yeah you have to pre select it just before you shift poor explanation from me I dont think it would change any good if you tried to shift it at same time as shifting the stick I always clutch any stick shift but thats just me and am no expert Paul
-

there looking like Tim's paint colours they like the 8x4 configuration in NZ it appears in a lot of pictures I see Paul

yep sounds about right as soon as you flick the switch on the knob the they try and shift and as described above in post 3 you shouldnt really pre select as it puts load on the selector fork and its only the engine load on the transmission that stops it shifting as soon as you flick the switch the selector fork is wearing (dunno if that makes any sense) as you say it sounds like your air pressure is to high and because the air rams are inside each other one way has a bigger ram than the other which is also as you describe ie it will do it shifting up but not down also some are plumbed up with only one regulator some with two so maybe only one of the regulators is crook if it has two if that makes any sense you can hook a air pressure gauge up to each side of the ram and see which regulator is crook dunno if any of this makes any sense at all Im sure someone else will jump in and explain it a lot better if I have ballsed it up Paul

On top of the box but what's the problem before you get into ripping it all apart? Paul
-
Hmmmmmmm Tim your not the first person to say that or something along those lines. There has been talk about this on some other Aussie forums and most people seem to feel the same way. Kelly stepped on a lot of toes from what I understand even if I cut it in half and divide it by four he upset a lot along the way and goodness how many mum and dad firms he owes bucket loads to not good for them Paul

Now this goes to prove what I have being saying all along these cool power Macks are the very best of the best the fuel economy figures I read on this forum at times are outrageous for tippers and the like I keep on saying how these old coolpower Macks get 6.5 MPG or better on single trailer work I get better than 4.5 MPG on road train work day in day out these trucks might not be as refined as the trucks of today but and its a big BUT they will make you more money than any of the newer trucks around if driven right and they will make this good money day in day out pulling big loads or running empty very interesting reading as I have said before in Australia the "Truck and Bus" magazine did repeated road tests back in the day and the Mack always out performed every other trucks Im more than happy to dig this old stuff out to share if anyone wants a look might take me a week or so to find it Strange how in Australia Mack must have had a lot more freedom to do what they wanted the first F models had a shaft that ran across the top of the dash to hook the steering up for RHD then they put the cab on a R model chassis to solve the problem these became the FR series Thanks for sharing top read Paul

sounds like the governor is worn in the pump but if it is it must be pretty bad or something is loose because most times when you get it off idle they smooth out and only hunt at idle Paul -
MACK OF NASHVILLE "CROOKS OF NASHVILLE"
mrsmackpaul replied to bulldogmack42's topic in Truck Stories
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM the problem with all of this it all depends on what side of the counter your on If you owned a shop and spent six hours trying to get to the bottom of a problem would you just let the customer take it away with out paying anything for your time I would think not or worse still if the if you had to pay a mechanic to try and fix a problem in your shop for a customer would you not want to get paid for the mechanics wages of course you would But if your the customer and and your truck goes into the shop and comes out still not working would you want to pay for it of course you wouldnt and then if you had a shop and a customer brings in second hand parts and wants you to try and fix their truck using second hand parts and the problem still isnt fixed you wouldnt want to try and use second hand parts to start with and then if it all goes pear shaped you have to deal with the drama of trying explain to the customer why and then give him a bill and a truck back that still isn't right you no the customer is gunna be in a shitty mood , are you then expected to do all this stuffing around and not get paid I think not I can see it from both sides I can see you feel like you have been screwed but I think if you are honest with your self and you could take a step back the shop has to charge you for something the truck was in their shop getting worked on and they need to get paid for that whether the problem was fixed or not I guess if you loaded the wrong item on a truck whether its your fault or not and drove 3000 miles and when you get to the other end its not what they wanted you would want to get paid for driving 3000 miles perhaps before you go down the road any further you might need take half a dozen steps back and try and see it from their side because if you take it to court no one wins ever and perhaps it all might look a bit different if you took a step back and have a long hard think they have got to charge you something for their work good luck Paul
