  1. never worked around the Medium duty macks. I thought they all had Renault engines in them???? just rebadged as a mack?
  2. There was a program that really made the electronics rub good but the epa put the axe to it. Last I heard was it was almost impossible to get..
  3. funny how one group says they rose while the other said they declined... you keep all your HOS rules for the .20Cent per mile" professional drivers" and I will just drive my truck they way real truck drivers do. End of story
  4. FAIL!
  5. This should be in the VIP section... That way a much better visual can be had....
  6. Donner pass I-80 CA.... looks like the paved it with cobble stones with some 6" trenches to hold the snow.
  7. I rebuild shocks for race cars. and here is what I can add.. The biggest issue with suspension found on old trucks is 3 things. 1) axel weight. (unsprung weight) 2) they have huge tires that have lots of side wall flex. this is a big issue when the side wall flex fights the spring and damper. you will get a shake or excess movement of the suspension. 3)that they used huge springs that take alot to flex (bump)and thus when they try to return (rebound) to their resting position they do so in a violent movement. When the spring is seeing any movment it causes the shock to resist that movement. the faster the movement the harder the shock attempts to resists that motion.now add in the tire flex and the axel has lots of vibrations(simple explanation!). The shock trys to control movement in both directions and is sometimes valved to resist diffrently in one direction vs the other. For most automotive applacations the bump valving is softer than the rebound valving. even tho a shock is constantly absorbing vibrations it is doing it diffrently depending on its direction of movement. An out of balance tire or wheel can be fixed easy with weights. a weak or soft spring on the other hand will often flex more than is needed in a constant fight to find its level resting point. If the shock cant control the spring then you get vibrations and un needed movement. the old leafs did very little to reduce movement. you had 12 springs that all want to do there own thing. even 3 leafs fight each other. if you notice most truck MFG that set up an axel now use 3 or less springs or just a spring to support an air bag. less things moving the simpler to control vibrations. If vibration is the concern try adding a stiffer shock. if ride quality is also the problem swap in a 2 or 3 leaf front spring it will improve ride and should have less vibrations. Trent
  8. Why not source a more modern intake heater. Will work better and less troubles.. just a thought..
  9. I agree Larry. The round nose trucks just dont cut it for me..that one there looks very good. Congrats...
  10. Have you thought what engines you will put in if the 673 gives up on you...
  11. THATS THE KEY RIGHT THERE... Each has their own opinions and I respect that
  12. NOPE...Doesn't matter to me...If I don't like it, I don't read it. Problem solved!
  13. what no you tube vid of the new 3 stick B model...... I want my money back!
  14. If I recall not many modern R cabs had cab mounted exhaust. after the mid 80s most were frame mounted??? If that is the case you will need to save your muffler brackets and interior stiffner brackets then drill and install them in the new cab. it is a tricky job as you can see what your doing. you will need to make a template and then drill the cab hoping that you hit the marks correct!! once you have the interior stiffner plates installed its easy from there. I had to fab up driver side brakets and when I was done they fit better than the factory passenger side did LOL??? What I also did was to make better exhaust supports. the westerns used the 2 bands to go around the muffler and one up at the rain rail but they always ended up making the muffler crooked. I made some fancy new brackets that not only look better but allow you to adjust the stack to keep it straight. if you want pics let me know and I will show you what I was able to do. Trent
  15. I-40 out of barstow CA to the AZ line. I drive in the left lane basicly the whole way...
  16. The RS600 had a few diffrent ways to mount the air ride cab. some used a aftermarket cab mate/superliner style air bag while others had the standard R model twin bags. It all depends how high the cab sat off the frame rails and how the truck was speced. My RS700 cab sat up about 6-7" off the rails. I was able to use a superliner air bag set up and it works great.
  17. Mine was used off of ebay had a cracks like yours has. about 1/8" cracks. I sanded it down filled them in let it set up and sanded again. was smooth as silk. had it painted and it looked great. last week I jump in the truck and see that its cracked in the same spots. but now they are smaller cracks 1/16" but they can be seen. will likely just push some more of the stuff in and see if it hides them at all. I think the plastic just shrinks when it gets real cold.
  18. i just did my wheel this summer and it cracked again. I used the stuff that is made for steering wheel repairs and it still cracked as soon as it got cold? My advice is to put the steering wheel in the freezer 1hr before you push the puddy into the crack. it may reduce the shrinkage issue??
  19. any highway in and around Los Angeles. concrete washboard! I 40 is bad where mentiond above. also I40 out in AZ can be a real roller coaster. not bumps but can take the wind out of you at 75 MPH
  20. I added air ride to my cab this year. I was able to keep the cab mount exhaust but had to make some new stack brackets. I also removed the x brace for the radiator. Added radiator support bars to the frame. Then used a superliner air bag set up. I modified the rear cab brackets to support the lower air bag mount. All that is left is to put the hood rest rollers on the cowl. Not hard just a lot of little things.
  21. I think you would just be creating a nightmare if you bought a r cab and converted it to a superliner. Just the bodywork involved would be a pain. You will find that the R model cabs had slight changes over their years. Some things that I noticed were diffrent door latches, exhaust mounts on the cab, wireing, cab lights/horn placement. Air cleaner location. Air ride cab, hood rest on the cowl. Radiator mount...there at some of the things I had to deal with when upgrading my 1977 to a more modern cab.. Trent
  22. Mike I misplaced the title 8 years ago when I moved.. If I recall the reliable wrecking truck had a door tag with a vin # that did not match the title. This tag was just sitting in the cab not even screwed into the door.. I do recall that the title had the same number that was on the frame. If I ever come across it I will let you know. I have everything in storage as I'm moving again.may be s while untill I can check. Trent
