  1. Great "action shots" I know alot of people dislike the 9 speeds but I love them. that 350 and 9 will be a great set up for work or play. Whats the plan for the new toy? My frined is rebuilding a 440HP E9 I cant wait to take it for a spin with a trailer load full of gravel!
  2. are there diffrent pullers for the 2V engines or are all the same. I see some ads for pullers that will work with cat, detroit, mack etc... I just want one that will work with my Engine.?
  3. is it a "low rpm engine" ? there were some mack engines that were set up to turn lower RPMS. I want to say 1800 or 1900 RPM was the max rpm that you could pushwith those engines. not shure if some of the E7s were one of them?
  4. Rob keep us posted on the results as i have not found any people to redo my interior. If yours turns out as expected I would like to contact them to have mine done. Might be a good way to get people aftermarket interiors if Mack does not want to stock our needed parts.
  5. good luck finding them. Mack has discontinued alot of the interior parts even for trucks less then 6 years old. I too as well as many others have been looking for these interior parts
  6. Its a great concept but I wont like it when I cant wrench on it without my laptop pluged in check out this concept http://www.coatesengine.com/
  7. SORRY TO HEAR HOPE YOU ARE OK. IS THE TRUCK TOTALED?
  8. Nice job Chris. nothings better than to bring to life again an old diesel. Might want to add some snake oil to the pump and let it soak overnight. Im shure it is gummed up a bit after sitting so long. algie and other weird stuff can grow in Diesel .
  9. I belive its called a cool power (aussi spec)I think based off a 2VALVE 285hp tip turbine? sad to see it get rolled but that truck was tuff as nails to survive those crashes.
  10. pretty insane that the last seen in the move where the Mack was rolled over was driven by a stunt driver! http://www.madmaxmovies.com/making/madmax2...Roll/index.html
  11. I bet you closed your eyes tight when you cut those chains I have been guilty of that also so dont feel to bad. Last year I was on a job site with no one around (weekend) I raised the box and forgot to hit the switch for the air tail gate. box was up on the 3rd hoist stage when I noticed. I hit the switch and nothing. stoped the pto and let it back down. Still no luck. had to back up to a clay pile. I balanced a 6x6 timber on the spread pan and dirt pile. I gave it a vew bumps in revers into the clay pile and it poped open... Just one of those days Then there was the time I was on I-94 south of the loop (chicago) I came up to my exit ramp with a long line of dump trucks all heading to the same concrete dump I was going to. I made the turn with the other trucks and as I got closer to the truck in front of me I see this chunk of concrete swinging on a rod of rebar out his tailgate. I backed off fearing what could happen. He went a few more miles like that. When we got to the yard the operator chewed him out for his stupidity. Trent
  12. I know of a guy that has low milage macks sitting on stands for the same reason. he used them only for big jobs when he needed the extra trucks. Now they have been sitting for years. He just rebuilds his other R modles and puts them back on the road. waiting for them to be totaled out or some major unrebuildable damage. Someday will come and he will bring out the mid 80's R models and he will have just as dependable trucks that have been paid for making him good money Trent
  13. WILL THERE BE FREE STORAGE FOR ARE TRUCK PARTS! MY TOWN HOUSE WITH 2 CAR GARAGE IS TOO SMALL I NEED MORE SPACE FOR ALL MY MACK STUFF!!!
  14. If were talking commercial plates/tags (not inspection stickers) then $500 is cheep!!! I payed $4k for plates and fedral highway use tax (needed to pay befor a plate is issued) then thers the insurance fees. Antique tags were around $80 and good for 5 or more years. insurance was $250-300 per year
  15. The Ten Commandments of Dump Trucking 1.Thou shalt not dump while on un level ground, for surely one day the load will hang up on the low side and the trailer will fall down beside thee. Great oaths and sworn statements as to how many times thou has dumped in worse places will be to no purpose for thy insurance company will forsake thee and thy future employment prospects will be much in doubt. 2.Thou shalt line up thy tractor with thy trailer before dumping lest thou be branded as an idiot who tries to dump while jack-knifed and condemned to an eternity of changing tires. 3.Thou shalt be sure that thy PTO and pump are not engaged while traveling upon the highways. The view of twelve miles of power and telephone cable draped gracefully around thy hoist is not pleasing to the responsible authorities and the sight of thy trailer body resting ever so gently against the top of a bridge can stir them to such great anger that thou are compelled to dwell in their municipal hotel for many days and nights and to be deprived of feminine companionship, strong drink and Monday night football all during that time. 4.Thou shalt not permit another rig to dump while alongside thine, to the left nor to the right, lest the operator be lacking in skill and upset his trailer on top of thine. The humor of such an occurrence may elicit smiles and boisterous laughter from thy companions but will not be apparent to thy employer and should only be reported to him after determining that in neither hand does he hold a tire billy or other blunt instrument. 5.Thou shalt be certain that hydraulic hoses are in good condition at all times lest a worn hose blow out when thou tryest to dump a 60,000 lb. Load, 30 miles from town in 15 degree weather and thou findest it necessary to unload it with a shovel 10lbs at a time. 6.Thou shalt replace broken or weak springs in matched pairs. To upset a loose load because of one bad spring while dumping on a level concrete pad is an embarrassment which will follow thee all the days of thy life. 7.Thou shalt not allow rocks or any other commodity to spill from the vehicle lest they bash in the windshield of the Smokey following behind thee. A calamity of that nature may cause thee to be considered a hazard to the motoring public and unfit to wear double clutching boots, chain drive wallets or other emblems of the professions. 8.Thou shalt not permit bulldozers or loaders to make any contact with thy vehicle, neither from the front not from the rear, nor from either side, for the appearance of thy vehicle will be much worse after such contact and the rascal at the repair shop will demand cash in large quality to correct the damage. 9.Thy tires shall be checked for adequate pressure daily and whacked with a tire billy every time thou stoppest, lest thy first knowledge of a flat is when thy C.B. comes to life with "Break, Break for Dum Dum Dump, Thou Art On Fire." 10.Thou shalt become wise in the nature of the commodities thou haulest. Such as: that if a load of lime is allowed to get wet it becomes as gummy gelatin and will stay in thy trailer forever, although a wet load of coal will present thee no problems, except when it is very cold, when it freezes solid as a rock. In that way, thou shalt prevent many unpleasant surprises. Blessed are the careful and wise for they generally remain employed.
  16. I dont know the Mississipi state laws so cant comment on the inspection price in your state. I drive my commercial plated mack down to the inspection station near me, pull into the bay and I wait in the cab. they check brake adjustment, tire tread, lights, steering play, horn, wipers, as well as a few others that I cant think of right now. If i remember it cost about $40 for a 3 axel tractor and $30 for a tandem axel trailer. It was the same price when I had antique plates. $500 sounds a little steep shure your not living in CA Trent
  17. alot of gearboxes, mack and off breed brands have "low low" some are better than others. the mack 6 speeds and 8LL are both good gearboxes for the offroad. some transmissions were intended for on road and very little offroad (gravel dirt etc..) other for on and off road (soft clay, job sites etc..) A big HP engine wont help you get a truck moving in the dirt if that low gear is to fast. thats how you snap diffs, clutches driveshafts etc.. Rear end ratio is a major factor for off road also. but thats another story with truck specs.
  18. FOR A TRUCK WITH COMMERCIAL OR ANTIQUE PLATES I PAY $40 FOR TRACTOR INSPECTION iF THE TRUCKS NOT FOR HIRE GET ANTIGUE PLATES AND INSURACE(SAVE YOURSELF $10K
  19. Like Freightrain said Its a gear box with an extreamly low gear ratio. Its used to move heavy loads in the mud or up a steep incline. mostly found in off road trucks.
  20. if the trucking industry was smart they would look at some of the current trends in the auto industry. Classic looks are back in style. We see cars that share simmilar body lines for yesteryears. Headlights that work better but have the oldskool look. I think if they could bring back some of the B,R,L looks they might have a hot seller. They could start with just putting a new body on a current Med duty chassie and see if people like it. Just my .02
  21. hey Joe truck looks a little diffrent> I lost my copy that I made so dont louse yours!!! I havent looked hard for it but pissed as I wanted to show my friends you truck>
  22. If you count the gears it looks like its a 5 or 6 speed? He did a2nd gear start. 3rd gear and the wheel comes up a little again!!!!. I wonder how that driveshaft was built to with stand all that torque.
  23. Ever see a mack lift its leg on an offbreed?? not bad for what looks like a 5 speed
  24. I think Volvos ownership will keep the Mack name alive but thats not always a good thing, If they continue to make poor decisions like removeing mack parts in favor of off breed componets or rebadged volvo componets no one will think of a mack as a tuff truck. The trucking industry is known for slow change as most owners dont want something unproven on there truck. the only saving grace is if Volvo keeps the mack drivetrain seprate from Volvos and increases the options on Macks. Mack is a work horse but in todays market we need more options for owners. Many owners think a 400hp engine is the min for over the road. Its sad that many Lowboy trucks and heavy haulers wont even look at a mack anymore and that needs to change. there is a reason why people liked there R models and would rather have an old truck than a new one that has electrical issues. If Volvo can get more options and intrest towards macks than I think we have a chance... Time will tell Regardless my 78' RS wont stop till the wheels come off!!
  25. My END711 will slobber when cold. the exhaust fumes from the unburnt fuel will evacuate anyone in the aera on start up I get that same oily sludge that drips from the exhaust pipe. I havent had the truck on the road yet so cant say it gets better when up to proper temp. .
