Doing a lot better job than I would have been able to do Paul -
Yeah Australia had real love affair with the leaker Swishy still has LOL and despite what a lot of people say on here they were and still are a great little motor and for 99% of all work done even today they still get along ok but as we say "you gotta drive em like ya stole em" LOL your busy stirring the porridge all day Think about this they used the 6 71 and 8 71 on road trains with gross weights in excess of a 100 ton would have been a very steady drive for sure but they got there and they used to get a million miles yes miles on them out here now for our crappy conditions and the weights they hauled thats pretty impressive and figures and B model Thermodyne could rarely match Jump a few years ahead when Mack had the cool power motors and the leaker was no match for them not even close , sorry Swishy LOL Paul

I have spent some time in a B model with a 8 71 in it still had the Quad box , The B model had the cast radiator up front never over heated even in Australia's hot climate and it drove ok no problems at all that I can remember except the noise Was told by the fella that owned it that it came new with 8 71 The fella that owned it had it on float work shifting his road building gear about and it looked like this had the air start fitted as well

Mercedes-Benz and Volvo make a grab for ACCO's crown
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
NO THIS CAN'T HAPPEN -
But if you look inside the gear or on the out side of the shaft is it worn doesnt matter what we think it should be if it is worn its stuffed but you should be able to see the wear marks on it I would think it will have a fare amount of movement in it even when its new Maybe go to your local truck parts person and grab the shaft and gear off the shelf and have a look at a new set ??? I dont think think from what I have read there is anything wrong with the transmission sounds like the clutch brake was torn of the input shaft (the chattering noise) and when the clutch was adjusted the bolt wasnt seated back in the clutch properly and went straight out of adjustment in a big way There is a fare bit of movement in those input shaft until the other end is back in the crank Paul

Air-ride cab question
mrsmackpaul replied to sodly's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I thought all R model cabs were air ride from the mid 70's onwards in Australia, when the cab was extended the cab went onto become air ride but I may have that wrong Paul -
Well I dunno much about it all but I bet Bob is feeling pretty bad and Jay handled it all fairly well I reckon Hope they sort the car out again quick enough and this doesnt knock Bobs confidence to much Paul

I dont have much faith any of the show anywhere these days even here none of them have any spine and need to constantly wipe their chins for all shit that dribbles out their mouths And as far as the UK and the EU go I couldnt really care the UK screwed the rest of the commonwealth all those years ago and caused untold financial hardship for the rest of the commonwealth all so a greedy few could screw the rest for a bit more money well its still hurting Australia today and goes to show your close allies arent really your friends and will bend you over and give the rough end of the pineapple at a moments notice if big business tells them to But I think they maybe needed to think this thru a bit more before they voted Paul

Hmmmmmmmmmmm seems some people like tell everyone else what to do reckon he should but stop trying threaten the rest of world and pull his head in Maybe he needs to sort his own crap in his own back yard before telling everyone else what to do this crap really gives me the jimmy brits Paul

Strange how when people talk about history these days they tend to leave a lot of details out. I had heard stories about Stalin but never learned about it at school. A lot of people complain about modern media these days, but it is a lot harder for these types of things to go on these days but it still does. Paul

Yes the people have spoken no doubt about that dont know how they are going to go unscrambling this egg though ???? Paul

Wow learning heaps here and yes I think a lot of the so could neutral countries back then were making a bucket load at expense of the lives lost When I was a kid at school we were taught the Hitler got into power on the promise of a loaf of bread for every person because of the armistice signed after WW1 Germany had to repay the cost of the war they couldnt but the Allies demanded that they did Germany lost all its territories around the world after WW1 and with that they lost the ability to repay the money owed the German people were starving in the streets and Hitler promised them a loaf of bread each if he was in power The thing that I remember most about learning that as a kid who was the worse, the ones allowed Hitler to have the opportunity to get into power by been unrealistic with their demands or Hitler him self ????? Whats that saying something about "Evil only triumphs when good people stand by and do nothing" Funny thing when my boy was learning about WW2 at school they dont mention any of this anymore it's almost like people are trying to change history his teachers werent happy with me let me tell ya when my boy questioned them about this sorry way off topic Paul

Volvo Group Australia with new marketing executive
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Yes Yes Yes and Yes again they will end up with the company they deserve the unfortunate part is when they really stuff the whole show and leave the workers are left to pick up the pieces Many years ago as a young lad I fixed lifts ( elevators ) in high rise buildings and a observation I made was every boss at the company was a lift mechanic and when the poo really hit the fan in a big way on a buildings lifts the big bosses would turn up and take their ties and jackets off and roll up their sleeves and help (they would actually do this) as we all worked together as one to fix the problem The effect that had on a customer was very apparent they felt they werent been fobbed off and fed a line of BS as the whole company was their doing their best to fix the problem . A customer watching this unfold in front of them even if we didnt sort the problem out that day they new we were all working to fix their problem and it always calmed the whole show down Step forward 10 years the Lift company gets sold to a Finnish company and they hired people like our blond friend above The new bosses answers were " well you boys keep on working away I'll take the customer out to lunch to try and smooth things over " It doesnt work the workers hate the boss because the boss has bailed and left them holding the baby the customer knows the boss is full of crap the company looses contracts because the customer is sick of the BS next thing the new boss bails takes a pay out and leaves behind un happy customers and workers So I guess what Im saying in a long winded way you are 100% correct with what you say Kevin Just one more thing way off topic but not really I hate this modern day BS when the appointed new boss says to the worker or the customer "we cant look back thats all in the past we have to focus on the future" what a fool statement is that if you have screwed up you need to look back to see when it was going right before you stuffed the show !!!!!! Its no rocket science yeah things change but the basics never do and if you stuff it well you gotta back to before it was stuffed and see what you did wrong Its like driving down the road and you make a wrong turn the further you keep going the wrong way the further you gotta back track to get going the right way Sorry way off topic but is it, if they really wanna sort their shit they need to look back to when it was going good see how stuffed the show rant over Paul -

The XB GT was a pretty cool machine but the one that every Ford fan wanted was the phase three XY GT HO they were the fastest 4 door production in the world for many years right up till the 90's worth a fortune now The XB was a big car by Australian standards and we never had the big block V8's out here ( we like to go around corners fast ) the old XA, XB, and XC feel like your driving a beached whale they sought of float along down the road I remember driving one around a cattle station and we were coming up on a gully with water in it so I gunned it thinking with all the windows down the passanger would be drowned wound my window up hit the water doing about 80 kmh or 55 MPH nearly face planted the wind screen them big fat mud guards ( fenders ) swallowed so much water But check this out if you have some time to kill sought of explains a lot about a our love affairs with cars, trucks, bikes what ever not a bad little movie and a bad ass XB coupe as well Paul -

mrsmackpaul replied to leweymeister's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
In todays world the answer would be no BUT I think you may well be surprised how good you can get that cab to look with just blocks of wood and jacks and some time What ever you dont use a hammer you will stretch the steel and then it will be stuffed Paul -
