K-7 trailer hitch for Jo-jo
mrsmackpaul replied to Geoff Weeks's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Looks good to me, that style of hitch is pretty common in Australia, most medium American size trucks that I see, and bigger have a big flat plat that hangs right done with all the lights They look strong and all, this is more of what I might expect to see in Australia Looks really neat Geoff Paul -
Well I have been mulling this over Ethanol fuel is what it is, Im as tight as a fishes ass so I buy the cheapest fuel I can and never have any issues And it is E10 Aluminium fuel tanks Im pretty sure used on light planes, drag cars and so on As such I think it will be fine with petrol So Im thinking if you want reliability that just starts and runs and gives the best economy Electronic throttle body fuel injection, holly and the like make complete systems that include a new electronic dizzy Doing this should make it as reliable as a modern car and I think the cost wont be huge Apart from that, carry on, it is interesting learning Paul

I was speaking to my brother today and asked him about the tank Top tank is cast but the name badge etc screws to a sheet that bolts to the top tank Dunno if its cast iron or cast aluminium We never got that far into talking about it Paul

Well he's never gunna sit behind the wheel in anything I own Paul

There was a bloke in Australia that tested all the winching theories and proved what was what A few surprises, you'll to adjust your viewing to appreciate the Aussies humor https://www.facebook.com/share/v/wEUbicuiyo6b38MQ/?mibextid=NnVzG8 Let me know if the link doesn't work, it really is interesting to watch Paul -
I would be thinking that is the case Vlad The world has changed a lot in the last 20 years and idiots are everywhere these days Terrorist attacks and the like I guess Funny how the world has changed so much, the Australian government was selling complete Centurion tanks not that long ago Guessing guns were made in operable, anyway no one cared Some people make a good living selling rides on the tanks thru off road courses, took my Dad on one for his birthday 10 years ago Paul

This how the armored ones are sold from the defense forces They cut the cabs and all the hoses cables and wires Paul

So I guess you need to start some where Some basics How fast is a comfortable speed for the truck and motor now ? How fast do you wish to be able to travel with out the truck reving its head off What size wheels and tyres do have What condition are these in, if they are buggered already it won't hurt as much to buy different tyres and wheels to suit a different back end if needed What type of motor are you thinking, smaller motors are usually happy to rev a bit harder than a large truck motor How much room is there to fit a different motor ?' Paul

Greased up board or a pallet jack is pretty much the standard deal Doing it with the wheels on is by far the easiest by a long way They just slip right on If you do have to drop the wheels for some reason, a motor bike jack works a treat If your on dirt, chuck a sheet of 5 ply down to wheel a pallet jack on Even if using a greased board a sheet of ply makes the job a lot more pleasant

Sign writers out here sit have a yarn for while to get a feel of what you want Some people then just the go I'm a tad more controlling I guess I new what I didn't want, no big modern scrolls Nice tight period correct scrolls, colours of pin stripes and scrolls I have no idea, the sign writers have a really good handle of contrasting colours I was happy with the outcome Only vinyle was my name on the door, it's a little different so I wasn't sure I would like it Wish I did get it in paint as well Paul -

Some ideas possibly for pin stripes Paul -
I think the point got missed here, if you have a broken axle and transmission hand brake Your hand brake is useless whether your in high or low range Plenty of medium trucks from the 60s thru to the 80s and beyond had a 2 speed back axle and a transmission hand brake Think you blokes call them a park brake Paul

We used to get chill blains as kids, I still have the scars on my toes, dad had scars on his ears from when he was kid All the puddles would ice over Mt brother now farms within a few miles of were this all happened and he never see's ice in puddles in winter anymore I don't feel the changes are as sharp, as in between winter and spring, spring and summer and back into autumn as they once were Those changes were very defined and mother nature didn't muck about I reckon some volcano in south America erupted in the late 90's and spewed as much crap into the atmosphere in a few days that we put there in couple of hundred years Everything we do must have an effect, is it a big enough effect to cause the changes we are having ? No one knows for sure Scientists rely on funding to get grants to research To get money they need, a issue that's so big it out shadows everything else is needed Who remembers the hole in the ozone layer The radiation from microwaves was gunna kill us all Everyone was gunna die of aids 8n the 80s The W2K bug when the clocks ticked over midnight to the year 2000 The rising sea levels There's a long list of stuff that was gunna change our world that got bucket loads of funding Did the funding change any of the out comes ? I think it probably did, but to how much, we will never know Maybe today's world we like to have something to blame when ever anything bad happens ? I hope the earthquakes and tremors have settled down Paul

Wire gauge
mrsmackpaul replied to rasnodgrass's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Assuming your in the State's, you need to use U.S. wire guage which is different than other countries That been said the correct answer is above mine Take a sample and compare, if it's you can't find the exact size, go the next biggest Paul -
I dunno if it is changing or not, I do wonder if we just find out about everything so much quicker Gotta remember it was only a life time ago news like this never would of reached Australia and today I find out in a matter of hours I remember going to A.I.M.S (Australian Institute of Marine Science) about 50 km south of Townsville on the north eastern coast of Australia I learnt heaps at the open day, I got talking to a scientist fellow and asked about global warming and climate change He proceeded to slide out these large trays, maybe 6 or 7 feet long and the had core samples from the Great Barrier reef He explained how the reef grows a fresh layer each year, just like a tree grows another ring And by the colours of each layer they can tell how wet or how dry the Tropical Monsoon wet season was, the sediment washed out to sea leaves a layer on the reef and this changes the colour He went onto explain we have had over 50 years in a row drier than we have ever seen and also 50 years in a row wetter than we have ever seen So is the east coast of Australia getting hotter ? Still to early to tell Yet in NewZealand, down the bottom end of the south island the glaciers are retreating at a fast rate of knots So I have no idea To me, the sun feels hotter and as soon as I stop Im looking for shade Paul

Watched the second video this morning All pretty impressive to me, well done to all involved I guess thats the easy part done And yes shifting big extremly over size things is a challenge Dunno how wide that trailer is but probably every bit of 15 feet or more I'm shifting a trailer in the coming weeks that is way over size and the paper work etc gets complicated to say the least, and it's no were near that size, just over 17 feet wide and about 60 feet long Just load this stuff is a challenge Paul
