  1. Yes the spyders bolt to the axel tube just behind the hubs. They hold the brake chambers brakes; and the hole for the s came to pass thru.. I think later r model spyders will swap in..you will have to clock them correctly to make sure the spring chambers will not hit the bottom of the frame rails when the Axels move up and down... Look at a r model and you will get the idea..
  2. The 12 speed is one of macks best transmissions behind a 300 or 350 motor. You can drive it like a 5 speed on the flats but have the option to split each gear on half. It's overdrive so you can get hone quick.. You also get 5 reverse gears and a low low.. pretty much the best of everything. They did have some scratching issues in the hi low range select..some are worse than others. It's triple countershaft and will hold up to any thing you can throw at it...parts are getting a little harder to get tho...I'm wanting one for my truck.
  3. I paid 75 each for them. 7 years ago...they are harder to find today...
  4. Yep roto chambers. You will need to change the spiders to allow the spring brake chambers to fit without making contact to the drums.
  5. I'm thirsty.
  6. Worst I have done ...bosses truck...was raise the box on a hill and he held it with a excavator so it did not go over...stupid..but...
  7. When I was a kid and needed to jump a car but had no cables.. I would take a good battery out of a car and flip it upside down on the bad one..worked every time..but this was before I had ever seen one go.....ahhhh.....and I survived!!!!
  8. 3 years ago I had a battery blow up on me. box was off and I had jumper cables in my hand ...not even connected to a charging source yet. As soon as I touched the cable to the post it let go..luckly I had gloves and sunglasses on ..my hand hurt like hell as it took a hit from something..boy was it loud... I know a guy that almost died from a battery blowing up. He had just put 3 batterys in a starter cart had put the cables on and leaned back in his floor stool to get a wrench from his tool box. His foot bumped the cart and it must have wiggled a cable to get a spark..2 of them went off tearing holes in the carts sheet metal.
  9. Rowdy..how are those 40' end dumps ...I rarely see guys dump in the mud with them..if they do its hard packed and dry... Hell my 22' scares me sometimes..
  10. thanks guys..next year I will try to get a few "extras" to sit on the hood for a pic.. randy please don't rsvp. LOL
  11. Here are some of the long hood..
  12. Simple test as mentioned.. With park brake set.mash throttle pedal and it should blow black. Now with brakes released, mash throttle and it should not blow nearly as much black.just a hase,no more. If this is what it does the puff works fine. If I recall the puff needs to see boost around 15 psi of presser before it allows the rack to fully open.
  13. Thanks rhasler.. all in the fun of owning a truck..
  14. New paint on the dump trailer. Just cheep rustoluem but its better than looking at rust.
  15. My dads r model had that paint job. It was painted a dark brown metallic with tan and dark redish Orange stripes.real 70s looking. The stripes had gold pin stripes around the edge. Not sure if that was factory or not but she looked good. Wish I knew where it went..
  16. Ppg had one in the c.a.r.t days (open wheel car). Can't recall if champ car used it in the early 2000's?? Iirc it was used to haul pace cars. Saw it many times. forsythe had a Mack also bit think it was a ch.
  17. You sure you dident mistakenly add one two many zeros??? Way off base for a chopped up pile of bad parts. The cab is bad, frame is junk, motor is bad..what's left besides some aluminum bits bolted to the truck..
  18. I now someone that sold his r model for 17.5k..granted it had a complete drivetrain rebuild 2 years prior. And was repainted. Hell I was offered 10k for my rs 4 years ago...but agree that is a lot for a fleet truck.
  19. A lot of old slacks will back off if the slyde lock ring wears down and let's the adj bolt turn.or the ratchet is broken. I have noticed that the newer auto slacks seam to stay adjusted better than manual slacks. I still check them but stopping power is always greater with them. I think. However I still use manual slacks on trailers as some times I like the ease of adjusting them to suite the tractor that is pulling it. My tractor does not have good stopping feel to it.I feel the trailer is doing most of the work. More than it should be doing to stop..
  20. It is fun just to take them out for a run..
  21. She does have a bark now..but its not loud in the cab. They are at 12' so all the noise is above me. I think the dual 5" also take some rasp out. I will admit its fun to run up thru the gears hearing it pulling 90k + loads.
  22. good call on the F model Grill....
  23. i dont know for sure where your torque limiting is done. It could be off of a air line from the range selector to a electronic sensor on the trans... im more old school and have not had much trouble shooting on the newer stuff..
  24. dont you love electronics...... Sounds like your boost is good at one moment and then cutting back the next moment... wich tells me its a electronic/sensor issue some how cutting the power back. but that could also be a poor air or fuel flow issue...Now Im not on top of all the electronic stuff that well but what I have seen before is the following.... hope this helps... trans torque limiter hi water temp hi oil temp high egt temp bad air filter bad fuel filters bad fuel hose or kinked hose hot out side ambent temps low water level timing out of spec clogged fuel pick up tube melted turbo blades fuel cut off sticking closed/limiting flow... have also seen throttle pedals go bad and not allow full throttel. most of these can be spotted when "plugged in" to a Computer at the dealership...
