  1. The guy that has the Pumper doesn't have the cash to do a proper cosmetic restoration..........That's all I have to say about THAT.
  2. I have been listening to the radio comms live. Engine Company 33 was trapped for a time and removed in a heroic effort by Rescue 1 and other companies. All member are accounted for at this time. One member transported in cardiac arrest. Does not sound good for him. All members removed from the building, in a defensive mode at this time, and the fourth floor has collapsed into the third floor. Boston Fire has instituted a recall of all off-duty members and multiple mutual aid companies are in the City of Boston manning BFD firehouses.
  3. Remember, you have to go through Blue Ball to get to Intercourse and then Paradise!!!! And is that the bridge going over the ditch between the Chesapeake and the Delaware Bays?
  4. Hey Hewy I don't know if you remember me or not but quite a few years ago my add in the Visiting Fireman said that I was a big Superpumper nut, and you were kind enough to call me out of the blue and spend some time on the phone with a teenage kid who was an up-and-coming FDNY buff and aspiring career firefighter!!!! I remember to this day and always appreciated your kindness!!!!
  5. Another great one..........
  6. Joe, the tillerman holds the wheel at the bottom, and turns the wheel in the direction you want the trailer to move. Tillering is an art form.....A good driver and tillerman can put a tiller (especially THAT one being so short) can put a tiller damn near anywhere. When the guys work together enough, they can read each other's minds. "Tillering 101" Any tiller wheel will have a notch or mark painted at 12'oclock (or whatever 12oclock is with the trailer steer axle pointed dead forwards....) Pick a center point on the tractor cab, like a marker light, a radio antenna, or the bubble gum machine- whatever you want to mark the center. The idea is to keep the trailer in line with the center of the tractor as much as possible. When the tractor makes a right-hand turn, the tillerman turns his wheels LEFT. Now here is where the marked wheel comes in- you HAVE to count the number of turns by quarters.....I sound it off out loud....."One fourth....One half.....three quarters...." Because when you bring the wheel back around, you MUST return it the exact precise number of turns, or else the trailer will be crab-legging and you could wipe out parked or moving cars in the lanes next to you. Rarely will you turn the wheel more than one full turn. Only in super tight turns and then rarely more than a full 1.5 turns. As said, when backing in, tillerman holds the wheel at the bottom, and moves the wheel in the direction he wants the trailer to move in. Here's a pretty good video of some tiller action while responding.......And a secret in the fire service- The Tillerman is the sexiest job, especially in the summer in a downtown section of a big city like Winfall, when the Winfall Wimmin are outside on their lunch breaks.
  7. Heavyhauler I do know how to tiller if you need help getting it around town and in the park.
  8. Terry if you are not aware, both the SP and the ST are alive. The ST has been fully restored to it's original glory and lives in SoCal and is seen regularly on the parade and muster circuits. The SP was purchased by a gentleman in Michigan who performed a horribly done cosmetic restoration- it looks like he rattle-can painted it, and painted right over existing rust at that. The tractor's engine blew, and has been removed. To the best of anyone's knowledge, the pump engine has not been run in years and it's disposition is not known, other than "it is there." The only saving grace is that the whole thing is stored inside a building out of the weather.
  9. Why thank you I appreciate that but no. I have enough 2-strokes in the garage already. Let's see- a weed wacker, a chainsaw, a hedge trimmer (those are for giving Slpwlkr his haircuts) The snowblower is also 2 stroke.....You know, shit that should actually BE 2-stroke.
  10. About the same in Central Pa.
  11. I already put a higher header and this commercial roll-up style steel door on for the FWD.....Old header height was 6'8" I increased it to 8'3" (as high as the ceiling joists would allow....) It used to have a standard 3-section fiberglass door. And yes, there is plenty of room next to the FWD for another toy.
  12. 8'6....dammit.....too high for my garage by 3"........Plenty of length though. That's exactly what I would be looking for if I had some extra money- a simple single screw MB, R, or U with a 237 and a 5-speed, but under 8'3"....LOL. Have fun with it, sounds like you got a nice new toy!!! You need to bring that and the superdog to Macungie!
  13. Just out of curiosity, what is the height of the highest point on the cab (which is obviously the air horns or the marker lights) not including the stack? And what is the total length???
  14. That's awesome!!!! You don't see many MB's anymore. What engine/tranny?
  15. I am humbled to be able to call Harvey Eckert a friend. He is one of the finest human beings on the planet. He's forgotten more about Mack fire apparatus (and highway buses of all makes) than all the rest of us put together.
  16. The Mack Museum has the paint numbers- if I remember correctly there is a Krylon rattle can gold that comes very close to the gold used on the engines.
  17. ECD sorry to hear that Diesel has crossed the rainbow bridge. I'm thinking about you and him today. Take comfort in knowing that you were with him when he left. He knows you loved him.
  18. I tried to sell her, no one wanted her. So I had to pay a divorce attorney, some credit card companies and other various collection-type agencies a little under $20,000 to get rid of her. The car I seem to remember getting $2500 for. It was in very good condition, with a little over 80K on the clock when I sold it.
  19. I had a 1996 SL-1 (4-door) 4cyl/automagic. First wife and I bought it used. I can't remember how many miles were on it, but we got it from the Saturn dealer that sold it new, and they had all the maintenance records. Aside from the typical new-car bugs that needed to be worked out, the only issue was some kind of valve in the tranny that it needs to go into reverse. The previous owner had to have it replaced once (warranty) and I had to have it done once- at about 475 miles over warranty. I asked them about taking care of it figuring I would get told to go pound sand but was delighted when they didn't even argue. Even gave the wife one of the loaners for the day. No other major issues that I can think of other than the road noise was a little loud inside. I remeber it to be a very good car and it got decent mileage. I had to sell it though when I fired the first wife. It was titled to me and my father- when she left, she took the car but of course not the payment book. She returned it in short order when I sent her the payment book in the mail. So I had to sell it.
  20. I see you were on I-78, I'm at exit 67 in Pa. (Bethlehem/Hellertown.) Next time you pass through ya gotta give a blast on the air horn!
  21. ECD pulling for you and your Diesel. Listen to Yarnall, he's a Vet.......And like OD said, there is no shame in crying. Hoping for a good outcome, but hoping for courage for you too if "that" decision has to be made.
  22. Busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest?
  23. Get him into the tub in cool water. Are there any 24-Hour vets in your area you could call or take him to???
  24. They don't currently own anything, just big Mack fans. But they know a LOT of Mack owners/drivers. Post some more pics!!! CHEERS!
