  1. I dont even notice the aircleaners on my R model so I guess the answer to your question is no they dont block your vision Paul
  2. Dunno about softening the ride, most people just run low tyre pressure to start with Paul
  3. Yes and no Vlad, I think prior to 1988 (not sure on that date but that date comes to mind for some reason) there was no requirement to have a vin number The vin number was as simple as the first one shown, just 5 or 6 numbers All Australian Macks before that time had the chassis number used as there official id The chassis number was stamped into the RHS chassis rail between the leading drive axle and chassis number and it's about a inch or 25 mm high and consisted of at a guess 15 numbers and letters and may well of been 17 in total When ordering parts for those older Macks in Australia you use the chassis number not the vin number Paul
  4. 50 psi As long as the tyre wall isnt flexing to much If the wall flexes to much the tube will scuff on the wall and cause the tube to rub thru A lot of people run 10.00's at 60 - 65 on hobbie type trucks but I think even 50 would be fine Paul
  5. I think of this forum and another that I frequent as my main stream media Guess that makes me a bit of a looser Paul
  6. Welcome aboard Paul
  7. To add a bit more if I may Not only does he have his toy collection he also appears to employ a lot of people to maintain restore and help And in this video he says something to the effect of "dont worry we are taking care of them " As a comedian he did nothing for me at all but since discovering his youtube channel I can say I have seen him in whole different light Paul
  8. Yep, Im liking his videos more and more, and this Corvair is pretty cool looking beast Of course I then spent some time on youtube looking at others lol Paul
  9. They did have the evidence I believe, the bloke admitted to driving, Wendy's staff saw him drive Some interesting facts some people seem to be missing or just dont want to talk about This person showed poor judgment, he chose to drive when drunk, he chose to try drive thru Wendy's when he was obviously not capable of doing so, he chose to fight the police, he chose to steel their weapon, he chose to discharge the police weapon at the police, he chose to run So now after all of these poorly thought thru decisions are made we are now been expected to believe that he was going to make the right decision and stick to it until he was sober at someone else's house whom may not of even been home and even if they were home, he may not of even been welcome there Had the police let him go and he caused even more problems or even worse some innocent people to die I wonder if the very same people throwing the police under the bus would then blame the police for not arresting him when they had the chance ? I do think that this wasn't a crime you needed or deserved to die for, however this doesn't change the facts this fella started the chain of events that lead to his demise It's like walking into a bar and picking fight with the biggest meanest dude there and crying fowl when he beats you to a pulp Paul
  10. That looks incredibly neat and tidy, well done and glad you got it home ok Paul
  11. Yes, be a good person and the police leave you alone Very unusual how that seems to work Not saying I have never had a runnin with the law, by and large they just leave me alone Paul
  12. You best explain this, law can't be that much different in the U.S. than Australia The copper was polite even while he was putting the handcuffs on And the criminal was also going ok and then he made one foolish decision I doubt in Australia there would have been a shooting as it never would of got this far , unfortunately for the criminal he wasn't in Australia were Australian police never would have taken his crap at the start Funny how quick things can get out of hand even when your just doing your job Paul
  13. Stumbled across this the other day again and dont recall if it's already been shared here or not Paul
  14. Well the problem starts right at the very start of the policemans body cam footage In Australia you dont have a choice or discussion about a breath test The laws very clear (as it should be) when you drive you must give a breath test on request, zero excuses or conversation "Blow into this" you blow into breath test machine No discussion about drinking, types of drinks or should I shouldn't I You refuse to your arrested and charged and cars impounded and your carted off The same for swab tests for drugs There is no discussion, no argument, its the law you must obey it The U.S of A needs to grow set and just enforce the law, it really is that simple All that appears to be happening in the U.S. at the moment is society is getting reduced to the lowest common denominator Paul
  15. Depends on what you call building them Most trucks came to Australia in a knocked down form and only had a body built back to the fire wall and cowl The rest was built in body building shops in all big cities around Australia This applied to all trucks and buses pretty much from all countries around the world Australia was very big on been Australian made and high Australian content, we had tariffs in place to help our industries grow Macks started having a high Australian content in the late 50's early 60's The fire truck you talk of would of been no different Paul
  16. Chassis numbers in Australia are stamped on RHS chassis rail behind first drive axle Dunno about the rest of the world Oh and the numbers are about a inch high Paul
  17. I was doing some reading and you might be surprised at the fuel economy you will get out of that Mack motor I would think if you swapped the diff ratio to get closer to what you are chasing as in speed wise you might get between 10 - 14 MPG when your zipping around empty I have a article on a Holden FJ or FX ( which wont mean a thing to ) Holden was the Australian arm of GM and the GM brand in Australia Anyway, this fella did modifications to the grey motor (the Holden equivalent of a Blue Flame Chev 6 cylinder) and could easily get 20 - 25 MPG on unleaded fuel I think with modern throttle body fuel injection kits and a electronic dizzy you would be able to get even better I have a couple of petrol Macks I need to pick up after this Covid 19 debacle finishes and this is the route I think I'll take with them Not saying it's gunna be simple but hopefully will keep them fairly original and reliable so I can use them for fun Paul
  18. Welcome aboard Les Always good to hear stories and view photos from other parts of the Mack world Paul
  19. And diff ratio is easy to find out if you aren't sure just ask and plenty of help will be forth coming Paul
  20. As Vlad had said, your truck your rules Since your asking I'll offer some thoughts, not instructions, thoughts In Australia and I'm guessing the rest of the world is similar, more trucks, cars, bikes etc are wrecked and end up in the scrap bin by well meaning people who are gunna do heaps but it all in bits and life and lack of motivation or the enormity of it all takes over and several years later it goes up on a buy swap and sell site as a started project but ultimately ends up in the scrap The advice given out pretty often in Australia is, get it running and useable and enjoy it When this happens it is believed we are far more likely to keep it going and enjoy it and do small mods and improvements As for ride, drop some leafs out of the spring packs and reduce tyre pressure to say 50 psi max and you will find it will ride like a Cadillac or better Power steering, you will find if you have little weight on and a well lubed front end it will be fine for driving but heavy for tight maneuvering Speed is going to be a issue but until you find out what your diff ratio is and what options are available that will remain a unknown If your plans are for driving everyday a 5.9 with a overdrive box might get what you need Caster angle was reduced in Australia on the front axle of trucks from new to help when no power steering was about This has the negitive effect of making the trucks quite hard to keep in a straight line at speed but is fixed fairly easy with wedges in the springs Good luck and please dont think I'm been negitive or rude, just offering some thoughts Keep us posted Paul
  21. I rarely get involved in political discussions I was sent this last night Before you click on the link I ask you did you know that some years ago a white Australian womam was killed by a black American police officer? She had zero criminal record Anyway click on this link and see how dumb people are in Australia as well when interviewed about black lives matter protest in Australia https://www.tr.news/blm-melbourne/ I hope the link works Paul
  22. At a guess a lot of people have had a go at this idea as they are all different bonnets/hoods Paul
  23. Blocked oil gallery or crook O ring
  24. It is all good, war dog has sent me the number I hope they do them, if not I will come up with a fresh plan Paul
