There's surprisingly not a lot of room on a R model for paint and stripes The cab fills up pretty quick and starts to look very busy if you put to much on This was the advise given to me by my good friend when he painted Mrs Mack Paul

The top photos on this page with a molding around the waist line of the cab are much more appealing to my eye thsn just flat panels and I feel will hide the wear and tear over the years much better Paul

Truth be told I dont think I have been busier since I was a young man Got told to give a bloke a call 18 months ago and landed a job almost immediately on a solar farm as a electrician I did my apprenticeship as a young man as a sparky but never really liked it so left I became a tradesman in recession we had to have in the 80's This solar farm building keeps flat out like a lizard drinking, start 4am get back at 6.30 pm These to me are long days, but the pay is good and I'm not you anymore I also do share farming when the season permits with my best friend, basically we call it farming but have lots of fun loosing money trying to grow crops in bad season's lol This solar farm is going to be built in stages Stage 1 is 250 mega watts, covers 1250 acres, it has 750,000 panels to wire, 640 km of 400 mm DC cables, 30 odd km of 800 mm HV cables and 3100 km of of string cable This is the 4th farm I have been involved with since I stopped cane farming Very un truck relate, however I still do find time to follow my passion for trucks I have manged to do at a guess 10,000 km in the last 18 months in Mrs Mack, bought some beauties home on the low loader for good friends and dragged road trains from one end of this wide brown land to other and back again in Mrs Mack in my none solar farming days I have made lots of videos but the windows 7 on the computer wont allow me ro make youtube films so ir appears a new lap top is in order Not a lot of truck related stuff on the solar farm apart from the 250 ton load two pictures above Paul

My truck has three inside the rails and on beneath the rear cross member This would appear to be pretty standard layout on Australian Macks Paul

I do hope Billy T is fit and healthy These threads (think thats what you call them) can certainly take on a life of there own 😄 Yes the forum has changed and in lots of ways it only has got better I dont posy as much as I used to and once I was on 4 forums regularly now just 2 Life gets so busy and my eye lidsare faulty and shut of their own accord when I sit down at the end of the day Keep the dream alive people and I hope Billy is fine Paul

Some Australian ones that were working in the Kimberley region (north western Western Australia) notice the bunk on the back, "Star Light Motel" East Kimberley Transport trucks They sure tough old jiggers that worked hard back in the day Paul

They were never big seller's in Australia, however considering how few would have been sold a surprisingly large amount seem to have survived And it's even more surprising considering the extreme conditions a lot were operated under

Mack dealers in the US are very different than Australia by the sounds of it as dealers out here are only to happy to help no matter how old or difficult it may seam or at least that is my experience I reckon I could walk into any dealer and order R model rails if I had the chassis number Yes they would cost a few bob, but if we want Mack Australia to support our old junk we have gotta pay for limited stock items to be made and held Paul

NZ has many custom buses as described, or at least I have read about many over years in Truck and Bus magazine They had half bus half goods carrying that worked in conjunction with their railways In the Otways (the part of Australia I grew up in) the local bus company had at least one bus like this I did a quick Google and Im guessing like most things they have been bought out and shut down and erased from history One things for sure, them kiwis are custom builder's of most things and appear to have much straight off the shelf stuff Paul

Just so I understand this correctly Air is going down the exhaust line on the stick when you shift it into high ?? Have you checked the O rings in the splitter knob ???? If a regulator stopped working or someone had the pressure to high it push the O rings and seals out of their seats and then the air circuit is mucked up Paul

At a guess I would think it's more expensive to manufacture as on a V8 you have 8 heads to machine as opposed to two or 4 on a E9 So at least twice the setup for machining and twice as many heads to machine Paul

And it's cheaper to make one head to fit all configurations of motors whether its a 1, 2, 3, 4, or what ever the case maybe This single head per cylinder was pretty common in Europe on trucks tractors and just about any type of diesel engine Paul

Anthem looks a lot better with a decent paint job and as already said, no snail antennas Paul

Thats a very clean swap and a a very clean leaker A lot of Mack purists will have coniptions about this swap but I like it as thats what trucks and trucking were all about once Paul

If your talking petrol with ethanol I would question those figures I have run E10 (10% ethanol) in my petrol vehicals ever since E10 came out and have never noticed any difference in performance or fuel economy Both old carby motors and new EFI motors seem to run the same High compression motors are a different kettle of fish, but normal 10 - 1 compression motors are fine in my experience Paul

Dunno if you have seen this or not, I haven't noticed it on here before Don't know if it still classifies as modern, stumbled across this on YouTube yesterday Paul

I dunno nothing about these but was wondering could these be fitted to a older Mack motor and if they were would they help to clean up the black smoke ? I was thinking that even in Australia we have pollution law's and although Mrs Mack rarely makes into the big smoke she does on a rare occasion venture into Australia's biggest cities and all it would take is for some over educated knob head to make a complaint and it could become a head ache Appreciate any thoughts on fitting one of these Paul
