck diffrences in trailers can make life easy or hard on you depending on the set up. You will possibly find air or manual pin latching and block hight adjustments. just look at the little diffrences. good luck Trent Blasco
  21. It is sad. The recent mack model names sound like golf clubs. Granite and Titan are more in line but still lacking a little.
  22. LOOKS COOL EXCEPT FOR THE MIRRORS. props for something diffrent
  23. I have never done any maitance on a trans top cover so cant comment on the parts. I always liked a little slop in the aux stick. It made faster and manytimes smoother forward to reverse shifts possible. The first R I drove full time had a aux stick so sloppy that I could go from low low/1 to reverse/1 with out the cluth and no scratches! only time I used a clutch was from a dead stop.
  24. I carry a craftsman 130+ socket set about 30+ diffrent wrenches misc pliers, cutters, screwdrivers etc.. brake air hose fittings. air hose to reach the rear of the trailer hammers, etc.. The one thing I want to mount to the nose of the trailer is a spare tire carrier. My delema is that I have 24.5 budds on the tractor and 22.5 daytons on the dump trailer.what to I carry for a spare. my luck is what ever spare I carry will not be the correct one when a tire blows out. I lost a steer tire last year and that would have saved me a few hudred dollars if I had a spare. I also dont have any more room on the rails of my tractor to install a 2nd tool box for the jack and blocks of wood. I need to relocate the air drier and then can fit another 3' tool box. If I traveled cross country I would have all the stuff in order. but I work localy Trent
