  1. Duh..Yarnall I saw you posted Oct. 20. Unfortunately I wont make it then, as I am getting paid to have the FWD Firetruck in a wedding on that day down near Philly.
  2. Someone just called me tonight asking about this, I know nothing about it.......Would appreciate any info if anyone does have any......Also for John Haines IV's show
  3. Anyone have the date for this year??
  4. G-dammit!!!!! not when I am drinking a soda!!!! Now I have to clean the screen and keyboard!!!!!
  5. I use Meguires Tire Shine, and the lettering with a silver grease pencil- it shows white on the tire.
  6. This windshield will also work in CF cab fire apparatus, you should post it in the firetrucks section as well.
  7. I've never heard of this. I have been painting steel diamond plate on fire trucks since christ was a corporal and have never had any problems with plain silver. Sure it rubs off after several years at contact points (like where you step to climb in.....) but other then that no problems at all?????????
  8. He's a Mack restoration guro near Harrisburg Pa. Mostly firetrucks but if it has a bulldog on it he might have it. I think I have seen someone else on here post his number before, look in the firetruck threads, if not get back to me, I can dig it up.
  9. Vinny have you tried Cal Little?
  10. Putting a Detroit into a U-Model is like school on Christmas Day........ NO CLASS!!!!!!
  11. 41 Chevy you spelled "FDNY" wrong. I have seen a rather detailed list of bidding instructions on an official NYCDCAS webpage before, just cannot remember exactly where. There is a truck junkyard in Cooperburg Pa on Route 309 that buys ex-FDNY apparatus from the city pretty regularly. You do not deal with FDNY at all, it's all NYCDCAS. And no offense, I really seriously hope you are not trying to get that thing at Flushing airport- it has been rotting there for years and years, has been submerged several times, has had water frozen in all of the nooks and crannies- the thing is absolutely and literally JUNK. Any day now it will desintegrate and turn into dust. Lets not even mention the fact that no offical city records probably even exist for the thing anymore.
  12. The stainless A-Cars were specially built for Edgecomb Steel. There are a few of them left because the damn things were indestructible; I forget how many were made vs how many are left. The "Friends of Autocar" annual meeting is coming up soon, Sept 16 or 23 I forget which one, I am a member of the group and may try to go but dont know if I'll make it, if I do go I'll ask.
  13. He could do all that or just switch to a 4-cycle diesel engine that doesnt blow smoke, drip oil, break the sound barrier or think it's a lawn mower.
  14. write to Dale R. Guth at mack.museum@macktrucks.com be advised as of 2 weeks ago there is an 8 week backlog on archive requests.
  15. Did you check the availability of a rebuild kit? If not, call Greg Geske at Waterous and see if there is one available. Tell him "Son of Sam Yardumian" told you to call him. Waterous is not know for cheap parts, I will say that however kind of like a Mercedes or a Cat, rarely breaks down but when it does bend over...... Also, do you have the original and serial number specific manual/pick sheets and parts breakdowns??? If not call Waterous, give them your serial number and that they will send you for free.
  16. At first I thought that was a 750 Holmes, but then I saw it was only a single cable. I have a lot of experience on a 750 (double cable/winch) but none on a single cable, dont know how comfy I would be doing heavy truck recoveries or tows on a single hook.......Cars, no problem. Looks like it isnt in too bad of shape, good luck!!!!
  17. Didnt First Gear do a die cast of that Centre Carrier Corp Moving and Storage??? I swear I have one in the far reaches of the darkest location of my closet somewhere....????
  18. Loadstar- First thing. Right now, immediately if not sooner when finished reading this post- get on your email, and send an email to Dale R. Guth at mack.museum@macktrucks.com with the serial number, and tell them you just bought the truck and request copies of any and all files on it. Do it ASAP because as of last week when I filed a request, I got a reply that they were on an 8-week backlog!!!!! Best of luck to you with the new toy.
  19. I concur with this statement. I just dealt with Fred a few months ago, he has a bunch of NOS Waukesha parts, and sold me a full overhaul gasket set for my 140GZ Waukesha. Very nice guy, very knowledgeable.
  20. Where is this located? Bethlehem is right next door to me, and yes there is quite a bit of salt on the roads in the winter. Look at the rear wheel well in the pic- you can see where they cut out and replaced much of the sheet metal once already. That was a common cancer area for many Mack bodies throughout the years, especially the 60's-80's with the shit chinese steel being used. She looks pretty rough but yarnall is correct some rubbing compound and elbow grease may reveal smooth skin.
  21. Rubbers? Arent you a bit young to be needing rubbers?
  22. And, since UP doesnt like to waste any motive power and get every nickel they can by moving revenue freight with whatever power happens to be available, here is a video of Challenger 3985 pulling 145+ cars of freight when returning from a passenger excursion a few years ago. Note how she makes the curve and up the grade without even slowing down, batting an eye or breaking a sweat.
  23. There are no more UP 4-8-8-4 "Big Boys" in operating condition left in existence. As you can imagine, it would cost millions of dollars to bring them up to operational condition- re-tooling the (2) boilers and superheaters alone would cost a few million. HOWEVER...Union Pacific does maintain UP 4-6-6-4 "Challenger" #3985 in full operating condition. The Challengers were the little brothers to the Big Boys. Here are a few videos....
  24. If I went and looked at it with you it would have to be a saturday or a sunday. Where in North Jersey, thats a pretty big place....lol.....If you can make arrangements to get it out, and tell the guy you want to see the pump running and we'll need the water tank full or access to a hydrant with adapters (or a spot where we could draft with hard sleeves, adapters and a nozzle or two) that would also be helpful.
