  1. pumps normally are oil supplied by a oil line comming off the engine or simply splash lubracated. they simply drain back into the engines crank case thru the timing cover. no need to drain the oil from them when you remove it.
  2. Looksgreat...........Don't scratch it!
  3. Intresting. I always bumped up my idle when I was sleeping at night and needed A/C or heat. I would set it to about 700 or so....I also kept the fan on so it was always moving fresh air across the engine. It was more to keep oil press up a little higher...I keep the fan on also to keep it from cycling on/off every few minutes be it the water temp or A/C unit telling it to do so. This is a 3406E Cat
  4. that is really a cool structure. Lots of little details you wont see with plane old concrete. I wish some of these local abandon railroad tracks could be donated to the Illinois Railway Museum fto get them some more trackage for them to operate on. Im glad they save most of the right of ways with the use of them as bike trails but a cool old railway line that could serve a few towns for trips would be even more intresting.
  5. 1050 was max if I recall. From my experience Its common to see 800-900 on a good pull. 600 when cruising.
  6. My bad I did not see that link from my Phone. Then Yes I think Superdog shows period correct mud flaps for a B model.
  7. First tell us what year and model Mack he has and we can tell you what would go with said truck.
  8. that little stone cut out is likely 100 years old. stone bridges of any kind are rare.
  9. here is a nice 36" bunk. I attached a out side and interior photo for you
  10. Back your third trailer into the last. Then 2nd into the 3rd Then 1st into the 2nd..... Must not be a drop and hook operation lol....
  11. That's way low... My 285 will pull almost 30psi on a good pull... Some Simple things to check first would be looking for a boost leaks, filter clogged, charge cooler clogged, turbo fin damage. My 285 had low boost and high egt temps. I found that my turbo was bad. A crack in the turbos exhaust housing allowed it to melt the internal passage near the blades of the turbo. It was melted so bad that center section allowed The exhaust to bypass the exhaust fins thuss it was not building boost like it should have been.
  12. Ouch...sorry to hear that. Glad you were all good after the issue. Where did this happen at?
  13. I always loaded/unloaded equipment that can move on its own.
  14. I was able to visit with Norm and his wife about a month ago. I always made it a point to stop and see them during my once a year trip to California if our schedules permitted. Norm has thinned his collection but he always has some rare items at his yard. It was great to see they are still having fun with the old Mack's.
  15. That truck was in the movie but not as the main truck. They used a TATRA for the tanker truck and it was twin gas jobs both supercharged. Not even a belching diesel for the EPA certified wasteland ? The cab was buchered to hell to make it look "cool" I saw the movie a few Days ago and was not all that impressed with what should have been a great move 30 years in the making. The cars and trucks were way over done, No Mel Gibson, and the new Max was basicly a Squad leader for the 5 Cheerleaders that he was saving. I dont want to spoil the whole movie but the new Max does not cut it. he is way soft and talks to much. Just my .02
  16. I have also always did the 1-2-3 in low then go into direct 3-4-5. Gotta get your road speed up to make the shift out of low and most times 1st and 2nd are just to slow on anything besides pavement.
  17. Also ....who wants to go to a midwest show in the cold and wet season? I attended the con expo show in Vegas years back and was very impressed with the town, weather and the show. Let's face it. If your going to travel you might as well enjoy where your at not just what's inside the building.
  18. Great info as always. Maybe I missed it but do you know about the time that Mack left the rail market?
  19. You need to start your own thread dedicated to the brake downs you experimce...complete with date, time, miles, truck model, and final out come...
  20. I always said the same about the low sided Hilbilt I have. I looked heavy but never was. I could load it front to back up to the sides and still be a few thousand under and right on the money on axle weight.
  21. the trailer electrical cable starts on the driver side, out side fire wall at the electrical junction block. It then runs down to the frame where it joins in a bundle of air lines at the driver side frame rail. It runs along the driver side rail and exits at the rear of the cab. this is where its up to you. Most day cabs have the air/electrical lines located in the center of the deck plate just behind the cab near the pogo stick. sometimes it exits up and are mounted behind the cab more behind the drivers seat. I think this location is decided depending on what the truck will be used for and what other stuff was installed on the truck after it left the factory. Hope this helps. Truck is looking great by they way!
  22. 1900 no load.....you have the dreaded low rpm motor? You can have the pump recalibrated to a 2100 rpm spec and that should give you some more powere. I would have them bump up the fuel 10-15% at the same time.
  23. Blowby really can only come from a few places. 1. Bad/ broken/ worn piston or rings 2.bad valve guides 3.bad turbo center section 4 blown head gasket.( this would be more obvious) Might try a Leak down test with the valve covers off to see if it's leaking thru the head or thru the piston rings.
