  1. is this the 3 leaf ? if so those shocks get over extended in the off road. we put 2 sets on a truck and within a month both ripped apart. simply to short of travel. yes you can run without the dampers. if you bob tail you may notice a little more of a bounce. when loaded those dampers have little affect on ride quality. I put a camelback shock on my shock dyno at work and it had about the same resistance of a damper found on a car. that tells me it will do very little to control the bounce in spring ride. just my .02
  2. Good vid vinny... I would suggest you give her some throttel when you first crank her over on cold starts. just give it half pedal, crank it and when she lites off just hold it to 800 RPM for a little bit untill she stops shacking... other wise they will sputter and some times die out. same thing when its real real cold out. Hold that pedal to the floor when cranking. you need the heat to get them going. Trent
  3. scaled 79,000 with wet clay in a1987 RD688 with a 350 and 6 speed. It was a worn mack dedecated to site truck work only. Could not get any more in the box. clay was fallin goff the cab gaurd onto the hood and off the sides and back. Drove like a caddy with the 44k rears and 20K front. Most I ever pulled with my RS700L was a cat 973 on a tri axel low boy. I figure 90-100K gross...my Truck has a 12K front and 34k rears..also rode like a caddy!.
  4. on small error and your done faster than it took to read this sentence...
  5. I see the MRs mostly as Postal trucks and garbage trucks. some of the late model postal trucks had air ride rears. Seen a few roll off trucks, concret pumpers and just a few years ago I saw a guy running one as tractor trailer 5 axel 18 wheel a Dump truck. that was kinda cool to see..but I can only imagine how many times he hit his head on the roof of that cab running it in the off road.!
  6. Hell I was just born in 1979....opps...sorry
  7. I think Robs has a family member that works for Cat?
  8. from what im told if you have a maxidyne and want to put it into a B model you need all the front pullys from the B model engine and put them on the maxidyne. the water pump may just swap onto the maxidyne. this is to get the pullys up as close to the engine as you can as there is little space between the rad and block. Never done it but so im told...
  9. im sure a E9 can be shoe horned into a R model. Heck they were able to get the Early V8s into the U model and c model macks. But do you want to go thru the trouble when you can get one in a R700 or better yet a RS700L or Superliner with less headaches. I always thought the R600s were tight even with the 6 cyl. not just the motor but all the other stuff under the hood was placed in some spots that was a nightmare to get to. The superliner and RS700s cabs sat up higher and gave even more space to work on. IMO The R600s were better suited for tight spots and standard power. If this is a working truck and you do all the work on it I think you would like having more space under the hood...just my.02
  10. yep R models are the work horse and they are mostly sold for export now. Superliners have had high dollar and dont seam to export as easily as they are priced a little to high. but that will change when they really want to sell the truck.
  11. looks early 80s.. heres my .02 If the cab is good and just needs paint, engine is good with no problems, straight single frame with no rust or double with no spreading, I would say around 3500-5k but thats just me. I know others will pay more and the exporters will pay as high as 7-9k I bought my 1978 RS700L for 3k and drove it home from KC Mo to Chicago IL..all it needed was paint, tires, and lots of little genral maintance.Biggest issue was the cab had rust around the rain rail but I fixed that with a new roof skin. 12. Rob as of right now I will be trucking out to Long Beach April 7th and will be returning with the truck the following weekend. As of right now I will be solo for that trip. Then if all goes well I will be heading out to northern CA in May. yet to be decided if im solo on that trip but I can surely bring tools out for sure... if it helps? will know more end of April if I am solo.... do you have any plans set in stone yet?
  13. little common sence gets you along way...
  14. ask member mhe9....he is a great person to deal with....
  15. thats whats odd I did not see a crane or a truck ahead of me...but that really was not the important issue when I was trying to dodge it and the cars! may have been on a service truck or pick up truck?
  16. I was on my way back from St Pete driving along thru Lousiville Ky around rush hour yesterday (5pm) traffic was heavy in the right lanes so I moved over to the far Left to get away from all the merging/exiting traffic and the known right lane back up that happens near the bridge a mile ahead. I come around a slight bend in the road and I see something rolling down the slow lane at a high rate of speed. cars jumping lanes and almost hitting the wall. this thing was about 2 1/2' in diamiter with a big hook on it. did not have time to stop or really do anything but after I passed it I really did not want to stop! hope no one was hurt. I did call 911 and let them know about the hazzard. if I was behind it I would have followd it untill it came to rest safely and attempt to keep it out of harms way. I saw one car almost nail it but grandma still had some driving skills thank god! Trent
  17. is it air operated? if so is the switch leaking air or not exhausting air? the shaft the the idle gear spins on could be bad letting the gear make light contact?
  18. Just throwing this out there... The PP box will give you plenty of power but I think there are better and safer ways to get bigger HP. alot of the guys over at the diesel garage talk about this and you may want to check out some of the discussions over there.as for the macks they just dont have the power upgrades like cat, cummins and detroit. little demand for them even tho they could use the help? Trent
  19. I bet you smile every time you tell people that LOL!!!!
  20. went thru there today but Think the show was already over..I always miss it by a few days.
  21. Aj....that surly does not sound like a vacation I would want to have. Hopefully the " head nurse". Will look after you!!... Ben. That travel trailer sounds fun..southern st Pete had these places on the beach that campers could park on for the day..looked like a great way to relax. Mark..thanks buddy..33 years on my way to hell...LOL.
  22. Tuff looking old dog...pure buisness right there.. If I recall correctly you can put an air shift cover on a 2 stick 6 speed trans. all the air shift did was operate the aux part of the box. I have never done it but have heard many talk about it. lots of people did this stick to air conversion with the 2 stick 12 speeds as well. also note there were more than 1 model of a 6 speed. later model T2060 had overdrive and diffrent gearing than that of a older TRDL1076 hope that helps Trent
  23. I think I saw that blue Shaker at a show in Joplin a few years back?
  24. Saw this one in wildwood FL last week.
