  1. Rob, I have seen alot of the larger pyro in The R models. Most of them were in the OTR trucks. I dont know what brand they were but know they were larger than the standard ???? 2 1/8" ???? gauges. Think there is one of the larger ones in one of the junk Kanzker trucks?
  2. Is the new bridge open to trucks yet?
  3. Yea they are basicly a light switch. on or off... idle or full tilt
  4. price is not too bad if it runs.. rare dog...
  5. roadway out here had alot of the detroit 318 R700s you could always here them coming. only thing I did not like was how bare they were. they must have saved a whole $100 by not putting some of the things on the truck. no fuel gauge, no dog on the hood,no jump seat, no dash tach ????
  6. thanks for the pics mark.. Rob, this guy said he has pics of the hood and cab at the scrap yard or leaving the yard???. I will have to see if I can get a copy of them...
  7. Rob dident you say it was scraped or you thought it met the scrap man?.. I dont recall all the dealings but I know we have all talked about it. i will get the salesmans name...see I already forgot his name, LOL Im sure he would not mind chatting about it. when I bought my RS and had it at the dealer He had asked me if my truck was the one he was looking for. thats how we got to talking about it 5 years ago. Who had the pics of it I would like to print them out and give them to him... Thanks Trent
  8. Mark I was at my Local mack dealer today and was talking to one of the salesman. Talked about that Purple RS or RL 700 that was up my way. aparently They sold it and the sales man use to haul steel with the owner of that truck. Said when they stopped for food they would most times eat in his truck as it had AC. he said that the truck was taken to PA by the owners son. The truck may have been sold to a diffrent owner in PA? regardless it had a cat engine and at some point the head was removed to repair. while the head was off water got in the engine and rusted it out. The truck showed up at a junk yard in PA. He has pics of it. cab was all rotted out. Sorry about the bad news. but you and a handfull of other people were chasing that truck. He did say there was a blue western R model that looked very simmilar that is said to still be up my way. I have not seen it tho... Trent
  9. I put a little of convoy and a little of Road Warrior into it. you know best of both worlds....
  10. Yea its tuff keeping her clean. The paint job looks good from far but its far from good.LOL. but being a rock hauler I see little need for it to be a trailer queen. The dash came out good. Need to pit a cb back in and refinish the steering wheel. I'm thinking of fixing the cracks and repainting it white.
  11. looking good larry. I will have to send you some "Bunny" posters for you to hang inside....I was out west last week and spotted a B model with integral sleeper. Was then wondering how your project was going?
  12. Thanks guys. im suprised the pics came out so good.. they came from my new "smart phone". what ever that means???? Well it rained last night and washed all the concrete dust off it. I removed the odd ball steel air tank and then put on a aluminum air tank that Phil from Global truck parts sold me a few weeks back. gave her a little spray wax then took her out to get a little dirty again.
  13. Gave the truck a quick bath and then hit the road. took some pics when I got back. felt good to stretch her legs.
  14. looking good!. whats the plans with it now? Wondering whats it cost to ship it overseas?
  15. think there was a post on here a few weeks back about a guy selling one or it was going to scrap? anyone recall that post?
  16. the canadians still have good taste in trucks. even the old R models had many if the fancy options.
  17. I dont know the exact year mack sold the last flat hood R model but Seams that 89-90 was when I stopped seeing them and the sloped hood RDs came online...the RDs were just as good and thought they looked fresh considering how old the cab is. Last RD I drove was a glider kit that had a 2v 300. one of the fastest R models I ever drove.
  18. if your getting that much MPG with a V8... I say dont change a thing! A MH with that much of a wall would not be helping you. The golden number is 55MPH. It seams that when you go over 55MPH wind and HP become big factors for wind resistance and power needed to pull thru it. My little turned up 285 gets 5.5MPG empty or loaded. all city miles....
  19. I bought some nos found on eBay.. they are hard to find but still out there. Might find some from a junk truck and have them related ??
  20. yea. 4.17 would put you in the low 60 MPH depending on tires. 3.87 got you up to the 68-70 MPH mark. Most macks with the 5 speeds pulled better with 4.17s but some of the OTR guys put the 3.87 in to get the faster road speed and lower RPMs
  21. Look behind the water pump for a stamp.....END(T) 675,676 etc... if its not there or on a tag mounted to the passenger side of the block.... your numbers you give looks like you have a E6 350hp engine. Mack changed engine notation a few times in the early 80s. the diffrence in the the thermodynes,Maxidynes, and Econodynes were turbo, injection, timing, fuel pump settings etc.... each engine had its specific torque rise and thus were suited better for certain RPM range. The thermodynes were common in B models and needed lots of gears and lots of revs to keep moving, the maxidynes came out next and changed the whole game. they were High torqe rise and only needed 5 gears to pull a load. a nice concept coming from twin sticks and low power engines. the econodynes were more intended for OTR use, they had less torque than a maxidyne but had higher HP. they were better suited for long haul. again later production years the econodynes were basicly a maxidyne but set up so save fuel and had lower Max RPM settings. thats the basics of them
  22. congrats rob
  23. somethings seams odd here? a direct drive trans is 1:1 ratio. put 11R22.5 tires / 4.17 diffs behind it and you will be at 62 MPH at 2100RPM this tells me that if you had a 1:1 trans with your current 3.54 diffs you should already be at 71 MPH at 2100RPM I may be wrong but I have never seen a truck trans that was slower than 1:1? not saying it was never done but... 3.54 rears are kinda fast, for example if you had a .78 OD trans (over drive trans) and the same tires and diffs you would be at 100 MPH at 2100RPM. 24. If the power divider is worn out it may not kick in like it should. Remember all the power divider does is put power to the other axel. when its in you have 2 wheels with power. when its out just one wheel has power. thats not to say that both wheels of the same axel will spin but as soon as one wheel gets traction it stops and then power goes to the free wheel. this is where taping the brake pedal will sometimes stop that spinning "free" wheel and transfer it back to the one that has more traction. only If the truck has a air operated diff lock. both wheels of that axel will fully lock in, other things come in to play but thats the basics Most macks I drove had a automatic power divider and thats it. alot of trucks I drove with air ride had a manual powerdivider and a difflock for one axel. this gave you 3 wheels locked in and one wheel was left free to prevent driveline damage. However some trucks can have a powerdivider, and a diff lock for both axels giving full 4 wheel locking power to the ground. any time a difflock is used it should be on soft or louse ground mostly in a straight line so not to put stress on the locked axel. hope that helps Trent
