  1. when you mount the sleeper do give proper clearance to the front of sleeper for the cab movement. the top of the cab will tip backwards over large bumps and overnight if the cab leveling valve leaks down. Make sure the membrane around the sleeper opening has proper flex to take up the cab movement. if you want to get really trick. I have seen photos of a guy and his R model that mounted a sleeper on long beams that extended and connected it to the cab floor. Then he added air bags to the back of the beams under the sleeper so that both the cab and sleeper was air suspended as one unit...
  2. you will have to mix and match it together unless you can get a Vin number off a R model with factory Dual stacks. Just be warned the sticker price from mack might kill you.at best print it off and use it as a guide to buy your own parts. seams most people with R models run a pipe upwards behind the cab/ between the frame rails, then tee it off to each side. It really depends where your exhaust hangers can mount tho so start there. sometimes the driver side center fuel tank strap/bracket is in the way. First get your hangers set up then you can see where the pipes will have to travel. I saw one guy able to squeeze pipes under the cab corners but it was very tight and looked like they hit the frame when the air ride cab moved . another option is to mount hangers to the cab. The old mack westerns did this and it worked but if you hit a tree branch with the stack it can damage the cab.
  3. I was planning on going to the show then forgot all about it.
  4. Im sure they get a lot better economy with those super singles! as in no flat tires driving in the scrap yard all day!
  5. C model trucks. Not the c model fire trucks What years were they built? And what model replaced it.?
  6. That truck has solid rubber spoke rears..I tried catching a shot of it last year. Kinda cool set up
  7. I was on I55 Northbound near I294 Off to the east I saw a Palumbo RM 6 wheeler...keep your eyes open
  8. condensation. If your vent is plugged the water will stay. Even if the vent is working if you live in a place with big temp swings it will happen.
  9. I figured an angle gate was so the gate did not get as close to the ground when raising the box and so when the box was down Gravity helped keep the door tight to the box? Never thought about a pup trailer behind you...
  10. not that I have heard of. there was a early version of the 6 speed that had direct and high on the 2nd stick. it only had one reverse gear as well. they are hard to find
  11. My rs700l has no helper springs. I have to grab the dog and lean back as far as I can to get the hood moving. Same when lowering have to go slow and give it a jerk right before it touches down so it don't slam it down on the cowl.
  12. Mack's early RD had a standard R model hood. Mack did a update to the RD line up in the early 90's. these later RD macks had a sloped hood. both were considered "R" models but the hoods were way different. You have the better looking of the two in my opinion
  13. Regarding the glad hand.....most trucks I tried to back fill have a check valve that will not allow back filling. Best way to fill a truck with air is right to the wet tank. That way it fills both air brake systems.
  14. I fire them up and let them idle until I leave the yard. My thought is Cold oil needs to thin out to better get into all the parts of the motor. I always wondered why some generators would go to 2100 rpm high idle right from a cold start. That can't be good on bearings
  15. personally I dislike the looks of the euro trucks. they don't look like the trucks I saw as a kid and they all share similar styling. I like the big hoods and bunks of the 80's and 90's. I don't think I would enjoy driving a box with a speed limiter or 55MPH! but that's just me LOL Im sure they have more advanced engineering than U.S Truck Mfg but I still like the somewhat simplicity of the few U.S brands. The U.S has very little hold on much anything anymore and This seams like another slip in the knot towards U.S truck brands being all but forgotten.
  16. Not bad for a old natural aspirated diesel.
  17. It must haul something heavy for having 4 axels is such a short wheel base?
  18. How is the old dog doing....looks like you have been busy with some truck shows?
  19. those are great looking Macks. I wish we still had these kinds of Macks over here.
  20. Congrats.....that's quite an accomplishment !
  21. Sounds good Joe. I head down sat morning should be there about 9 am and will be staying the night. I just talked to the guys and they got it set up pretty good. Dirt is there and we have indoor and out door areas to work in in case the weather is not good. I think we will have a good mix of show trucks , dump trucks and construction equipment http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=8723&page=2
  22. Reminder...the R/C truck and construction show is this weekend And just in time , here is a new addition to my fleet
  23. Your only breaking the law IF you get cought. Drive the truck and pull over when tired. That's what I did for the 13 years I did otr. I think they should go back to 10 on 8 off and have something like a mandatory 3 day home period after 2 weeks out..but that's just me.
