  1. Tilted kilt....chain restaurant We have a new one in town called twin peaks...if you like big boobs and talent this is the place. it knocks the local hooters and TK establishments out of the park.
  2. Job is great so far. Its only been 2 weeks but so far its Better pay, home every night. Dont feel over worked. I enjoy the pace and truck rides nice. I was afraid my back would be killing me in the r model but not even a hint of back pain. Have no one looking over me like i was when at the race shop...just do the job.do it right and go home. I Load early, make 2-4 moves a day and sometimes finish as early as 1-2 pm. Only thing I don't like is moves into the old parts of the city with the small narrow streets. Had to make a hard right onto this neighborhood street. Block the road,Pick up the case cx210 and go via a permit route. Put me right down a street with a moving truck double parked. Luckily they were almost done...only waited 10mins for them... I Also don't enjoy the traffic near the loop. today was my first day I spent going up and down I-55 . 4 moves total. Started at 5am finished by 4pm . Traffic the whole day on I-55 and I-94 But Monday I get another nice and easy western il trip. Head out west empty and load a D7 to bring back. Will take me about 6 hrs...if I time it right I may get to make a quick 2nd move for the day.
  3. Moved some different stuff this week.. Cat 140m out to western IL komatsu 650 I moved the counter weight, bucket and the catwalk...Just That was almost 70k gross. The 8 axel moved the machine minus the stick. We moved it a few miles west of the city... Canadian national freight train on the old EJ&E line palumbo lowboy truck Rumor is they have had issues with the latest Mack's they bought..They parked many of them and brought back out the old rd Mack's. They have a new International lowboy truck they are using because of the troubles with Mack. Anyone from Mack HQ reading this....wake up! It's one of the last big Chicago Mack fleets....
  4. Looking good...nice to see another duck truck in the making!
  5. It's not the seat...LOL I keep the seat far back and upright...my knees still hit the AC box and the window crank handel...and I'm only 5'10"
  6. The passenger side door hinge should prevent this.. It has a stop that limits door travel... I thought the stop was just welded in? May have broke louse? The vent window will still hit the cleaner even with the stop present. Some with twin breathers had this stop on both doors. Made it a real pita to get stuff in and out of the cab!
  7. If it has an under good air cleaner it likely is just a tube to grab clean cool air vs under hood or air.? Did v8 superliners have under hood air cleaners? All the ones I see had the optional external filter(s)
  8. Yea grade 8 when wet is almost like 1/2 dried concrete that's why I was wondering. And the locking jaws better be good to hold the weight of stone...I have never had to unload they a Shute...just wondering.
  9. Guess you better stop in wells NV ....stop and pet the horses at donnas ranch! Lol
  10. Does the stone flow pretty freely outbthe coal shute or does it jam up a lot?
  11. It happens when you have a stuck load or you forgot to open the tailgate. You back up,stab the brakes and if you do it to fast it sits down on its end,and pulls the tractors rears off the ground. Hopefully it comes to rest upright. That's the easy part...trying to get it back down without rolling it I don't know...haven't done it yet.
  12. I hope you are writing a book on mack because all these wealth of knowledge and pictures is very interesting. I also can tell you care for the brand and like me are sad to see what it has become under Volvo ownership.
  13. On a side note...a frameless or 1/4 frame dump trailer has less chance of flipping the tractor over if it goes over. Frame trailers tend to pull the tractor over or damage the frame of the truck... The bad part of a frameless is that all the weight of the trailer goes to the rear axel when dumping. If the ground is soft you have to be real careful. 1/4 frames are much more stable on soft ground. Not sure if it's still true with todays new dumps...but a frameless could raise higher and thus the load would not get stuck in the nose as easy as a 1/4 frame or frame dump...if you ever watch a frameless raise up you will see that some of them will have the spread pan nearly touch the ground and the front axel will be over the tractors rear rear axle. Have seen a few guys set the back of the trailer flat on the ground...aka "rocket man! "
  14. Makes you wonder .....what if he had jumped on d day? Would you be here today?
  15. Yep married life is going as planned. And yes lack of home time or time off was becoming a big issue for me. I worked for Carl Haas auto imports, Carl was co owner of Newman/Haas racing. Both companies are in the same building in Lincolnshire IL. We raced and sold cart, champcar and indy cars depending on the year. I was hired to drive the Haas auto truck but over my 13 years there I found myself also pulling the race cars to the tracks all over north America. At our prime we had 5 semi trucks, 5 featherlight transport trailers, 1 straight truck,1 hot shot with a 40' 3 axel trailer. I drove them all, when I worked race events I would do the sign board on the front straight, rebuild dampers, sell parts... I did it all. Newman haas racing did not compete the last 2 years as newmans death and carls poor health kinda put a hurt on finding sponsorship for the race team. NHR layed off about 20 people last year and many left on their own after they saw the writing on the wall. Today there is 5 people left on the shop floor. There were 40 in their prime. Carl haas auto imports has been gaining work as we were always selling parts and looking for new business. We have 5 people plus some shared accounting staff. It was fun but the pay, home time and time invested were worlds apart. As I said...it's just an end of an era.
  16. What happen to your ch?
  17. My grandfather was to jump behind enemy lines near Normandy and cut of the Germans from reinforcing the beach. He cought the flu a week before d day. Unknown to him att he time that that may have been his true destiny. Instead he was sick in England and ended up helping out as a medic. I have all his old photos of gliders and other war birds that we're getting ready for the invasion. I have so much respect for his generation...
  18. The truck does good for its size. Gets in and out of tight spots easy. Long hoods are cool until your in a tight spot. It is one of the best riding trucks I have been in wich is odd for a short wheelbase Mack.
  19. Last Friday I ended my 13 year career in auto racing. It was a hard choice but lack of time home in the summer and poor wages vs time invested made it clear it was time to move on if an agreement could not be meet. After a few weeks back and fourth an no head way made I gave notice. Kinda sad how it all went down but it is what it is.. I am now working full time with the Tanzillo family. They do some excavating and lots of low boy work. My main job is driving truck #35. 400 with an 8LL on 44k air ride. She does pretty good for a small truck. Easy to get around town in and no big blind spots. Feel right at home in the old R model.
  20. Only if it was not looked after properly...does the steel parts of the truck have bad rust? Is the frame pitted badly around any steel parts bolted to the frame?
  21. Need to see pics, sounds like a western hood or Heavy duty R model hood...
  22. Hold on....steel and your trying to polish it? That will be very hard to do..besides a machined finish I have never seen mirror finished steel or anyone try to polish steel......most shiny diamond plate is aluminum. You need a buffer and cutting wheels And it is a pita to get all the tarnish out of it...
  23. Milwaukee has the Harley Davidson museum...thats a cool place if your into bikes. Few truck junk yards just north of the il border on the east side of 94 Other than that it's just farms and cheese....lol!
  24. Shameless plug.. I had to relocate a buddy's storage trailer today...snapped a quick pic...
