  1. You sure you dident mistakenly add one two many zeros??? Way off base for a chopped up pile of bad parts. The cab is bad, frame is junk, motor is bad..what's left besides some aluminum bits bolted to the truck..
  2. I now someone that sold his r model for 17.5k..granted it had a complete drivetrain rebuild 2 years prior. And was repainted. Hell I was offered 10k for my rs 4 years ago...but agree that is a lot for a fleet truck.
  3. A lot of old slacks will back off if the slyde lock ring wears down and let's the adj bolt turn.or the ratchet is broken. I have noticed that the newer auto slacks seam to stay adjusted better than manual slacks. I still check them but stopping power is always greater with them. I think. However I still use manual slacks on trailers as some times I like the ease of adjusting them to suite the tractor that is pulling it. My tractor does not have good stopping feel to it.I feel the trailer is doing most of the work. More than it should be doing to stop..
  4. It is fun just to take them out for a run..
  5. She does have a bark now..but its not loud in the cab. They are at 12' so all the noise is above me. I think the dual 5" also take some rasp out. I will admit its fun to run up thru the gears hearing it pulling 90k + loads.
  6. good call on the F model Grill....
  7. i dont know for sure where your torque limiting is done. It could be off of a air line from the range selector to a electronic sensor on the trans... im more old school and have not had much trouble shooting on the newer stuff..
  8. dont you love electronics...... Sounds like your boost is good at one moment and then cutting back the next moment... wich tells me its a electronic/sensor issue some how cutting the power back. but that could also be a poor air or fuel flow issue...Now Im not on top of all the electronic stuff that well but what I have seen before is the following.... hope this helps... trans torque limiter hi water temp hi oil temp high egt temp bad air filter bad fuel filters bad fuel hose or kinked hose hot out side ambent temps low water level timing out of spec clogged fuel pick up tube melted turbo blades fuel cut off sticking closed/limiting flow... have also seen throttle pedals go bad and not allow full throttel. most of these can be spotted when "plugged in" to a Computer at the dealership... 9. where is this located now?
  10. if you dont run heavy your fine. if you run legal loads. you may want to change them out. If these are vergin tires look for the mfg date stamped in them. even if they are caps I think they may also have a date in them? I have some small cracks in my tires on my company truck and we run them to the end of the year then replace. just keep an eye on them and keep them up to proper air press ..
  11. they sure do turn heads. every time I pull up to a job site with my RS I find at least one old school operator that jumps off the machine just to chat about the Western Macks. One thing I have noticed is that everyone asks me if it has the big V8. or if it was built with one. Im half glad it is a basic inline 6 but know the V8 would be fun. Im still searcing for a cheep 12 speed that I can swap in. and if the money is right maybe a E7400 mechanical??? may even put some "softer" superliner front springs just to upgrade its ride. I was hauling onsite again yesterday with a v8 superdog and that front end was like butter over the same bumps that my RS700 madeit feet harsh. It could have been the extra weight of the V8 smoothing them out? i know keep dreaming and it may come ture.. then to make the day bad I had to slip seat into a 2001 pete. it rode nice but was like a wet sponge in the dirt. had to bang gears at the slow speeds as the truck was all over the place. sometimes to soft of a truck is worse than a solid firm truck... ok thats my rant Trent
  12. our first sled pulling truck ,a.k.a #5 ....was owned by a friends dad, he gave us the truck just for sled pulling and some laughs. it had a bad frame and rusty cab. A guy buying up old macks for export had came thru the yard and bought a bunch of 80s R models. he wanted the sled truck but we said he had to wait for the end of the season to get it. The owner said the exported was going to pay him 6k for the thing and he agreed to find us a replacement truck to keep pulling with. very thankfull that he has help us with the sled trucks,,,, anyways the sled truck was sold to the exporter with the pump calibrated/turned all the way up. I can only imagine what the next driver of that truck thought the first time he got the keys and pulled a load with it. LOL I bet that R model was well known after it arrived to where ever it went!!! i can just see it now doing wheelies up the hillsides... RIP #5
  13. One more pic..sorry hatcity. No rug burns in this one either.LOL.
  14. Thanks guys.. it was fun..sorry about the bad title of the thread. Rhasler.... The headlights panels are just painted flat black.the lights are factory with the oldschool stainless half moon covers . They just look fully covered by the reflection of the stainless..
  15. Worked the old dog on site all day. Hauling out clay and bringing back recycled stone from the crusher. Job site had been ongoing for 2 years and the guy running the show is the owner of the yard where I park my truck...its a large office complex that will be converted into a car dealership. Scaled out as high as 95,000lbs with stone rode like a caddy with the new air ride cab. Got her a little dirty but it was good to get to work her again.. dropped the trailer at the job site and bobtailed back home..
  16. If its a fontain no slack I don't think it can be adjusted..just replace worn parts.??? If it has the bolt sticking out the front that is what will tighten it up
  17. Grand rock is a good company, also try the Chrome shops. They sell all the under the truck stuff that's not chromed..Iowa 80 may have it too. But if you have any good tractor parts shop near you they can get it for you...
  18. I have seen rotted out cab,cracked rail, 300/6 speed/4.17 macks sell for 7k .. Trent
  19. Barry any reason I can't log in at my home..for the last 2 months I have to send from my phone..
  20. Congrats rob...
  21. Yep still there.. it has a larger upper tank and no provisions for the x brace..
  22. And had lots of aluminum parts. If I recall correctly My rs700l was 15,600 when it left the factory.
  23. I took a set a radiator support rods off a valueliner that is heading for scrap. The rods bolt to the frame rail and capture the radiator sides using a L bracket that is welded to the radiator cage. All I had to do cut and weld L brackets to the radiator cage and drill holes in then so the support rods could run through them. Then I removed the factory X brace that held the radiator to the firewall. Last to do is install the hood rollers to the firewall so the hood and cowl don't rub..I took the truck out last night with the stock X brace and she rode good but you could still hear and feel vibrations. Tonight I removed the X brace and Omg did she quiet down. All in all this was an easy install just a lot of test fitting under the truck..
