  1. I can tell everyone I am more stunned than the rest of you that no one was injured I was doing 110 km/h (speed limit) so thats near 70 MPH and I reckon numb nuts was doing the dollar and change 100MPH plus from the farmer in the ute that numb nuts over took at the time he passed the truck I'm so lucky that numb nuts did keep on travelling other wise I would of most likely been locked up on assult charges Life is pretty fragile and is gone in a split second, everything we work for through out our lives never really amounts to two tenths of stuff all And some useless prick can take it all away in split second But yes be grateful that we came out ok I have managed to get im contact with the owners of the Benz and they are most apologetic about the whole situation, it wasnt their fault and they were a 1000 mile away when this all took place They tell me they will take care of everything, I guess we will wait and see In the grand scheme of things this is really stuff all so I'm not complaining, I guess it's just a sort of friendly reminder of how quick things can happen to us Take care everyone Paul
  2. Is it possible for oil to be building up in the exhaust somehow when sitting just idling, and then with the heat from the exhaust it ignites when under load Not a lot of heat is generated out the exhaust until it is under load and might take few seconds to make enough heat to ignite I really have no idea at all Paul
  3. Well what were all you doing Friday night at 7.30 ? We were (the Princess and I that is) returning from picking up a piece of farm machinery from Yelta, a little area north west of Mildura We grabbed some KFC for dinner and started to head home We were tootling along and got down near Yatpool and a semi or maybe B double came around the corner ( cant tell it was dark) dipped his lights, all was good until all of a sudden a extra set of headlights appeared right beside him I only had time to yell out "Were gunna have a head on" , dont think I even got that far and we hit I was on the brakes and heading for the side of the road and there was a hell of a bang and then the poor old ute wasn't handling very well so off the brakes and did my best to keep things up right We wobbled to a hault in the side cut on the wrong side of the road I checked the Princess was okay and then to my surprise I opened the door, yes it still opened and hopped out and ran out onto the highway to see what the hell had just happened I was still unsure as this all happened in seconds Within seconds a vehicle pulls up and a Im thinking this prick just about bloody killed us Im gunna rip his head off, as Im striding across the hwy to rip said head from the shoulders it dawns on me that I may have the wrong fella (those of you that know me fairly well will know my mouth gets me into trouble at times) so I asked if he had just hit us Well it turns out he was behind the truck and the car that hit us had over taken him and the truck crossing unbroken white lines, he appeared from no were and vanished into the night, or at least that is what we thought So another farmer pulls up and calmly enquiries "you had a accident mate" , ah yeah I reply " yeah the car that hit is a fare way up the road and the driver has done a bolt, but dont worry I'll find him" and with that he chucked a u bolt and vanished Over the next few hours I learnt from the fire brigade, the ambulance and the cops that they had found one person but he was badly hurt And everyone is surprised at just how little damage my ute has received compared to the other car, and more to the point Di and I don't have a scratch or bruise on us Then the tow truck dramas start, they want to take the ute to their yard, ok but can I collect tomorrow, no you cant The very first person in the Landcruiser was a farmer on the other side of Carwarp another 10 km up the road and had already said we can leave it there if we need to, so I asked the tow truck to do that, no bloody fear So we get on the phone to the insurance people and they instruct the driver to drop it The police tell the driver to take Di and with him in the tow truck out to drop the ute and then drop us at a motel I had organized back in Mildura We tried to rent a car, no luck to late so decide bed isnt a bad plan as it's after 11 o'clock now I wake early as always do and the Princess never slept, I checked the bus timetable and booked some tickets checked out and walked to the station Caught a bus to Kerang lucky for Miss Molly that we fed her before leaving We got back to Kerang at 10.15 We remembered ( ok the Princess reminded me ) that we had no keys as they were in the ute So we walked home and broke in Had some breaky got changed and started to get the Mack ready to collect the car that day, it was after 1 o'clock by this stage I started to head off Discovered a slight problem with the Mack so turned around at Ready Lake to correct that problem By the time that was sorted it was getting to late so decided Sunday was a better day Woke Sunday drove to Carwarp, 350 km collected my ute and came home Dianne learnt on Sunday from the police that the other driver was drunk and on methamphetamines Also learnt it was a Mercedes Benz 320 E We hadnt seen the car or the driver We also he wasnt injured the farmer did find him hiding in a ditch beside the train line and claimed he was paralyzed and had no feeling fro, the neck down, the fire supporting his head etc, when his story started to fall apart the dirty prick spat in firemans and triec to runaway but was promptly arrested and locked up So today the farmer that we left the ute at sent a Dianne a text with a photo of a newspaper article of the accident We didn't rate a mention When you compare the damage done to the ute compared to the safest car in the world, I'll let you all make up your own minds on whats safer Turns out numb nuts in the Benz bounced off me into the truck, we new none of this on Friday night or until tonight Gave Di one hell of a scare just made me as wild as all get out So that was my weekend Now the fight will begin as no doubt the insurance company will want to right it off, I have told them that I dont want that, they only made just over 500 of these and numb nuts in the Benz can pay to fix it and they can chase him, dont think I'll have much luck but who knows Paul And numb nuts in the Benz's from the Mildura news paper So some more happy shots, wheeled Mrs Mack in to the truck stop at Swan Hill on the way home On Friday afternoon going to collect our said goody I noticed a Peterbilt parked in the roadhouse truck stop I commented to the Princess and her enthusiastic sigh said it all, we dont see many Peterbilts in Australia It was still there on the way home So in for some happy snaps Paul
  4. Well I'm thinking maybe the chambers might of been upgraded to a bigger size requiring spacers behind the rims to clear the chambers I'm thinking this is possibly the case As with most things there are flow on effects Paul
  5. Pretty sure and open to correction that when Mack Australia started using that style of air cleaner they were only used on Macks with Mack running gear, if it had another manufacturers motor it had a normal Donaldson dry element Paul
  6. Im allconfuzzelled now lol Yes Mack made and sold a huge variety in the U.S. compared to Australia I guess the parts supply was in their mind the whole time Paul
  7. Yes matching the ground speed is crucial for a good cut, you dont cover as much ground in the same time but the job is so much neater Glad it's all working out The Princess has loved the zero turn Massey Ferguson mower I bought her as a birthday present years ago Sounds funny I know but she loves mowing the lawn, as she says "I can spend all day doing houseworkand no one notices, spend a few hours mowing the lawn and everyone notices" Paul
  8. Well some wonderful photos of trucks there, I do like that blue Federal, well I like most of them really Whats the with all those wheel chocks, no body has hand brakes or maxi brakes in the U.S. or is it some over zealous safety rules ? Paul
  9. Brocky I have been a tad busy, you know how life can get I'm sure Finally got that thread read on JOT, a absolute CRACKER of a read and what a amazing job There truely are some extremely talented and gifted people in this world that make people like me look like the amatures I am I take it the Brockway was finished in the end of the thread and has gone on give wonderful service since Thanks again for that link Paul
  10. Would be worth running a straight edge along the heads if the manifold is removed for checking for flatness On motors with multiple heads like these I always run a straight edge along these mating surfaces to make sure they are lined up, I have heads that have beem decked on the side that don't even come close to lining up with other heads, not saying it is the problem but only takes a second to check when apart Paul
  11. From 44,000 pound upwards Macks have a separate cap on the end and the axle is splined on both ends and floats between the the cone shaped cap on the hub and the spider gears in the diff 44's and up in Australia were this way with Mack's 44's have 6 bolts holding the cone to the hub 58's up to around 65 have 8 studs And even bigger Macks had 10 studs, dunno what rating they changed and I have never seen one of the real big ones except on photos on this forum Someone older and much wiser can probably answer that I'm a bit lost with what back end your gunna chuck under the B61, I haven't seen it mentioned yet Paul
  12. So you have pressure tested the intake side of things, is this correct ? And when I say you I mean your actual self not some other mechanic, unless I see things been done with my own eyes I dont know that they have been done Apart from your intake side I have no other ideas, at this stage Paul
  13. You have a air leak between the turbo and the inlet of the motor Maybe a split hose at a guess And one of those big rubber type of hoses maybe 5 or 6 inches across Paul
  14. I discovered the Boston trucker fella a little while ago I quite enjoy his channel, I was watching this the other day and Princess reached across and pushed my mouth shut Apparently my jaw had dropped Looks all quite impressive to me Paul
  15. These are a pretty impressive looking truck to me Doubt they will ever sell them out here in Australia, if they did I think I would be their first customer Paul
  16. I'll look forward to that beer, if it's over it will be one of these unless something better comes along Great Northern Victoria Bitter, or as we call VB XXXX Gold, still enjoy the odd Elephant beer I normally go straight to bourbon these days Paul
  17. Guessing they fixed it or crashed it Paul
  18. Maxi's only on the assend ? Gunna have a trailer hooked up ? Going duel circuit ? Paul
  19. I know in Australia there was a bracket to take the Maxi chamber further away from the wheel as a lot of NR Mack back ends got fitted to single drive trucks in the 60's and 70's Apparently I have been told on here that is wrong so I stand to be corrected However I clearly recall Gleemans running the adds for a NR back end and the associated brackets to do the conversion The bracket wasn't anything special and I reckon Gleemans just made them to suit If my memory serves me correct which it probably doesn't it was a big thick piece of flat bar with 4 holes to shift the maxi chamber a inch ir so inboard Maybe needed to change the S cams for longer ones to shift the slack adjuster as well Gleemans were the Mack people out side of Mack Australia for many many years and sold everything Mack, new, second hand or rebuilt Paul
  20. did this just start happening during the days work or was it like it this morning ? Intake hose collapsing ? Is making lots of smoke ? Paul
  21. At the risk starting a international incident, the U.S. and it's citizens have pretty poor record of handling Covid 19 so far and judging what is myth and fact So far plenty of people in Australia have had the jab with out been threatened or offered incentives and we are running along all okay compared to most countries Maybe there's a lesson for the U.S. and it's citizens there, dunno maybe not either Paul
  22. dunno, to me it needs to be run hard got hot, then see what the go is If it still has bad Indians you have a problem, until then we are only guessing Paul
  23. Anything is possible and more than likely This type of thing has been going since the 40's so it is nothing new Paul
  24. Dunno if they are rare or not in the US, I have never seen one in Australia Paul
  25. Welcome to the forum, good luck for your future dream machine Paul
