  1. hmm..did he by chance sell you the old 8.5" muffler clamps for the older R models? sounds like your band clamps are way to small... the other thing I was thinking is if your brackets were modified when you had the 6" stacks installed. Reason I say this is when I put straights on my B model I used a mid 90s R model exhaust Hanger, I had to cut the "wings" off the square tube to clean the look up. If I recall the "wings" on the square tube are angled to help cradle the muffler? if those were modified it will give you the gaps between the clamp and square tubes.
  2. Looks like a solid work truck!...what's the specs on her Welcome to the site.
  3. I just put mufflers on a superliner and I recall they were 9"??? Anyways the clamps gave aprox 1" gap either side of the square tube. However this was kinda hidden from the front view with the heat shield mounted. You could see the clamps from the rear tho.. if you. Have shields maybe just make longer clamps??
  4. OH NO HE DIDENT....LOOK OUT THREAD DERAIL!
  5. It sucks to see them leave but just think in 20 years we hopefully see pics of them still working. I hear that in Africa and south America they can still get parts for them? That and the older macks are just fool proof to work on..no electronics. No air bags just a tuff old work horse. I hear that they are buying a lot more ch macks now that a lot of the r models are gone...I know that a lot of these trucks sell for 6k-7k. That's a lot more than most of us would or could pay for a hobby truck. Hell I bought my RS700L for 3k in 2005. The export cost is also not that much. So we can't afford them. Most drivers here don't like the small cab old truck. The 3rd world drivers want them and like them. .
  6. Wonder if you could buy the aussi ECU and just plug it in?
  7. Dont you love it when your day goes as planned!!! Here in IL they got rid of the dynos as all these new cars are alot lower and the bodywork is to close to the wheels. I had a 97 Honda Civic track day car with lowered suspension. went in to the emissions and they wanted me on the dyno. I said it will not clear the rollers as they had this wierd hood that covered part of the rollers. the kid drove it up on the rollers and it bottomed out. Cracked my front bumper and side skirts. I had my camera, took pics and a month later ended up with a nice $1600 check. needless to say my car also passed! I had to have my Rmodel tested about 5 years ago. Its kinda known in the aera and the shop I took it to warned me about the snap test. they know I have the fuel turned up to it. it passed but it was just a visual snap test and they looked the other way...
  8. What if I recieved positive rep points that I did not deserve? can I trade them for negitive points? LOL
  9. Got any more pics of your Great looking Superliner? I think thats the first pic I have seen of it. what are its specs?looks well taken care of..
  10. if I understand this question he is saying the inlet lets in alot of dirt and collects in the bottom of the can, There are a few products that help sift the dust out before it enters the filter housing. Its called a pre cleaner. It lets in air but makes it travel in a rotated path, as the air moves around it forces dirt to drop out and fall into a collector that can be emptied out when you see it full. Lots of construction machines have them. also stop following that guy that is driving in front of you. I often see guys following each other to close and the guy behind the lead truck is sucking in all that kicked up dust and dirt!.. stay back in the clean air!! pre cleaner image http://www.google.co...=1t:429,r:9,s:0
  11. First thing I look for when I have bad MPG is what is my Boost vs EGT readings. Its a good indacation how your air fuel ratio is doing and if your down on power. Restricted fuel flow does not really hurt MPG. Restricted air will reduce power. If you have low boost you have a leak or clogged fuel filters. low EGT tells me it is not getting the fuel it needs. besides that winter blend fuel will reduce your MPG.
  12. Great looking Superliner. Just a little TLC and it will stand out for sure! what is the wheel base? Looks like its around 230"? My RS had a 36" sleeper when new. it has a 206" WB ...kinda short for my liking if it still had a sleeper..
  13. Did they ever decide to build the Big HP Maxidyne? think it was a 550 or 605 HP? saw it displayed at the Con expo show years ago...Would love to see how that would run or even better put with a newly designed 12 speed! Trent
  14. Welcome to the site. Cant help with the newer mack stuff... try posting this question in the Modern truck section or in the genral discussion section..more people will see it Trent
  15. Try Grandrock.
  16. thats good to hear I last ran in in April and they gave me a whole 3/4 of a right lane to try and snake up the hill. was kinda scary with the heavy traffic, concrete walls and a1 million dollar trailer behind me.
  17. yep...a lot of in and out...Seen r model fuel tanks with worn down steps.
  18. nice truck there Love the long hoods! Greco Const out of mt Prospect IL (Chicagoland) had 2 just like that used for their low boy trucks. V8mack 6 speeds 4.17 rears,Budd front spoked rears small fuel tanks. they were red with blue stripes. Both had rod and main troubles but were fixed. they also had bad cab mounts at the rear as the bad roads. the interior floor beam was bent upwards! just beat the hell out of them. they were up for sale for 10K each about 5 years ago. heard they went to Africa?
  19. looking good. all you need is some nice stainless fenders and dont forget about some old school Mack mudflaps
  20. if you can get that load of wood with it... you could sell the wood off and it would likely pay for the whole truck!!!! not a bad deal if your local..
  21. that was why mack built the rear mount PTO... so that you could spread and did not have to take the aux out of gear .you just turned the pto On then raised the box. the only thing I did like better with the side mount was that it did raise the box faster if you had light loads such as snow or broken concrete. just grab 4th and she went up fast. But as you said the rear mount gave you better overall options. just my .02
  22. Bullhead.....Now thats a heavy haul Titan , it looks like a HD truck and has a sleeper for todays standards. WHY CANT MACK SEE WHAT PEOPLE WANT IN A TRUCK THESE DAYS??? there is nothing bad with a small sleeper but just look around. how many small bunks do you see. not many... that mack cab already has all the rear wall provisions for sleepers yet mack ignores what all the other heavy haul truck Mfg seam to be selling. when was the last time you saw a convoy of 100' windmills pulled by day cabs with a 36" bunk??? thats right never!.... And do we think a driver wants to sit in his seat when he has to take a piss while he is waiting for the wind storm to pass? where does he go to relax when he is stuck on the on ramp for 5hrs?
  23. congrats on the new truck... The CH is a workhorse those on off valves are rare on the new trucks but you will love them when its time to replace a heater hose, air compressor, or have to make a repair to the water system. keeps the water in the engine and you can just drain off the part of the system your working on. When i bought my RS700L It was middle of Febuary and the heater motor was not working.I had to drive from KC to Chicago. I made it to The Iowa 80 and then just could not stand the cold anmore. I pulled in to the truck stop to buy some allagator clips so I could hot wire the blower motor. Man I wished I would have done that 4 hrs before LOL!!!! I could feel my toes again
  24. whats the trip for? new sled puller?
  25. I know of 2 mid 70s RL700L that had the big bad V8 with 6 speeds, sister trucks. both needed rods and mains every 150K. it was a known issue with them. think they were sold at the 300K mark and were on there 2nd set of crank bearings. Just my opinion here but....the stock engine is fine for what it is but if you want more power and still be safe source a E9 and you will be better off.... you will likelybe able to rebuild the E9 cheeper and have more power than the older V8. If price is the issue dont over look the E7 mechinicals. you will louse the V8 bragging rights but its a strong puller and has the torque you need.
