  1. if you think the harness was the issue I can contact a person that may be able to make a custome harness for you. He is a friend that made all the diffrent coustome harnesses on Indy Race cars. many times the wires are ok but the style plugs that were the issue. a bad plug lets in water, dirt etc... just let me know...
  2. Yea the Mack jake brakes were a joke. Glad these hold back better. What's the specs?
  3. Trucks always seam to basket cases.. My RS was in known rough shape so I expected the worse. But that's why they are hobby trucks.
  4. Looking good how does it do in the woods?
  5. What is the standard off set for a budd rim... I want alum front budds and see there are different offsets. Currently I have steel budds and want to make sure I keep them all the same offsets
  6. For today's trucks I like the classic long hoods. Pete kw....they are the only ones left that make a product that looks truckly. For old school I would take a auto car.
  7. I don't think you will be happy with the road speed even after a double over quad box is installed. Your rear end is way slow. For example A 5.73 rear end with a double over quad will get you to about 63 mph at 2100 rpm. Thats kinda slow with a fast rpm. If your just trucking to shows or under 60k gross weight,Your maxidyne would love a 3.86 rear and a 5 speed. Not only will you get highway road speeds but better mpg and less shifting. Just my .02 Will a early 70s diff not drop in your housing???
  8. whoa! thank god... he responded correctly in this situtation
  9. Go in at night...
  10. Ray hows the MPG without the stacks....it looks so bare without them!!!!!! LOL
  11. yea we rolled it over to the factory setting of 19* BTDC. yes we are assuming the timing was at stock and never adjusted, We backed off the 4 bolts that hold the pump to the gear. Held the pump still with a wrench while we barred the engine back to 25* BTDC. then locked the 4 bolts back down. and put the timing cover back on. here is the pull we did last Friday. She ran a little better and the RPMs did not drop as much when under full load. we made a full pull, 309' !! http://youtu.be/rPbOCN1aDDg
  12. what did I miss???? Trent
  13. Pig pen......
  14. wow! good find....whats the plans for it?
  15. Yep They have some of the best "fast food" Pizza in Chicagoland. And whats best is you can eat on the south side or out in the far NW burbs and it still tastes the same! Keep me posted! FYI sled pulls are tomorrow night at Lake County IL Trent
  16. Rob I am pretty much traveling every other week untill the end of September. just let me know when you think you will be up this way. Weekends or week nights are best for me. Trent
  17. Ok think I got it done last night. I was able to bar the engine over to the factory 19* BTDC.( Pointer on the 19* mark on the damper) I then had a friend put a wrench on the pump nut, we marked a refrence location with a scribe. I then slowly bared the engine to 25*BTDC and locked the pump back down.
  18. now that was Some Funny stuff right there... "sign up today and you get a Chain drive wallet" LMAO... "you should start with a volvo or a Freightliner and be someones dog"
  19. thanks for the into guys I have been so busy that I have not had time to make up a tool. One question I forgot to ask. Does the pump (when engnie running) turn in the same rotation as the engine?
  20. What I laugh at is that I see more truck fires nowadays than ever before... just this last trip to canada I saw 2 trucks torched to the ground. last trip to Long Island one truck up in flames. I also see more trucks rode off into cornfields. last 2 trips I saw about 5 trucks parked or on their sides. makes me wonder how hard these green drivers push themselves to make beer money and fall asleep at the wheel. Sad!
  21. I always thought the 5 speed was easy and the eaton fullers were hard to shift. The macks altho rough around the edges had a positive feel to them when they were going into gear or not going. the eaton fullers will only go into gear if timed correctly of scratch/bang into gear if you were off. I would rather feel the scratch and not go in than it fall in with a bang!
  22. With 4.17 rears .....1st and 2nd are slow ...3rd about 27 mph.4th about 40 In 5 th you max out at 62 mph at 2100 rpm. This is aprox numbers. you have to use the whole rpm range of the engine...rev it out and shift at 2000-2100 and it will fall back to 1200-1300 rpm when you grab the next higher gear. The 5 speed has wide splits but is easy to drive with limited shifts needed..
  23. The 8 LL is eaton??. It's not as strong as a Mack 12 but the splits are wide and the 300 maxidynes loves that.
  24. You have a 5 speed that is direct in 5th. You need an over drive trans. Look for an 8LL or a Mack 12 speed. Both have wide splits for the maxidynes torque curve and a over drive that can get you home in a hurry. That's my .02
  25. Thanks very much for this info. It sounds fairly easy after you have a tool made up. I will get some pics when I have it set up to make sure I'm doing it right...its great to have people such as you with this kind of knowledge on this site. Can't get that kind of help in a book. Trent
