  1. Our chapter of SPAAMFAA (The Cradle of Liberty Antique Fire Apparatus Assoc) just held our summer muster this past weekend. Thought I would post some pix of some Macks and some other stuff like a Mopile police car that showed up....Enjoy Oreland, Pa.(Montgomery County Company 700) A long time Mack customer- CF700 with the V-8. This truck is a regular trophy winner at all the parades and shows around here. Another CF Mack- I didnt take note where it was from. A 70's Plymouth Fury Delaware State Police Car for you Mopile freakazoids. Under the hood Another CF from Billingsport NJ, I believe thats in Camden County. An L- owner unknown.... Under the hood of the L Thought this was a neat shot of the "Mack", the bulldog and the American Flag. Under the hood of a B that for some reason I didnt take a picture of.....hmmmph... A pic of me and my two older men- The only reason I am posting this is to brag- those of you who remember me at the Macungie show may remember that I had just gotten gastric bypass surgery about a week and a half prior to the Macungie show....Well, this pic shows the results of the 76 pounds that I have lost (which includes pre-surgery weight loss) since the last week of April when I weighed 328. I am now 252. I hope to drop at LEAST another 50 pounds or so. Another brag picture- On the way home from the Muster, we stopped in Philadelphia at Engine Co 43/Ladder Co 9 located at 21st and Market Sts in downtown, where a good friend of mine is the Lieutenant on Ladder 9 on the "D" Platoon. Here are all 3 of my men standing in front of Ladder 9.
  2. With any hope, he uses the money he makes for english composition/grammar/spelling lessons.
  3. Too bad it has that Cummapart. May as well have a Detroit.
  4. Ok, it appears to be a legitimate ordinance. Therefore, one thing I WOULD NOT DO (despite everyone's encouragement) is to go in there without the permit and "just do it." You are already on their radar, and the hippies across the street filming you dont help. I pulled up the town's website- have you tried to contact the Supervisor yet? I would begin with him. Oh and by the way this is the first time I have ever heard of a bullshit ordinance like this......
  5. As a Code Enforcement Official myself, I would contact the Town Manager and/or one or all of the elected officials- they are the ones who caused the problem (the lay-off) and should be held accountable for the lack of action since they laid the permit guy off. Also, I would ask to see a copy of the ordinance- I have never heard of needing a permit to cut down a tree, not to say it doesnt exist, but town officials have been known to make up a law or two from time to time.
  6. Just to show you guys that I have some class and am not all about Fucked Over Rebuilt Dodges- Item #12 to purchase for the powerball bucket list will be a stock 1960 Buick Invicta convertible. #13: a 1958 Plymouth Fury. Those come after the F-Model Tractor and the B-Model firetrucks.
  7. If you get to drive it, be aware that thing has the turning radius of the Titanic.
  8. I took this to mean that the Aerial would not pass it's certification inspection. All aerial ladders are required to have a UL Certification inspection once every (3?) years I think. If it did not pass certification, repairs would more than likelybe expensive (cracks in welds, beams, things like that.) What he told you could also mean that the truck does not currently meet NFPA standards (I HATE the word certification when associated with NFPA as they have zero authority to certify something) and therefore would be difficult to sell to another fire department for active use; which in this case would be true as it is an open-canopy cab without doors- a no no in todays firefighting world. 4 doors and seats with seatbelts for everyone!!!
  9. Sorry- thats the "firefighter" in me speaking.....The "Main" is the (main) Aerial ladder. He has it raised in one of the pictures. If it will not recertify, then there is something mechanically wrong with it, and he really shouldnt be raising (flying) it. It will be difficult to sell without a recertification, and no offense to your buddy but I doubt he will see $16K for it.....Maybe 8 to 12K,
  10. Tell your buddy that if the main wont recertify then he really shouldnt be flying it......thats bad ju-ju. In the meantime if you or he are on Facebook, there are several old firetruck related groups where he could post it for sale.
  11. Dont let the door hit you in the ass......JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!! Fair winds and following seas. Best of luck to you!!!! Stop in once in a while and check in!!!!!
  12. I wish. The title of the thread is "my dream car." A 429 Boss is item #11 on the "to do" list when the wife and I hit the powerball.
  13. No more words are necessary.
  14. This is what the rear of the baddest muscle car in the universe looks like, but you guys driving those other pieces of junk already know that.
  15. My 1969 429 Boss Mustang would kick all their asses.
  16. Who needs Shakespear? If I want to read some long-haired refined crap I'll just come on www.bigmacktrucks.com
  17. If you have the serial number you can call the Mack museum archives and confirm who it was originally delivered to.
  18. Olive ya gotta work with them boys and learn them that "loose lips sink ships."
  19. Contact the Mfr. of the sleeper????
  20. The 707 was one of Mack's best gas engines, ever. As long as it was taken care of, it should be fairly bombproof.
  21. oh from the title I thought this was going to be about Detroits.....
  22. I think Bodie Island Lighthouse is closed right now- I know it is covered totally with scaffolding. Tell them to check with the NPS first before they make the drive.
  23. Mike ask your daughter if she has taken the kids to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoake Island...Many folks dont even know about the place. It is a great and cheap way to blow a few hours on a rainy morning or afternoon. Roanoake Island is about 45 mins south on 158 from Duck. Tell her to go south on 158, follow the signs for Roanoake Island, cross the bridge and go to the first traffic light and make a right. Then go about 2-3 miles, follow the signs for the airport and the aquarium and you'll make a left eventually. They always have something going on for the little ones that adults enjoy also.
  24. Exactly....it LOOKS clean, I would like to see better pictures of the whole thing including the running boards, the wheel wells, etc. And fxfymn hit everything I was going to say....
  25. The family and I vacationed this past week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We have been going there for years, staying with an old family friend who lives there year-round. He is a retired Batallion Chief of the Camden NJ Fire Department. They live in Avon, which is on Hattaras Island, about 6 miles north of Cape Hattaras and the Cape Hattaras Lighthouse (which was moved a few years ago by the way, if you are boored and have nothing better to do one night, google "Cape Hattaras Lighthouse Move.") On Wednesday, we ventured down to Ocracoke Island. To get there, one takes NC Hwy 12 all the way to the end of Hattaras Island, and then you take a 45 minute ferry ride over. The island is about 9.3 sq miles with only a small portion (Ocracoke Village) being populated, and even then only about 950 residents at that. They rely heavily on year-round (but especially summer) tourism. There is a bar/pub on Ocracoke called Howards Pub that is world famous, and the wife and I love their blackened tuna sammiches that they serve with a special dill tartar sauce. The residents and businesses naturally rely on trucks to get them their goods and services. Here are some pics I thought everyone would like. First shot is one of the ferries coming into Hattaras while we wait for an outbound. You can see two trucks on board. Second and third shots- the two rigs coming off the ferry. Fourth shot- a Freightliner condo with a pup hauling furniture is guided onto the ferry by the deckhands. These guys work seven 12-hour days and then have seven days off. Fifth shot- another view of the Freightliner with cars stacked around it. They really stack em tight and maximize a lot of space. But they also have to leave some room for everyone to walk around. Sixth shot- my Chevy Silverado on the left- The one that Yarnall might call "the burgundy streak." Seventh shot- on the return trip. What can Brown do for you? Deliver your packages to the island via ferry!!! Also a lumberyard truck from Kitty Hawk coming back from making a delivery. Kitty Hawk is about 70 miles all the way up NC Hwy 12 and 158. Eighth shot- inside the passenger lounge, where you can go to get out of the heat. I'd like to have the air conditioning in here for my entire house. I swear the vents had icecicles hanging from them. Last one- just a random deck shot. If anyone ever has the opportunity to visit the Outer Banks I highly reccomend it, and I am sure anyone who has been there would agree.
