  1. Yep sure were Paul and I reckon they were and still are some of the best little motors ever made last for ever and run on the smell of a oil rag As to this truck in the video I wouldd have thought most likely a 6 cylinder Gardner and a six speed box of some type David Brown or something similar eitherway it was as good as the Pommy trucks got before they joined the EEC and screwed the rest of the Commonwealth Some people on a Pommy forum asked me what I thought about BREXIT all I could say was suffer in your undies, you lot made your bed now lie in it LOL Paul
  2. if you dont have no smoke you arent getting enough fuel to leave smoke This could be a range of issues if the fuel rack isnt moving all the way because the governor isnt working right this could be the problem Or maybe a lack of fuel from the tank If it was a lack of air it would be making heaps of black smoke as the fuel wouldnt be getting burnt because of a lack of air Or at least this is what my brain tells me Paul
  3. Thanks Brocky I am floored at this so just because you have been there a long time you get promoted and not because your any good No reason for someone young to try hard as you just hang around for a while and you get promoted anyway no matter how unsuited you are or maybe I have miss read this all Paul
  4. I dunno about the rest of them but Im just dumb I think And now a dumb question if I may what is "the seniority list" ????? and this is a serious question as I have never seen that before Paul
  5. Vlad, not all of those Macks had the removable roof and I'm guessing most never would have been unbolted in their life. But I guess maybe the thoughts were as most cars and trucks sold in Australia when these were new didn't have air con fitted. If you were to operate in a hot environment for a extended period, the roof could be removed. May also have been for better views when out about in jungle warfare. As I said, I only noticed this for the first time a year or two ago at Mack Townsville (Lavarack barracks is the big Army base there) and I asked the bloke from Mack what the go was. I had only ever seen one other picture of a R model with out a roof and it was on this forum and as a US fire truck. I reckon that the parade was in the mid 80's as the trucks were like new. Dunno though, I have newspaper clippings of it put away somewhere. Paul
  6. thats as funny as mate I dont think I'll ever forget that every day I learn something on this site most times nothing to with Mack trucks most days its a good laugh Thanks Wobblin mate you made my day now how do I put that on the bottom of my page each time Paul
  7. hey whats this retire business I dont wanna retire then Im just sitting around waiting to fall off the perch and I dont wanna waste a minute of my life waiting to die I got to much to do between now and then, Im already gunna have to live to 149 just get half the jobs done, and that doesnt include all extra stuff I have to do to support all the bums sponging off me!!!!! LOL Paul
  8. Vlad if you look close in the video bellow the window on the rear of the cab there is a join and a row of bolts that run around the rear of the cab and also across the top of the windscreen I dont think the row over the windscreen can be seen in the video All Australian Army Macks like this were converted from camel back to air bag in the 90's a OH&S thing to make it smoother for the troops these Macks and 155 Howitzers belonged to the local army reserve ( I think the Army reserve is like the US national guard) in the town I came from I was on honor duty to open and shut doors of the dignitaries as they arrived for the handing over to the unit as they had the freedom of the city that weekend These trucks made real impression on me as young man Paul
  9. I dont know if anyone else knows this or not but some Australian Army Mack 6x6 R models are convertible I guess you would call them cabriolet ????? I think is the term used I noticed some at Mack Townsville a few years ago and reckon they would make a great fire truck a bit like the NO scrub basher on here a few years ago anyway I may have to keep on dreaming but check this out Paul
  10. Well had some information come to hand today Did you know that Muslims were crucial in opening up Australia's vast interior ?????? Afghan Cameleers changed the Australian way of life for ever as they were the crucial link that opened up our vast dry country Interestingly enough these very Afghans as we called them but all werent, by the turn of the 20th century no longer desired or required their meat to be killed in the Halal way. And I quote this "The Muslim faith had diluted and halal-killed meat was no longer a requirement to the younger men." So I guess the real question is if our oldest part of our Muslim community doesn't require Halal food, I wonder is it the new arrivals to this wide brown or is it the over sensitive doogooders trying jump on the shirt tails of some other made up none important thing that the people they reckon they are trying to help have never asked for their help but their lives are so boring they have to create problems that no one ever had just to make themselves feel important ??? I don't have the answer to that question perhaps TeamsterGrrrl you can help answer that question for me ? And been the fact that the Muslim community in Australia doesn't require Halal killed meat that would then mean that Australians are not intolerant as you make us out to be and I will be expecting a apology but not holding my breath for it And for what its worth I already knew most of these facts, and did you know we have one famous train service that runs north south thru heart of Australia named after the Australia's first Muslims "The Ghan"? Paul
  11. Arent most ratios stamped on the pinion shaft ??? Paul
  12. I not gunna tell anybody in another country how or what to do but the treason laws in Australia need to be bought back in and enforced fully and burning the flag is treason and how people can walk on by not stop it is unbelievable at least these two blokes tried and good on them they get my full support Paul

  15. Who would have thought dealer networks ???? Back when IH was still around every country town had a dealer so every farmer in the country towns bought either Bedford IH or Dodge as that was the dealers they had And almost every farm truck was second hand say around five years old that had done its life as a full time truck so get sent out to the dealers to have chassis stretches and trays etc fitted Sounds like they have taken a look back at history They were a very smart business model back in the day Mum and Dad come to town they had a account at their IH dealer he sold fuel as well so Dad would run around to fill the ute while Mum shopped while Dad was waiting for Mum he would chew the fat and while Im here I'll grab some points for the scariffier and that part for the header and the this and that and to keep in Mums good books he bought her a new IH fridge Paul
  16. I'll have a good supply of Vegemite on hand for you, LOL. It will be funny to watch your face as you try it. LOL Paul
  17. Paul, this is truly amazing to me. I have thought about replying for a day or so but don't wanna start any do gooder BS. But then I thought, stuff em. You have done something all those years that would have been nervous and exciting all at the same time and been and lived in a place I have always wanted to visit and have a good look at. I reckon you have done more living than most of us will ever do and I am in awe of people like you and your wife that shift to a strange land, and its not a land like Australia or the US where your future is fairly certain or at least that's the way it appears to me. One day if I ever get to your part of the world, it would be really interesting to sit down and have yarn about life over there. Thank you for sharing a small snippet of your life with us. Paul
  18. looks like no rust so I gather Russia doesnt use salt like the US on its roads it sure would stand out from the crowd !!! Your gunna need a bigger Shed Vlad Paul
  19. Yep, I'm impressed. They are a huge truck to me and I have no doubt they were well built. I had never heard of them till the other day. Thanks for the info. Paul
  20. Hey Swishy, I do wonder how good Vagina-mite actually cleans white clothing and remove the smudge does it just cover it up with a big black smudge "see stain gone " LOL But yeah, the top paragraph says it all. if you weren't brought up on it, I don't think you will ever really get it. I myself reckon its the ducks guts, but that's just me. Other more inferior taste-budded people of the household. One past time I enjoy at breakfast use my knife in Vagina-mite first and then bung it in the jam and honey just to spread the taste it really gets the faces frowned on those that don't love it LOL. Paul
  21. Black sticky stuff, LOL. It's beef extract and salt I think, but I don't think anyone really knows. A bit like KFC's 7 secret herbs and spices Paul
  22. Dont you worry its not just Americans they want dead I reckon we need to bring back the treason laws and sort this out sooner rather than later Anyway back on to one of the true miracles of the modern world "Vegemite" dunno what they were thinking when they made it but I love it on my slice your own doormat toast for breaky each morning that and a cuppa will put lead in your pencil and get you thru a day Paul
