  1. I think you are speaking of a booster engine. Its a steam powered axle mounted on the trailing truck under the cab of a steam engine. Its only used to help getting a engine moving from a stop or sometimes when the engine is moving up a steep grade and its speed falls below 20mph or so. they cut them out once speed or acceleration renders them unneeded.
  2. very nice Valueliner. They were great looking "Westerns" what are the specs on it?
  3. I liked the old Milwaukee road speed signs that read "slow to 90" !!!!... there was a sign like this in Deerfield IL and another in Roundout IL but removed way before my time on this earth!
  4. If anyone wants to help a good cause look here... these guys have raised over 30k in less than 3 days to help get this engine moved to the Texas railroad museum. read the story in the link below. https://www.gofundme.com/help-save-the-la-503-friends-of?viewupdates=1&rcid=r01-15190544513-81e49f058b4e4f4f&utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&utm_content=body_photo&utm_campaign=upd_n
  5. I saw her come thru Roundout IL at speed on its way to Michigan about 7 years ago. was a site to see. We had NKP 765 come thru 2 summers ago Metra took the leash off her for her run north from Glenview. watching a 80mph steam locomotive pass you is a site to see.
  6. I cant comment on the Mack end of the wiring but in a car it was fairly easy to get a remote start or key less entry installed. only recently with the new electronics has it been hard to do but just about every new car has key less entry these days I have used viper and it will start and lock/unlock my car from about 150' away.
  7. That is interesting and sad at the same time. Take a good known engine and ruin it with EPA crap... sounds about right with how our government works.
  8. with the air disc , can the dot even check them easy?. Brake out of adjustment has got to be one of the bigger inspection fails. only down side is you have to slowly change the whole fleet over or have 2 versions of brakes in the fleet..
  9. if found to be sane.....
  10. I may be confusing the designation? I was speaking of the Maxxforce engine that navistar built...that engine was a problem from day one
  11. If the cab over is like the R models the power runs from the batteries to the starter. from starter to fuse panel. at the panel some power goes to lights and such that will turn on when the key is off. other power goes to a relay that is only on with the key in the run position. I would first check that + power is in fact making it to these locations, put the ground probe on a solid ground such as the frame or negative battery post. If you have power checking it this way. then you have a bad ground. (most common electrical issue) check the grounds or simply add in a new ground from the frame up to where ever you see the panel ground is at. Can never have to many ground wires.
  12. I 100% agree that Cruz is ultimately at fault. he was behind the trigger and acted alone. However the one solid defense we have to prevent this exact action was ignored by the people that we pay to help prevent this. And now all we will hear is we will review protocol (other wise known as make it even more complicated and fuck ups continue) bottom line is if I dial 911 with a claim that I see someone about to cause harm the police show up. If I called the FBI about a terrorist threat to a school. I would hope they would send out someone to investigate the issue and question me on what I know about said threat. This was complete lazy failure on the FBI. unless other facts come out to show the FBI did in fact do something I stand by my statements. Trent
  13. the MX engines that I know of no one likes them and they have lots of issues. James I said the same thing. mack is has continued to slip in the off road markets and now the refuse market. The recent leadership clearly does not understand how to build and sell trucks that people want. that being said I do think Mack builds a better truck but they cost more, look like hell, and are always one step behind pete and KW with regards to options.
  14. Nice specs Auto transmissions are the way to go these days with the new trucks. Wait did I just say that out loud??? . It will be interesting to see how well it stands up compared to the rest of your Mack fleet. It will surly stand out in the yard.
  15. I was out this afternoon and when I returned late tonight My wife asked me if I had heard about the FBI not looking into this threat 5 weeks ago. I turned on the news and was so pissed when I heard this was over looked. WTF is that. Thats like calling 911 and the cops or fire dept never show up. This person saw the threat, called into the FBI because they knew it was a serious issue above the local police dept level. and nothing was done . A quick look by any piss ant at the FBI would have found the social media posts and a interview with the caller could have provided many other tips to have headed this killing spree off. My Father in law was a Orlando cop and he informed me of the Baker act. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Mental_Health_Act My local physician could have had him detained with a simple note....The FBI and local PD had clear evidence to stop and detain cruz if they would have checked their E-Mail or Voicemail.. So pissed right now...
  16. Chicks dig scars. just need to come up with a better story Feel better!
  17. looks like a cascadia???? not a fan of that truck. Sleeper looks all plastic as well... that will be a squeaky ride after it rattles itself louse
  18. What drive train did you guy spec with it?
  19. for every 60,000 miles one can receive $1000???? If my math is correct thats a bonus of about .016 CPM for driving teams...Hell Id pay my Employer $1000 just so I did not have to drive teams. It sounds great until you do the math. In my opinion they should be looking to get a driver home as often as they can vs keep them out on the road for longer periods. I cant see them retaining drivers with this smoke and mirrors program. But thats just my .02 worth
  20. when was the last time it was drained? need to drain it again in say a week and see how much oil comes out of it
  21. some of the later R models and early CH models had a known issue with surge tanks and coolant push issues, did you replace the cap yet?
  22. I keep calling it the Antler for some unknown reason?
  23. I know that engine and metal technology has advanced but simple physics stay the same. A smaller engine working hard to make 450Hp will not last as long as a larger engine that makes the same hp but under less stress. Synthetic Oil has improved engine wear but lets be real about any of these new engines. Every engine Mfg highlights the good HP and TQ numbers . they dont highlight they bad things with them....Regardless of engine stand testing, A large percent of them out in the real vocation world cant get past 300,000 miles without some sort of major costly issues. To me even the older engines that needed bearings at 300k were still more reliable regardless of their HP. You could make the argument that the little 300hp maxidyne used today is a better option on cost savings alone.... HP and TQ are just numbers same as operational cost and replacement.. It reminds me of the old saying Good, Fast and Cheap, you can pic 2 but never have all 3
  24. I will admit that after being out of an R model for a while then getting into one it takes a few stop lights to get back into the habit of letting the RPMs drop before grabbing the next gear. I also tend to pull it out of 5th looking for that next gear on the highway . but they were the trucks I learned on and it comes back to you quick. I think the guys that have never driven a 5 or 6 speed mack but spent years with 13 speeds have it harder to grasp the shifting of them
  25. I think The 9 speed is the closest at .71
