Why so few F models?
mrsmackpaul replied to Ditchdiggerjcf's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
16 weeks will roll on by pretty quick Paul -
Whoa boy Hang on a moment before just chucking a bucket full of coin at this Some really basic fault finding With full air pressure, put your foot hard on the brake pedal AND HOLD IT THERE Once the air gauge changes with the air use of air, does the pressure slowly drop or does it stay constant If it doesn't drop slowly you dont have any major leaks and the brake chambers don't need changing Looks like these are S cam brakes With no brake application NO FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDALPEDAL You should be able to just pull the slack adjusters by hand The slack adjuster should pull out the rod to the can (brake chamber), when let go it should spring back in quickly, almost with a snapping action If these don't, the S cams or the rollers on the shoes are binding and the assembly will need disassembling, cleaning, lubricating and replacement of worn bushes etc This is simple work and cost virtually nothing but time and as a bonus you get to learn about things Some other quick advice for what its worth Pull the wheel and hubs and brake drums as a complete unit A pallet jack comes in handy for this If you don't have a pallet jack A board greased up is next most common thing Either way pulling the hub and wheels as one is the simpleset and easiest way Paul

Great job Get out and enjoy it Paul -
In the mean time if the CRC/brake clean shows a leak a big dollop of grease will seal up the shaft to prove it's sucking air Even if the CRC/brake clean jobby shows nothing shoving grease everywhere will help show any possible air leaks That been said I reckon theres a blockage in the carby from what we know so far Paul

Never worked on these motors so Im not gunna be of any real help, anything I say is just thinking out aloud So I need to just ramble a bit I believe you can rule out mechanical as the motor has been rebuilt You can rule out the injector because you swapped it I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest that the valve burnt because of something wrong and not wear and tare So it really only leaves the electrical side of the injection system, (I am assuming the injectors are fired eelectrically ?) Is there a high resitance connection causing the voltage to be lower than needed and as such the injector is firing a bit slower ? I have no idea if this is even possible but just throwing a idea out there Lot's more smarter people with these than me on here Paul

I think any of the ratios would be fine, a 12 speed in deep reduction is really really slow and you can break the drive line if your rough in deep reduction So I can't imagine any situation where it won't be lower geared enough with any of the ratios suggested Paul

Autocar's were never a very common brand in Australia, used primarily as really heavy duty type of truck, road trains and heavy haulage Sounds like it's going like a rocket Matt Dunno what the speed limit is in the U.S. but you would do your ticket in Australia at 78 MPH Enjoy Paul -
going to buy a new driver's seat
mrsmackpaul replied to Hook n ladder 1's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
There's a joint about a hour away that wrecks headers (combine harvesters)and farm tractors Thinking some of those had pretty good seats, maybe a matching pair there the Princess can make a new cover for Want low back type of deal, Steiger and Versatile tractors had pretty flash seats, even the 86 series Internationals had pretty good seats Paul -

Kiwi Mack RB688RST Rebuild
mrsmackpaul replied to Mackman686's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Bob I can tell you they most definitely did have the E9 over there It just happened to coincide with a family holiday to NZ that the 50 years of Mack in NZ was on, pure coincidence, I swear it was I was stunned that even though Kiwi Macks look almost the same as Australian ones they are definitely custom built for NewZealand Well worth jumping on the kero kite for a look one day if you get a chance Paul -
A couple more piccies from the trailers working days Back a boiler section in under boiler number 2 on B station This is one of two B models still working in the 90s building these power stations Looks like it has a Lincoln welder on the back Dragging boiler sections in Loy Yang has some of the biggest boilers in the world This is because they burn low grade brown coal, there's enough proven coal to supply Loy Yang for 570 years but left greens have convinced the poxy governments to pull the pin in about 10 - 15 years time Bloody greenies Paul
