When Scania trucks roamed North America
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel's topic in Other Truck Makes
We expect nothing less from you Joey As some further useless information to your cows methmethane It has now been worked out by the scientists in Australia and NewZealand that the same amount methane is produced whether the gas comes from the grass dieing and breaking down on the ground as it does from when a cow chews her cud The methane from a cow or sheep is mainly produced when she chews her cud and burbs the gas out her mouth and not out the bum as commonly said Yes more side tracked sorry Paul -
I have never known anything like this, I just do as my father taught me Do them up tight, back off 1 1/2 flats on the nut I wonder close what I was taught is to whats meant to be done On a six sided nut 1 1/2 flats is a 1/4 of a turn, but on 8 sided nuts my fathers plan falls apart a bit lol And those other weird nuts sometimes found on drive axles leave dads plan in a shambles lol But Dad was "just we're 1 1/2 flats are meant to be" or a bar and a bit of wood on the floor and rock the wheel while checking for movement, this also seams to work okay for me Still I have now learnt the proper way today, thank you Paul

I dunno about looks, they are a good goer and will make any other brand look pretty average on performance Im surprised with the talk of big power and lack of it I read about on here that these aren't sellig like hot cakes in the States Paul -

Teflon tape usage
mrsmackpaul replied to skydawg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I rarely use tefoln tape except for plumbing in the house I have had tiny bits break of and block airlines and get in fuel lines Hydraulic oil corrodes it and it begins to leak a long time later I rate it about aa good as silicone or those form a gasket types Thread sealant, the none hardening type, loctite is my preferred brand is all I use these days Use proper thing for the job, to many sure cuts and "she'll be right" type of thinking have come back to haunt me over the years, I think that's called life experience 😆 Paul -
As far as I know and we all know that I know two tenths of stuff all If the injector pump or the drive to the pump is moved at all it will need to be spill timed I have done this before and for me it is very daunting and needs two people How ever it isn't impossible and no special tools are needed If you can wait until tonight my time I'll scan the information out of the manual if I can find it Paul

R Model AC Options
mrsmackpaul replied to DeereMan's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I bought a red dot under the dash thingy for my truck a few years ago Imported from the States Princess has no idea how much I spent and it will probably stay that way until Im planted Anyway after getting this marvelous bit of gear I have to chop it apart to make for RHD instead of LHD Should of just flipped the photo on the order form So god only knows when that might happen Apparently they are good units, will let you know in the next decade or two Paul -

Joey I was watching a old government video on energy and the energy sources for the state of Victoria Video was made in 1981, brown coal was our main source of electricity then and power stations were still been built, Victoria has the largest brown coal deposit in the world 90% of all fuel (diesel, petrol, fuel oil etc) used came from Victorias off shore in the Bass Strait Also from Bass Strait was a almost never ending supply of gas Renewables were spoken of and we were big users of them But not in the way spoken of today by the woke tree hugging leftards of todays world Renewables were our forests, our dams, our rivers etc And even our coal I guess if we wait long enough But it was put like this, "the sun evaporates the water to turn it to clouds to make rain to grow trees to fill dams to generate power to irrigate farms etc" That wasn't the exact words but along that sort of a line of thinking What does this have to do with diesel utes and petrol utes ? Nothing at all except we just seam to be going around in a big circle and some jokers are making a lot of coin out of this mess Paul

The Titan and Superliner sold out here have the MP 10 rated at 685 horsepower as standard from the factory CH cab so I dunno what the issue could be in America Paul

Air throttle was fitted to some E6 macks in Australia 800 and something the Australian Army had or still have Hunting like this is pretty standard I feel when the compressor is pumping The oil pressure will be a bit unstable at low revs as the governor chases the engine up a down Paul

I had the exact same thing happen a few years ago, remember that we drive on the wrong side of the road over here or is that the left and you lot drive on the wrong side of the road,no matter you get the drift Some passed me on my left (passenger side in Australia) and then attempted to make a U turn across the the front of me The first I new about it was the explosion of glass in front of me I couldn't see the car until it got pushed out the drivers side Lucky I was slowing for a red light The drongo gets out and his mum follows and she starts trying to blame me Cut it our lady, her son the driver was good about it and accepted the blame right away I was going slow and the glass was under fuel tanks and drive tyres The mum then lie's to her insurance company claiming she was driving Apart from a couple of scratches on the bull bar and a driving light twisted a bit there was no damage to my truck The little Rav 4 was stuffed Surprised me how silly people can be Paul

So let's try to get some more detail When you say it wont down shift Are we talking it wont split the gears, as in the air shift part of down shifting ? Or it wont allow the gear stick to shift into lower gears, as in change down manually between by shifting the stick Or is it both of these can not be performed Or maybe the range change is the issue I gather this is a 18 speed Mack ? If so, from what I understand these are built along the same line as any other Mack transmission, just more refined A main transmission with the range change and split been seperate section bolted on, two seperate gear boxes close coupled It would be highly unlikely that all sections have failed at the same time So if you can establish which gears aren't down shifting it can help establish what part of the transmission has the issue or if it is the transmission at all So is it the splitter on the side of the stick The range change on the front The stick it self Or a combination of two or more of these Paul

I like it,I dunno how you blokes get so close and just hell, we're going for a drive for icecream I know I would, but brains and trains and missing blah blah blah lol Looks fantastic Paul -
Thanks Brocky I have no idea what it was or is like in the States, never been there I can only imagine that a country about the same size as Australia but with 10 - 12 times as many people must be a bit more crowded, as Brocky has been out here he would have a much better idea than me on this In this world I live in people are almost trying to make us ashamed of our heritage and make Australians and Australia like the rest of the political correct world, I tend to dig my heals with this train of thought So Slim and Joy were very Australian and once Slim found his feet he was happy to do what he wanted and in Australia things really took off for him He had a number on all major forms of music at the same time, yes number one with the young bucks and the old foggies and everything in between "Pub With No Bear" Anyway, enough waffle from me Paul
