MACUNGIE 2016- Thursday Night Nuns-In-Training
1958 F.W.D. replied to 1958 F.W.D.'s topic in Odds and Ends
Remember our discussion about Medium and bar fights a while back? Here he says "YOU SHOULD SEE THE OTHER GUYS!" He got into it with four bikers defending the honor of a pretty girl. -

No, the wife is working so I will have to stay at home and commute. -
If you are having issues with your primer, you really should bite the bullet and rebuild it while its out. Contact Waterous and get a rebuild kit for it. Also, if you are interested, if you plan on drafting a lot, look into converting it over to a Trident Air Primer. What a world of difference.

Maddog, for what it's worth, my wife enjoys going to the TK, and is OK with taking the kids there (they even have a kids menu.) It's not like the Nuns are stripping or anything. Friday night is the ATCA "Family Reunion" picnic, which you have to RSVP for- but I think that is now closed. Saturday night myself and a few Sterling Truck friends get together at the Fogelsville Inn- maybe that's what you were thinking? -

No, Friday night is the picnic. -
Just a reminder (as if you needed it) that next week, June 17-18 is the ATCA's Annual Father's Day Weekend Truck Show in Macungie, Pa. I'm sure that Doug Maney is busy with both the Show and preparing the Museum for visitors, and may or may not have time to get on here. Is anyone that is coming going to be in the area on THURSDAY? If so you are cordially invited to dinner at the Tilted Kilt in Allentown (Lehigh Street, near the Museum.) You are responsible for your tab. If you are on Facebook, respond to Doug's post, or you can respond here....Just to give them a rough headcount. We usually meet up around 6 or 7 and go until someone passes out, throws up or starts a bar fight, whichever comes first.

Those damn photochoppage wimmin, they're like gnats.....can't get rid of them
-
Firebuster, please dont take this the wrong way. I was just told that you have bitzkrieged just about every known Mack forum in the known universe over the past few months. The two best guys do not know where it is, therefore it has probably been scrapped. Hate to burst your bubble but it is what it is.

I have put out a message to Mike Martinelli.

1958 F.W.D. replied to kmeitz's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Start around 0800. Right now volunteers are working to restore the 1945 NM 6-Ton Army Truck. Last month my father, myself and my 12-year old were painting the woodwork for the rear body OD green while some of the other guys were doing frame and chassis work. Other folks work on dusting the display trucks, dusting the shelves, mopping the floors, general maintenance, etc etc etc......Usually break around 10 for a quick coffee break/bullshit session and knock off around 12-1 and sometimes some of us go to the Tilted Kilt for lunch. -
Michael I am working on some answers for you. I suspect two things: 1. That those tie rod ends are not exclusive to C-Models 2. They may not even be exclusive Mack parts. Will let you know as soon as I have answers for you.
-
Heard back from my guy in the Netherlands. Not many C-Mack Firetrucks in Europe at all, if any other than yours, therefore parts will be slim to none. Can you see if there is a Mack casting number on them? Perhaps they are not exclusive to the C-Model. I have to believe they could have been used on other Mack chassis. Anyone know the answer?

Monday was spent completing some more of the paint restoration. "Large" has really taken a liking to the truck and did a lot of the Monday work. My father had him on a creeper last week replacing air hoses and pancakes in the front brakes. They're going to do the parking valve together when Dad can find an American made one. Yarnall said to send Large over to his house but I told him he couldn't afford to feed him.

US House: cars are cleaner, so we should use less ethanol
1958 F.W.D. replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
Almost each and every single Fire Department in the USA- from the busiest of urban Departments that run thousands of runs per year to the slowest of the slowest rural Volunteer Departments have all switched their small engines (chainsaws, circular saws, rescue tool pumps, generators, portable pond pumps, etc....) to non-ethanol gasoline or even synthetic gasolines due to the number of problems that corn squeezings cause to the rubber and plastic parts in fuels systems. Many small engine manufacturers are not now not covering warranty claims for fuel system problems if corn squeezings have melted the parts. Many auto manufacturers here in the USA will not cover warranties if E15 is introduced into the system. -

When I used to use corn squeezings in my small engines, it would take an entire tank of gas on my small 3.5hp Briggs to mow the entire yard. I switched last year to non-eth, and now it takes about 3/4ths a tank to do the entire yard....and it runs 10x better. No wheezing, hiccups or dying in tall grass.....what a pisser. -
I know for a fact that I am the first person to ever have washed that truck- when it arrived (about 6pm on a crappy February day back in 1990) it had driven up 95 from Talladega, Al where the Quality plant was located at the time. It had all kinds of crap all over it including road salt. So they backed it into the firehouse and approximately 15.8 seconds later I was up on that roof with a hose and a small bucket of soapy water and a sponge. And over the years I have waxed that thing probably a dozen or so times....and washed it more times than I care to remember...lol

Since the Hahn's double-secret location is an hour away, I brought it home for the long holiday weekend to hopefully get some more paint restoration done. It's a very long, labor-intense four-step process. The truck desperately needed a good thorough washing with soap and water, so what better to do on a swamp-ass hot day than to have a Hahn Washing-Water Fight??? Even EXTRA SMALL got in on the action.

Contact Dan Supplee at Supplee Brothers on Lorraine Avenue in Oreland, Pa. (outside of Philadelphia.) Tell him that Randy Yardumian sent you. See if he has one laying around or if he can point you in the direction of one. If you are on facebook, "friend" me (Randy V. Yardumian) and tell me who you are, and I will link you to Dan on facebook.

EDIT: I had just asked if it was the ceramic packing or the rope packing....1987 makes it too old for the ceramic packing and you wouldn't be asking about screwing the tool into ceramic packing...LOL......not enough coffee yet this morning. How badly is it leaking? One thing many folks don't know or understand is that they are **supposed** to leak...helps with cooling the packing and maintains a seal throughout the entire packing assembly. People see a few drops of water and they lose their minds thinking their packing is pooping the bed. I have never done one, but I have heard some stories about guys having issues getting the screw tool to "take a bite and were told by a Hale guy to shove a golf tee or some wood splinters or something like that up in the hole and then stick the screw tool up there, and should get it to bite. Then if it doesn't bite youll have to start yanking apart. Also, if you call Waterous with your pump S/N from the panel plate, ask them for a full set of build sheets, parts breakdowns and manuals....Just like the Mack museum, except no donation required.

Oh my god I would be going batshit crazy with my elected officials over this to create some kind of loophole for unrestored or original condition antique/classic vehicles. Thank God Pa doesn't do that shit. You pay taxes on the sale price.
