Volvo introduces new Mack “Anthem” on-highway tractor
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
I find the whole thing of "the all new what ever it is" and its just had a new grill or whatever other cosmetic change a bit insulting. When they went from the B model to the R model it looked like a all new truck the same when they went to the CH model it looked like a all new truck. Now try as they might this is not a all new truck,it has had some major improvements namely the stand up cab and sleeper but all the rest isn't really that much of a game changer. Had they have put some major up grades in that are game changers things would be different but sad truth is there isnt and this I feel is wasted opportunity. Dont get me wrong the CH cab is a good cab as is the ACCO cab that is made in Australia for International truck, but International Australia dont go on about a all new truck. They instead talk about what upgrades and how good that cab still is in todays market, they dont treat the buy public like fools, they play to its strengths and it is till a good seller even today 40 something years later. Maybe a lesson there for Mack. I remember when Harley Davidson nearly went broke in the late 70's I think it was trying to play everyone else's game instead of doing what they did best ( build big uncomfortable thumpers). Anyway they had a major change in their direction and started making what they made good and made it even better. They proved that you can make something and make it well and charge a bucket load for it and still have a huge waiting list of new orders. Also Kenworth Australia I think have a 9 month waiting list for a new truck, they dont make super slippery poxy thing they make trucks that look like a truck and sound like a truck and also are cheap to run as do Mack Australia. Should be some lessons there. People will tell you what they want if you listen. They old V8 E9 ValuelIners out here have sold for over $100,000 in recent times, that's a lot of money for a truck 30 plus years, surely there's a lesson there, similar figures are received for good old Superliners as well. Volvo introduces new Mack “Anthem” on-highway tractor
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
I was out and about on the hwy a couple of days ago (yes I am allowed out every now and then) anyway a thought occurred to me This truck with its super poxy mirrors and the like made to look as ugly as a hat full of ass holes in the so called name of fuel economy, does all this poxy plastic crap work because as I drive along the Hwys in Australia I noticed that not only dont Australian Macks have this crap hanging off them we put proper mirrors and big air intakes up each side on new Mack Tridents and Superliners and our motors have a different chip to give more power and fuel economy is just as good and we pull bigger weights So does this poxy plastic snot hanging off the truck help at all or is it some pimple faced fresh out of uni design from someone thats never driven trucks for a dollar The new stand up cabs a winner for sure and is long over due but I dont think people are dumb enough for the plastic gimmicks or maybe they are Which looks more like a real truck this or this piece of snot Paul -
LOL everything is easier on you tube or TV, I think they cut out all the swear words, interruptions and thinking time LOL Looking good Paul

I prefer the standard Mack seat but to find anything any good is as rare as rocking horse shit so I just leave what I have It is almost embarrassing how little I new about this seat after all these years of sitting in it But a R model cab isnt really big enough to get to excited with adjustments anyway LOL Paul

New Zealand seeks to recruit 1,000 Irish truck drivers
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Well something for me to do maybe since Im no longer farming Not a long plane ride either Paul -
how can a truck thats new do less damage to our roads than one thats over 15 years old Thats what the government are saying by saying they can cart more weight And what about the mass management BS, you do this crappy course and you can cart more weight do this other fatigue management course and you can drive more hours It's still the same truck and the same driver The whole things a crock to squeeze out the little guy and support the big guy who already operates out side the rules with the governments blessings Tiz a bloody disgrace Paul

Linfox has a lot of haters out there because of his size operation I have a lot of respect for him, he started with nothing driving one truck himself and I reckon he would be the biggest in Australia now Paul -
bugger me this whole thing appears a joke from the outside, but it is good to see that this style of constant cock ups arent restricted just the Australian government ! It appears governments the world over are pretty good at making a absolute mess of the simplest of things lucky for us they dont do anything important other than running our respective countries Paul

Note to the design team of the new all Mack, notice no poxy mirrors mounted in the middle of the bonnet And yes KS the Western Star is a pretty sexy looking jigger in the land down under My only dealings with Penske were woeful and that was with its spare parts people in Townsville and that on its own would stop me ever buy a Western Star or a Detroit diesel Paul

I wonder if they will have a RHD version of the stand up cab ??? I think that with the Trident bonnet would be a good seller out here but would need the shorter bunk for B double work maybe -
A floating slab has layers of reo not just the lower layer like a normal slab A normal slab the reo only stops the slab flexing one way and floating slab has reo top and bottom to stop the slab flexing both ways so it can then float as the ground moves Paul

Very strange how in America a lot of people tie re bar together to make mesh, I have never seen that done out here 6 inches is very thick I would have thought On the farm I grew up on we had a cement pad over 100' square I think around a 120' or 130' and it was to screw the semi's around on for loading spuds (potato's) and it was only 3 inches thick and never fell apart and it was in very high rainfall area 80 plus inches a year so we couldnt use gravel Good luck with it Paul

Volvo introduces new Mack “Anthem” on-highway tractor
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
I must confess now that I under stand the stupid mirrors hanging of the bonnet (hood for you yanks) are optional it has improved I also if with a little more thought could the same image be displayed to the driver thru a projected image on the windscreen from wide view cameras mounted discreetly After seeing the internals of the sleeper and cab, the interior now has my vote except maybe for the steering wheel I also wonder how it would look done up like a dunny truck as call it, like the older New England trucks I have seen on here with scroll work etc as a lot if not not almost all owner drivers in Australia still seem to scroll work done It might look deep dark and mysterious in mat black but what about some high gloss colours ???? KS got any photo's pf it in a customers custom paint job ?? I must be getting old Im warming up to it already, I wonder if it was like this when the R model was first released to replace the B model ?? Paul -
no doubt doing something like that he has his finger on the pulse of all things in the truck world Paul

Brocky the IH and Chrysler relation ship went a lot further than most realize out here A lot of Chrysler motors were cast in the IH foundry at Geelong and as such have a IH logo cast into the Chrysler block and no doubt other things as well Things were a lot different back then in Australia as no doubt it was in the US as well, before the days of cheap imports the demand was so great for a lot of products that there was waiting lists, Holden the all Australian car had three shifts going just to try and keep up My the world has changed since then Paul

he might be recovering from the shock of the all new Mack LOL Seriously though I do hope all is good with him Paul
