  1. Yea the 300+ was not a maxidyne. Needed more then 5 gears to keep it In the middle rpm range. The 300 was a maxidyne.

  3. If you were offered a job for 30 days where you get paid 1 penny for your first day, your wage will double every day, and you're fired on the 30th day... simple question......Would you take the job?

  5. put my cab on the same way. board with a blanket wraped around it. worked great!
  6. "Here's the back story, we’re told that shortly after Crumb and Get It told Biden’s advance people 'no' -- the secret service walked in and told Chris McMurray ''Thanks for standing up and saying 'no' -- then they bought a whole bunch of cookies and cupcakes." Classic!
  7. ok here is a question while on topic of the tip turbines....Why was it that some 285's only had the air charge cooler and others had the air/water charge cooler? My truck is air only but have seen other 285s with the air and water set up? I thought that the 285 was air only and the 300+ was both air and water? what does it take to convert a 285 to a 300+ Is it as simple as a charge cooler and pump setting change? im putting in the 12 speed soon and have a water/air cooler. It would be cool to convert it over to a 300+ if its not much trouble.
  8. Wires on the turbo? Does not compute.....oh man these electronic diesels!
  9. When will people of California burn their state to the ground and start over? It's time.....
  10. Yea I wish I had the 300+ in my RS. those engines just loved to pull. On paper they had less TQ than a maxidyne but they out pulled them. 1400-1800 rpm shifting that turbo and turbine just kept screaming...
  11. Yep.. Lots of lost Mack sales because of them not thinking like the customers needs. A friend has one of the last rd glider and is one of his best in the fleet..hope that new Mack does well for you . If not you may need a new sticker for it.
  12. Someone posted pics of a underhood shot years back.. Can't recall what thread it was on tho..
  13. First truck I drove was a rs700l with a 285 and a hood scoop. If I recall there was a big can with a filter in it that was sitting to the side of the turbine. When the hood was shut the filter would draw air in from the scoop. It was in my opinion a cheep way to get the result and cluttered the engine. The scoop did look cool tho...rare to see them these days...
  14. Love it... How's that new Mack doing ....troubles sorted out...
  15. This is the truth...don't count on the DMV to give you the correct advice with old trucks.. Im in IL and the guy at the DMV looked at me like I had 3 heads when I said I wanted historic tags for my 1977 Mack. I had to explain to him that IL state law does not specifically limit what kind of car, truck, motorcycle, bus, etc...can or cannot be tagged as a historic. It simply states in has to be older than 25 years, only used in shows or driven to shop for repairs...some states have slightly different laws so check what is required in your home state...for insurance I use gulf way in Florida. They insure racing, historics, and other odd ball stuff...welcome to the site.. Edit I see you already found the info....can you not just plate your truck first then apply for a class c license? I think it's just a written test for a class c?
  16. Late 70's early80s...with 285 tip turbine Mack diesels. The went away with the introduction of the dual outlet air cleaner.
  17. Sounds about the same as I get with a 285 and 6 speed direct w/4.17 rears. My buddy had a 89 R model with a Mack 350 and a 9 speed Mack with rears that could get you to 85 mph in top gear...would cruise at 65 mph at 1500-1600 rpm and thats the speed we were most at. His truck was getting 6.3-6.5 on the hi way with a gross of about 65k and 5.75 with 75k.. This was a run we did from Chicago to L.I.N.Y and back...
  18. The only problem I had was that after a year some of the cracks showed back up. They are hairline cracks and any dirt will get into it. But for $30 worth of paint it sure looks better than before...its one of those things that made the truck stand out better than the rest.
  19. I had my brown wheel painted white... Came out good too. Just fill in any cracks as best you can with steering wheel repair epoxy And hope it don't spread.
  20. I think the problem is that a 237 has 900ftlbs of tq where the old 673 or 711 had under 700ftlbs tq. The quad was rated to mid 700 ftlbs if I recall? It will work for a hobby truck and many did it back in the day but it will be at its limits, the genral thought was if done drive it like you own it...
  21. I just want to know how the duck was able to hit the floor so quick when Lyle started shooting at him. I mean both doors were closed , air in the seat , big white western steering wheel, and the cameraman was sitting shotgun...wtf?
  22. Always wondered what kind of bracket is used to mount an air cleaner on the left hand cab of a r model. All the super liners I saw had a stainless bracket that looked like it bolted to a flat steel plate ... But super liners had a different cowl and this seamed easy. How about some pics from the guys down under of the inside and outside of the cab ??
  23. sorry to hear of the troubles Dan. I was kinda suprised to see you buy one of the early 2000 macks as even you had commented before that they had issues. The truck looks great I just hope you did not get one that is a basket case. I looked under the hood of some othe these new macks and I can only imagine what it takes to work on them. i thought the engines in the R models were tight...not!!! keep us posted!
