  1. I know alot of OTR guys liked the Series 60 but all the billy big rig paccar owners tried to talk if down for it not being a cat or cummins. I think it was just as reliable as the 3406E and it got better fuel milage.
  2. low pro 24.5 is basically the same overall diameter as a 11R22.5. The rev per mile between the two tires is a difference of less than 1mph in top gear. You are in a pinch here. You can turn the RPMs up to 2100 safely but it still does not change the fact of the huge overdrive that the little 300 still pulls in. I had a friend with a low RPM motor turned up to 2100 and it did great pulling 73,280 around with a 6 speed but it would drink the fuel. I ran out of fuel one day and the 55gal tank was full when I left the yard. mind you this was all Chicagoland driving. Going to a 9 speed with a slower OD will allow the engine to not work as hard but it drops your max MPH down to 54MPH (at 1800RPM) and you would want to turn the pump up anyways. Also that Mack 9speed with 5.73 rears will have you some very short gears on the low side. I would think that the low side would have a few redundant gears but the high side would better suit your needs. 4.42 was a common rear gear for the 9 speed. I should also mention that the 9 speed mack had range selector clutch pack issues. there were revisions made to them thru the years Trent
  3. I think his best bet for now is to turn the pump up to a 2100 maxidyne setting and see if he likes it better? it wont change the gap between 4th and 5th but it will have more balls pulling thru the gears. I pump re cal around here is about $150 if you pull and re install it yourself.
  4. Ok that is why I was asking... with 5.73 rears you are kinda limited. That Mack 5 speed has a .60 overdrive in 5th gear and should put you at 74MPH at 2100RPM . If you can only do 65 I think you may have a low RPM pump setting (1800RPM) you can turn that pump up to a normal 2100RPM pump and it will run alot better but it will drink some fuel. for example here are the top speeds at 2100 rpm with 22.5 tires and 5.73 rears Mack 5 or 6 speed direct with 22.5 tires and 1:1 trans 44MPH in top gear T2090 Mack 9 speed with 22.5 tires and .71 OD puts you at 62 MPH in 9th gear 12 speed mack with 22.5 tires and .78OD 57MPH in 12th gear 8LL with 22.5 tires and .60 OD puts you at 60 MPH in 8th gear you can see from where the speeds fall between a direct trans or a .60 to .78 over drive Trent
  5. First off what rear end ratio do you have? Mack made some of the slowest and fastest transmission and the rear end gearing was very different.

  7. Dan I like how you are using what looks like a KW style Battery box/Step under the doors. Its one place where I think Mack had it backwards on sleeper cab trucks. With putting the fuel tanks under the bunk and the batt box under the cab it just looked cleaner and the exhaust routing did not have to be stuffed under the cab. The KW steps also have a much wider foot plate for ease of getting in and out of the cab. The use of the early Rs700L box is interesting. I recall seeing a Superliner where they added a pete or KW style Battery box/steps like you have under the cab and behind the steer tire they removed the stock Mack air tank and batt box. In its place they put a flat painted panel in its place similar to how a Pete does. made the hood look even longer than normal.
  8. Looks mounted up side down. Makes it easy to lousen but what a mess it will make when the seal brakes. And then how do you bleed off all that air LOL? I always refill the new filter with fuel to avoid air lock

  14. I would be curious to know how many drum mfg choose Mack for their display truck at this show. Seams Macks garbage and Cement truck market has been slipping the last few years

If you were not working the truck electric fans should work. lots of car guys use them and some of the newer fans a gairly quiet and push /pull the air needed. that being said I always like a truck that can work and show... I think the KW A model Extended hood is 74" long you can use that as a reference to the superliner hood... If I was to do it and had the $$$ to play with I think I would move the cab back a few Inches and have the hood re glassed the extra length. It would still look like a stock superliner until you started looking it over closer. just my .02
  16. I know the E9 takes up alot of the superliner hood with the turbos behind the engine. I would say for sure the V12 turbos would need to be placed up top or hang them each from the side. In theory the block is as long as a straight 6
  17. 1778mm is 70" or 5'.8" thats a pretty long hood I know a R700 and superliner have a BBC of 119 and a RS700 has a BBC of 117. if someone knows the length of the +3 cab you can do the math for hood length.
  18. the factory v12 Rs700Ls had cowl extension panels. I would assume the superliner may need them as well?

  21. Not here in Chicago. Chicago mack dealers once had new macks in the Lot, now we have no 100% Mack truck dealrships that I know of. M&K and CIT truck centers are what we have now. they sell KW mack others. you would be lucky to spot a mack in the lot, if you do find on it was just in for service. yet there will be 30+ New Volvo tractors front and center in the lot....
  22. Looks like they are removing the stack for Hight reasons?... some of the cat pavers I moved had a stack with a hinge on them to lower them during transport.
  23. Intresting.. think about that for a moment. a Mack suspension that is still used today some 80 years later. its had many changes and upgrades but the concept unchanged.
  24. How long has the camelback been around. I know B models had it .....Late 40s?
