When I caught my 16-year old niece smoking (she was living with us) I made arrangements with the County Coroner for her to be present at the next autopsy he did on a lung cancer patient....And no it was not an option for her, As far as I know she never touched a smoke again.

Been there, done that. When I had my 1997 Toyota 4-Runner (last year with a manual xfer case with 4-low) got it stuck and the wife was really pissed at me because she was embarrassed I parked there to begin with....She looks at me and says "What are you going to do now asshole?" Me: (shifting into 4-low) "This." Walked right out of it. She didnt say a word the rest of the ride home.

I commend you for trying to overcome your addiction. I had problems with food and overeating for years, in October of 2010 I peaked at 385 pounds. I had no memories of ever being physically fit- I was heavy since I was 13 or 14 or possibly even earlier. I had my weight under control for the most part- I was a career firefighter but in early 2005 an old back injury flared up and caused extremely intense pain anytime I had to put an airpack on. At that time I weighed around 300-325. But the weight got to me and I had to retire medically from the fire service. Then in 2009 I developed type II diabetes- to accompany the high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and a host of other issues that I had. In October of 2010 my Doc leveled with me and said "if you dont do something soon, by Christmas of 2011 you will have type I diabetes and giving yourself shots in the stomach every day. My reply was "FUCK THAT." Then we talked about if I even made it that long because I could literally drop dead from a heart attack at any given moment. I had two kids and had just learned I had a third on the way. if I wanted to be there for my kids, I had to do something. I started living healthier, and on May 30, 2012 I had RNY Gastric Bypass surgery. I just hit 40 in November, and am in the best shape of my life. I'm holding at 194, heading downward even lower, although not as quickly as I'd like. Food was a hard thing to give up for me. I drank a 2-liter bottle of coke or dr pepper a day. I ate a whole cheese steak or hoagie daily, with a large order of french fries (washing it down with a 20oz bottle of the soda) at lunch time, and just as bad at breakfast and dinner. We wont even discuss the 2 or 3 snacks a day. I lived to eat, not ate to live. Moral of the story is that you have to seize the bull by the balls. You need to kick your own (brain's) ass- for that's what it is- your brain is telling you that you need those smokes. Not your body. Your brain. Convince it and your battle is over. But it's a hard battle. But you can do it. It's been hard for me, not gonna lie to you. I still have moments of lapse a year and a half out but here I am- kicking ass and taking names. Do I want to get up 4 days a week at 0500 to go to the gym? Hell no. But I do it because I know that I am a better person for it and will be here a hell of a lot longer for my kids, and as a bonus a pain in the ass for my wife. You got this. Just one word of warning- all my friends who have quit smoking all gained a lot of weight. If you are not currently going to a gym, start NOW so that you get into the habit. GOOD LUCK. FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION. SURRENDER IS NOT IN OUR CREED.

F-Model Aerodyne?
1958 F.W.D. replied to vision386's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
There were in fact all aluminum (including frame rails) Hayward (Western) F-Models. My father owned a Hayward single screw, 300/5-Speed with a Rockwell 2-speed rear, but on a steel foundation. If anyone who regularly attends Macungie remembers the Hayward F-Model from Wisconsin I think.....It's white with purple fenders- that's a true all aluminum F-Model. I have not seen him at Macungie for at least 3-4 years I think. I always make it a point to look over his truck closely. The frame is an inch and a half thick- looks monstrous. And the "Aerodyne" F-Models were popular in the European market- Mack's plant in the Netherlands produced a pile of them. I belong to a bunch of foreign Mack groups on Facebook and there are tons of Mack pics of equipment from all over the world. Twin steer F-Models were especially popular in Australia. -

Seems like a good way to do large-scale roto-tilling.

If you obtained factory information from the Mack Museum, did they send you their parts/resources list? I am pretty sure I recall seeing a glass vendor on there. If you do not have that reply here, and I will pull mine and check for you.

Kenworth makes Bendix front air disc brakes standard
1958 F.W.D. replied to kscarbel's topic in Trucking News
Granted- I have never run something big with discs across country or to deliver freight.....But I have run a boatload of fire apparatus- everything from pumpers to ladder trucks (straight frame) and tractor-drawn tillers, weighing damn near 80K..........I have driven big trucks for maintenance purposes and some other nefarious purposes (no comment) and I have to say that there is a tremendous difference in performance between disc and drums....again stressing I have not driven anything other that fire apparatus with them, I find it hard to believe that discs are not being more widely accepted. I couldn't imagine going back to drums on firetrucks.
