  1. yep I would only use chains on some thing like that I reckon straps should be banned you get no feel as to how tight they really are like you do with ropes . I think the only reason they are trying to ban ropes some might (say they already have) is because most people dont know how to use them anymore and rather than people been forced to learn they just give them these poxy straps .Same with dogs they try and make us all use those poxy ratchet type dog instead of the older over center lever type of dogs because blokes just dont how to use them any more (I think you lot over there call dogs load binders ?)   4. yep Im pretty sure the cat is a rebadged Lexion and all Challanger ie Cat farm products are Agco The old ford Im fairly sure is a rebadged or made under licence Class combine Im buggered if I know how anyone pays for all this flash gear ???? Paul

  7. price and parts its pretty simple we have bucket loads of R models and super liners and to buy parts from Mack Australia is like selling an arm and a leg so if importers can bring in whole trucks they get a bucket load of parts make a squillion and even the truck owners are happy because its cheaper than buying from Mack with out the smart ass answer from the spare parts person about some peace of old crap and the sales guy trying to flog you a new VolMack"O" piece of snot and these older Macks are tuff I mean real tuff theres no computers to let you down out the back of bum f--k and most blokes like these old trucks because they will pull all day every day day in day out and they just wont let you down OOP's Im getting off topic but I like these older trucks for real work and I guess as well as they were built they still need parts So easy way to fix the problem Mack need to start making real trucks again with motors with balls and well I guess then silly buggers like me might buy a fresh one maybe ???? I have had very little to do with road rangers as far as working on them if it was a Mack Id say check the air rams for a crook O ring failing that Id say pull the back off might have a whole heap of crap stuck inside the gear where sliding dog slides in the only other thing would be the gears are badly worn either way sounds like the back of the box needs to come off Paul

  17. I'll stick with what I said before I dont no if your people at the top have thought this one threw ??????????? Now im not as technical as the rest of you but I do believe theres is a much easier way to check what ratio you have step 1 park the truck some were level and chock the front wheels leave maxi brakes off ie as no braking applied step 2 tape a piece of string to the front drive shaft and jack up only one front wheel step 3 rotate that wheel one complete turn and count how many turns of string are on the drive shaft and divide by two step 4 return wheel to ground and remove string from front drive shaft and tape to rear drive shaft step 5 jack a rear wheel and rotate and divide by two what this will all show is what ratio's are in the front and back diff's with out pulling anything apart and it is easy to do on your own so no need to wait for a mate to show up hope this is of some help Paul

  21. well I wonder if the motor half of the bell housing is aluminum or cast iron if it is aluminum perhaps some time earlier in its life someone over tightened the bolts and streached the threads and now they keep coming loose no matter how hard they get tightened Also a hightensile bolt is only strong when it is at the correct tension so once they are all tightened to the correct tension if they start to come loose just a little bit they wont work properly and shear and I guess once one bolt is gone it loads the rest up and then just snowballs I guess if this is the problem the threads could be heli coiled on sugar cane harvesters loctite wont work any good and araldite is used instead have to let it set over night or longer and the bolts wont come undone without help you need to heat the bolt and it softens the glue then comes undone ok I dont think its the driver these bell housings will take a fair flogging with out giving any problems they handle a lot more power than the motor been used and to think that the problem only started with change of the motor should tell were the problem lies both surfaces have been machined so an alignment problem is unlikely Anyway hope some of this waffle helps a bit Paul
  22. to my under standing but I am most likely wrong all those Fordsons were made in Cork Ireland the home of Henry Ford and then sent around the world they were very dangerous tractor as the draw bar hitch point was in the wrong spot and the tractor would rear up right over it self in a matter of seconds so ford added those big back mud gaurds to try and stop it as said above they made hundreds of thousands of them even with henry fords backing of cash ford never seemed to quite get it right with farm equipment he made lots of stuff cheap and flogged it off but once we got to the 1970's other tractor people were making stuff cheap and better designed and as they say the rest is history Paul
  23. was it a motor swap or did the same motor get rebuilt and put back in ? If it was a swap is the old motor still about ? Paul
