  1. seen a few. mostly on the early R chassis with a 237 or 285. have to relocate the batt boxes. and if I recall move the fuel tanks forward
  2. Think I made a deal on one for $2700. Guy had it rebuilt 6 years ago at a cost of $3600 and just has it sitting on the floor as a spare. he had 2 trucks with a 12 speeds. All its missing is the stick shift. I will be out to pick it up in July and the only think to inspect will be to see if it has the rear splined countershaft for a Mack PTO. we will see... Trent
  3. here ya go Vinny http://www.flickr.co...oux/4473291946/ http://www.flickr.co...oux/4518363842/ http://www.google.co...29,r:2,s:0,i:71
  4. thats more my ballpark range as its just a hobby truck. I see a bunch of take outs for around $2500. anything that involved labor and parts is $2800-$3500 depending what was done to it. Right now Im just price shopping around the net as I have no hurry. This will be my summer project. Made a few offers on one for 2k so will see in anyone bites. Knowing my luck I would buy one for 3k and 2 weeks later there will be one up for sale for $1500. I contacted Phil at Global truck traders and he shot me a good price one... May have to sweet talk the girl friend into takeing some pics to help sweaten the deal !!! LOL Trent
  5. Need that overdrive to get to these truck shows faster! looking for a used 12 speed with topcover and splined lower counter shaft so I can bolt in my rear mount Mack PTO. I saw them listed on Ebay, Rebuilt with new bearings, clutch pack etc... for $3250 with an exchange. littly pricey so looking for options. Thanks Trent
  6. my biggest complaint is the electronic 350s just felt slow. they ride nice and can get in and out of tight spots but they just felt like they had no power when compaired to a mechanical. They lasted forever some over a million miles. I dont recall any problems like the mid 200X CH macks had. to me they are mostly fleet spec trucks but they did the job well and all day long.
  7. was the U model ever Exported to places such as australia or other RHD countries? Thought that would be a little rare but ???
  8. I know that rig!!! looks good too!
  9. My girl just cought me reading this thread......................Thanks guys
  10. I just Texted him...He has been busy working. Hope to chat with him tonight about his RL700L out in NV
  11. 1997 IH 380,000 miles on the 3rd set and this last set has lasted about 6 years and still going. they are mfg by "workhorse" amazing! truck has no fridge or T.V. etc... just start and drive it
  12. Hmmm.. I will call him today. We need to plan out a trip out to get his RL700L back in the next upcoming week.
  13. well my 6 speed direct with 4.17 will do 61-62 mph at 2100. I would say 3.65's would get you to about 71mph..
  14. or his cab leveling valve has a misplaced hose. if your cab raised up when you plug the hose. that tells me your cab air ride set up is in need of repair
  15. Not checked in for the last 10 days? WTF happend?
  16. My grandfather Ralph Ostrom passed away early this morning. He was in his early 90's and my #1 role model. Born in the great depression , married at age 19 before he shipped off to fight in WWII . Rode the HMS Queen Marry to war when it was a troop transport. He was a U.S. army Medic who served in England and Alaska. Missed the Normandy landing by dumb luck of catching the flu. He later returned and continued his job of operating a small family machine shop in Chicago. He started with little to nothing and made a successful all American business. He always provided for his family and made sure we all had a good life. He was a true American hero who made his own dreams come true without hand outs. He was sickened by how this once prosperous country has fallen into greed and political failure. Felt we left to many idiots at the controls and let them sell us down a river. I Just wonder about all he has seen thru his eyes and how much has changed in his 90 + years on this earth. Sadly I will just never fully understand life as he knew it but think he is right when he said the each new generation will never know how good life really could be if we just slowed down and looked around every now and then. I saw him last Sunday afternoon before leaving on business and on one of his final days could still give a firm handshake and look you in the eye. He will forever be missed but never forgotten R.I.P
  17. Mack has made some good attempts to gain sales but only in the fleet markets. A moder day superliner would be the ticket... just like a some of the retro cars we see today camero, charger etc..I ave said it for years that mack needs a large truck for the otr and HD market. the Titan is a flop in my opinion. To big of a truck for a standard big hp OTR...just look at price tag. oh and no sleeper options? FAIL! Mack just needs to bring out a long flat hood big 500-600HP truck that can fit in with the crowd. start there and build from it. Bigger is not always better.
  18. I wish it was just that easy...sadly its not ...vinny don't get any ideas
  19. happy birthday.....!!!!!!!
  20. what I found was that the shocks are nothing more than a over sized version of a street car shock. I dont know if I still have the dyno graph but I recall it had little bump control and lots of rebound control. (standard for a street shock) this is all relitive to the speed it moves at. In the low speed movement it had as much resistance as a car. thats not going to do much on an axel that sees 10x the weight. Yes, any damping is better than nothing but I suspect the damper is simply to soft to control such a stiff spring and tire. the best way to improve ride comfort would be to install a longer parabolic spring with less leafs, , and a damper that better controls how fast the spring can flex. this is what they are doing on the fancy over the road trucks. I wont even go into air ride front axels as they are even softer and ride better.
  21. is this the 3 leaf ? if so those shocks get over extended in the off road. we put 2 sets on a truck and within a month both ripped apart. simply to short of travel. yes you can run without the dampers. if you bob tail you may notice a little more of a bounce. when loaded those dampers have little affect on ride quality. I put a camelback shock on my shock dyno at work and it had about the same resistance of a damper found on a car. that tells me it will do very little to control the bounce in spring ride. just my .02
  22. Good vid vinny... I would suggest you give her some throttel when you first crank her over on cold starts. just give it half pedal, crank it and when she lites off just hold it to 800 RPM for a little bit untill she stops shacking... other wise they will sputter and some times die out. same thing when its real real cold out. Hold that pedal to the floor when cranking. you need the heat to get them going. Trent
  23. scaled 79,000 with wet clay in a1987 RD688 with a 350 and 6 speed. It was a worn mack dedecated to site truck work only. Could not get any more in the box. clay was fallin goff the cab gaurd onto the hood and off the sides and back. Drove like a caddy with the 44k rears and 20K front. Most I ever pulled with my RS700L was a cat 973 on a tri axel low boy. I figure 90-100K gross...my Truck has a 12K front and 34k rears..also rode like a caddy!.
  24. on small error and your done faster than it took to read this sentence...
