It was a pleasure to meet you! Shame your slot at the unload island came up so fast, plus the old lady was hassling me as she wanted to go out for dinner and then needed to get to the grocery store to get the french toast supplies before the impending icy doom starts falling from the sky. I dont argue with her when she wants to go to the Tilted Kilt (she loves the wings believe it or not....) That basically means freedom for me to turn my head wherever I please......And there was one young lady there tonight (obviously working her way through nun school the poor lass....) natural redhead......my gawd........I was in love for about an hour and then she (the wife that is) said OK we have to leave now, and no you cannot bring her with us...........(dammit.) Ok Dad was driving for Charles E Danbury (trailer broker.) Pulled mostly new trailers out of the Trailmobile Factory in West Point Pa. not too far from where you dropped today. He had a Hayward F-Model, 300/5-speed/single Rockwell 2-speed axle. Great truck for pulling trailers only. Then he met Harry Muschlegal, who many of us know to be the founder and long-time president of JEVIC. At that time (early 19080's) Harry was leased onto Southwest Freight and then a little later to Mason-Dixon. Then Harry got together with a dozen owner operators and started what was to become JEVIC. The 12 original guys (my father was one of them) were known as The Dirty Dozen. I remember when I was 7-8 years old JEVIC was 15 trucks, none were the same color, all owner operators. By that time my father's Hayward F Model was getting tired and rusted out, and wasn't great for pulling freight- especially overweight high paying loads that Harry took- So Dad bought an Allentown F-Model with a 300+ and a 10 speed and twin screws. At that time, when the ICC de-regulated the operating authority laws, Dad set up his own operating authorities for many of the 48 states. Harry knew this and after a while when JEVIC began buying company trucks, he asked Dad to come into the office for a few weeks and help set up his ICC authorities. Told Dad he would put a driver in his truck so that Dad could still make the payments, so Dad agreed. Dad likes to tell the story to this day about "his 2-week desk job turned into 26 years." He retired in 2005, 4 years before JEVIC went tits-up. I would love to have an F-Model, I would REALLY love to have that Hayward F-Model. And RandyM yeah you gotta catch up to me sooner next time!!!! Too many Randy's on here....RandyP RandyY RandyM......LOL

Yup I would advise the ADA that not only will I scream at the top of my lungs from the tallest building that he is weak on crime, but I will also make sure he knows that his bosses know that all my neighbors WHO VOTE FOR HIS BOSSES will know about it. Hit him where it hurts- at the polls.

Emergency help needed folks!!! Only I get late-night phone calls like this....."hey Randy, any ideas where we can get an axle for a 1948 GMC 4104 Silverside Greyhound bus? It's broken down in North Carolina......" Well shit, let me just pull my "Guide to GMC Axle Parts in North America" out of my back pocket and see..... Anyways, a friend of a friend is broken down in NC, dont know exactly where; will know more tomorrow. I am told he needs a 3.55 rear for a 4104, however the 3.55 rear for a 3751 will also work. I told him try to find the entire axle assembly because if the bearings or pilots or anything else is shot you'll have a better chance at piecing two of them together into one. Any ideas? Like I said I will know more tomorrow. Any thoughts appreciated. -Yardo (RandyY)

Did you ask them why the massive increase and tell them you were unhappy and refused to pay it? Also I would not have dropped their coverage until you have new coverage, thats just asking for trouble. Shop around though. Did you have it through your own liability carrier for your everyday driver? How long have you been with them? Get a hold of your agent and scream bloody muder- tell him yer not gonna put up with that shit, that they have to sharpen the pencil or you are WALKING and taking EVERYTHING with you- the house, the everyday drivers, all of it.

Unfortunately this day in age with the cutbacks the Military is facing- they are being ESPECIALLY picky about who they are recruiting, and I have heard from several sources that if a kid has an even slightly tarnished background, chances are they wont take them. With so few slots open, they want the cream of the crop for everything now.

Is anyone here familiar with, or do you remember the old Hammerhead Crane that was at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard? It was at one time one of the most powerful cranes in the world- was used to lift superstructures of ships and other shipbuilding purposes. It was torn down in 1995 or 1996 I want to say- when I was a firefighter at the PNSY Fire Dept. They used another crane to lift a bobcat with a pecker up into the main structure of the crane to break up the concrete counterweight. It was a huge project that took a few months to complete. I have pictures somewhere.......need to find them and scan them. Couldnt be too obvious taking pics though as cameras were verboten in the area, but since the majority of the yard was shut down, the rule was kinda bent a bit. EDIT: here's a link to some pics of it. http://www.google.com/search?q=hammerhead+crane+philadelphia&hl=en&tbo=u&qscrl=1&rlz=1T4ACGW_enUS412US412&site=webhp&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Yq8OUYSADuSE0QGpyoDYAQ&sqi=2&ved=0CDYQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=543

The little bastard was probably banking on the thought of not getting caught, and if caught, Grandpappy wouldn't prosecute. Run him through the ringer- as the others have said, it's the only way he'll learn a lesson- because if mommy and daddy have approached you about not pressing charges, then itr's quite apparent that they wont learn him his lesson. Sounds like your son is on board though having told your daughter in law to suck it up. Even if you had the choice of pressing charges or not, sounds like you may not due to the high value making the theft a high felony. I'm just sorry this is your own grandson. It only adds salt into the wound.

1958 F.W.D. replied to fxfymn's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I put two Deka's in the FWD back in 2002 and they are still going good today- although lately in the cold weather whenever I go to fire her up once every 2-3 weeks they do kinda drag a little, but then she lights off......I guess I can't complain for batteries 11+ years old......If NAPA is having a sale mebbe I should do a pre-emptive strike.......hmmmmmm....... -

Anyone know who makes NAPA's batteries??? -
I wish ya got some pix of that fire truck, too- very unusual to have the pump panel on the passenger side like that. I have heard George Strait is top-shelf people. I got to meet two country stars- John Michael Montgomery and Trace Adkins. Met both of them when I was a Federal Firefightrer at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. They were there to do shows for the US Army WMR Summer Comcert Series. The Fire Dept (of course) always had exclusive backstage access- have to check those fire extinguishers and paths of egress ya know.....JMM was coming offstage after doing his set, shook our hands and invited us into his area, but he was very busy doing celebrity things, but his people were very cordial and gave us t-shirts and pre-signed CD's. Another show a few years later we had the pumper parked out back next to Trace Adkins's bus. It was a few hours before showtime. TA came outside from the recreation building where he was doing a meet-and-greet. We were caught with our pants down, didnt know he was "around and about" and we were just in our work uniforms (pants/t-shirts) and not our dress blouses which we should have had on (had we known.) He comes right over to us and greets us all like old buddies and asks if he could get some pics with us and the pumper. His photographer took some shots of him and us, and him in the driver seat. He signed the sun visor of the driver seat, too. He wanted a tour of the rig, so we showed him everything, inside all the compartments, the tools, etc. He asked some really good questions, and even tried on an air pack. Down to earth guy, big, too- about 6'3". Spent about a half hour with us, then excused himself. 5 mins later he re-appeared from the bus holding a case of cold cokes- he says "I'm pretty sure you guys cant have the case of what I was GONNA give ya, but I dont think anyone would mind you having these!" Classy guy.

You can email Don at mack.museum@macktrucks.com. with the serial numbers. Your request will take about 8 weeks +/- to process. And yes as mentioned they will ask for a donation. But what you'll get is well worth it. -

I replied back to him on FB that everyone on here wished him well with his battle against the swine flu and he apparently had a good giggle over that, said he needed to stop by here. I posted a link right into this conversation to him. Hopefully we'll see him soon to understand how to better avoid contracting the swine flu.

Factory-made "sedan cab" B's are rare but they do exist. I think Rockville, Md. may still have one.

Had Condon and Skelly (Met Life) for a few years but then they switched to a different underwriter that I did not like, so I switched to JC Taylor. Outstanding folks, no problems. $165 a year for the FWD Firetruck with some decent (above state minimum) coverage. -
I can't remember which electric pump I have on the 1958 FWD feeding the Waukesha, if I remember I'll look tomorrow. Works well. Have it feeding through the original "stone" type fuel filter and through a large Fram cannister filter, no starving issues at all.
