  1. From Wiki.... 1969: Mack patents the cab air suspension.
  2. I have pics of them stored somewhere. They were V8 macks with 2 stick 6 speeds. I remember both trucks had issues in the floor where the rear cab mounts to the frame cross members. there were not air ride cabs and with that short wheelbase and spring ride it looks like Chicago roads gave them a beating. the floors had a upward hump in them. Not sure why but I have only seen that damage to the floors on the western R models?
  3. When they had their RS700L's for sale about 10 years ago I stopped in to look at them. In the shop they had a 2 or 3 new mid 80s R models just sitting on jack stands waiting for work or to replace a crashed truck. I for get the mileage but it was very very low. Their RS700L's went to a exporter
  4. I may be wrong here but if you get away from the "B model" transmissions such as a 5, 6 or 12 speed used in the R models your clutch linkage changes. The B75 I just bought has a 285 maxidyne and 5 speed. inside the cab the B model clutch pedal that was pushed thru the floor was removed and a R model Pedal was installed. They bolted the pedal bracket to the fire wall and used the R model style cable linkage to the bell housing . It worked out great but if you plan to change transmissions to a pull vs push style clutch it wont just be a drop in replacement.
  5. Years ago I saw a pic of a Superliner with a KW aerodyne bunk and it looked pretty cool as well. I think it looked period correct. Never been in a Aerodyne bunk so not sure if that was a good sleeper or not.
  6. did you check with Mack or PAI. ? Just a few years ago PAI was still advertising old Mack engine parts?
  7. the excuse I heard was the USA mechanical E9 was killed because of EPA crap. Now I see a electronic E9 built for over seas. I didn't know a electronic controlled Mack V8 was ever made?
  8. When we were sled pulling we dropped the air down to 20 psi for better traction. they never gave out on us with all the abuse. I was running my RS700L around the same just to reduce the bounce.
  9. I prefer the look of a flat top sleeper but will admit it sure is nice to be able to stand up in a bunk and have the room to move around in the morning.
  10. Go to the 8 min mark..... Bob Eckstine with his RL700L
  11. nice looking truck... It should be fairly easy and cheap to turn that into a 300. I think it may just be pump settings? possibly injectors?
  12. look at this page http://www.kingofsalvage.com/mack-b-model-hood-fender.html
  13. Seen that Superliner many times from the interstate. And yes that Yard was always full of junk.
  14. Guy on the facebook group "steel dash macks" is trying hard to sell this 66' DM600. looks like a 711 and a quad. Looks pretty good for its age Located in Chicago. someone offered $1500 and he said come get it. might be able to get it cheep? Trent
  15. Larry Its possible the "thump" you hear is normal? The Maxidynes had a "growl" to them. Hard to explain but their low end grunt often gave the truck a feel of its own.
  16. current title shows it as a 1978 R686. Was below freezing this weekend... not going to mess with it untill it gets warmer out.
  17. Your right... it happened around easter weekend just a few days after we spoke on the phone. I was in your area the Friday before Easter and stopped in the shop to tell you but you were out golfing. ..
  18. I agree The tanks look like they just need a sanding and they will buff out nicely. The bumper has to go though... The owner said he had been working it. Jacob said he has seen it hauling around town. Owner is getting up there in old age and starting to sell off his stuff.
  19. Nice looking tractor. What is the Cubic Yard of those short dump boxes? and anyone know what the legal Gross with that set up was back in 1965 vs today?
  20. With the help of "Jacob Moneymaker" I was able to secure this truck and picked it up last weekend near his home town in AR. Its a 1964 B75 sitting on a 1978 Mack R686 Frame. 285HP Tip turbine with a straight 5 speed 3.87's on 38k camelback Truck needs some new fenders and lots of TLC but it has some cool modifications. It has dual Breathers, one feeds the turbo the other feeds the charge cooler, R model Clutch pedal assy, R model steering column, Spring brakes, It had a cut out for a sit in sleeper and Im thinking about using my Double eagle 36" to put on the back of this. It has AC that was installed under the passenger seat but currently not working. The cab/Hood sits a few inches higher off the frame than a stock B75 and it gives it much better access to stuff under the truck. The double frame was cut to shorten the truck after the sleeper was removed. Depending what I do with it I may re stretch it and clean up the hack job that was done to it when it was shortens. The bumper is going. will likely find a more period correct steel bumper that can be painted. It came with 2 aluminum budd fronts but only one was installed. It has a nice padded interior but it will need to be copied as its showing its age. I was told this truck was semi Restored by a mack dealer and they did most of the modifications? Engine and trans feel Strong. Will need to get the fenders off this weekend to get a better look at it. It was a long 24hr day to get down pick it up and then drive back. I did get to meet Jacob and helped him get his 70's Reo cab over that he bought. Jacob took a quick Vid of the truck as I starting to load it up on the lowboy. Trent
  21. I saw that thing a few months ago. Looks like you're spending a lot of time down at your favorite scrap yard? LOL
  22. Im just not sold on those titans. They just dont look put together right. Im sure its a nice truck to drive but I think they should have taken more styling clues from across the pond and put it to work here. Just my .02
  23. if no one here can get you any pics let me know later in the week..A friend has a factory dual air cleaner Superliner near me and I could get some pics for you.
  24. I have worked every week thru winter with just a few days off for weather related or for helping out at my former job expexting my full time gig to be slow right now. Personally I would rather be taking a few weeks off this time of year as thats what I have done the last 13 years but we are busy just like summer time.
