Finally some DM progress
mrsmackpaul replied to mowerman's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Vlad I think the heat from the motor causes most of the issues, all the different materials are heating and cooling at different rates, this causes the paint to crack A lot might have to do were the truck operates and how long it operates for A hour driving off to a truck show as compared to 12 hours at -40° c or +40° c Anyway it's a few weeks until that stage is reached Paul -

Short trailers and short drawbars on dolly's dont help to keep it straight How long are the trailers ? And good progress on the bonnet Fiber bonnets dont repair real well, I something happens in the fiber glass as it ages You can get stuff that goes in paint to make very flexible They use it on motorbike mud guards, sorry fenders for you lot and it allows the plastic guards on dirt bikes to bend around a lot I wonder if when pain time starts, at the primer stage anything and onwards if it would help with cracking etc Happy days Paul -
Bob the Landcruiser V8 is still available A long wait if you want one, they sell them quicker than they can get them here Landcruisers have been that way in Australia pretty much since they came here in the mid 60's Tougher than a F100 or equivalent and are used the country over I think Landcruisers are what everything else is measured against Paul

A Nissan what ? Work ute is a Nissan Navara, looks very similar, goes okay but has coil sprung back end so it is perfect for most things except it rides a little different with a ton in the back than leaf spring back end, but honestly how many times do we ever do that Doesn't do a bad job though, hope it all works out okay for you as Im sure it will Paul

Question on 2000 mack RD 688 rears
mrsmackpaul replied to Ricky Beals's topic in Driveline and Suspension
I'm just trying to understand what happened So if there's no skid mark and no wheel turning then the wheel must not of been touching the ground So for this to happen either something is getting caught on the lead axle stopping travelling back up or the trailing axle stopping it going back down There's not a huge amount of parts on a camel back that could make this happen So perhaps a good look over it all might be the go Looking for any fresh paint missing etc Paul -

What a great thought, I bet some people get stumped when they see the result Some years on a YouTube show called Roadkill The lads got a old race car and got it all going and on the road Took it around to show to the original fella that built the car I think they thought he was gunna be all excited, the original builder wasn't and I think it bought back a lot of no so good memories Funny how we think we are doing the right thing and someone is gunna love it A bit like when we buy the cook a really great Christmas prezzy or birthday prezzy and the look on her face as she opens it tells us we missed the mark lol Bet the fella it came from would be surprised Paul -

Your hard on tyres there Bob Well at least your not breaking the bead yourself on the side of the road, some diesel poored into to soften the rubber, belt belt belt with a hammer and bit of broken leaf spring More diesel more hammer, more diesel more hammer Diesel helps soften the rubber a bit and sort of allows it to come unglued Then "how did this tube get stuck in a tyre with no glue" pull yank swear, swear some more, oh the fun of been out the back of bum fu k repairing tubed tyres Some one remind me about the fun in driving trucks lol You Im only joking, have a great day amd get back on the road shortly Paul -

To me all these types of actions do is create divide If it was a straight man only parade there would be huge outcry To me were heading down a slippery slope I describe the world today is like when I was a kid learning fractions in maths at school Find the lowest common denominator, that's how society is headed, letsnot inspire each other to be the best we can be but lets drag those that achieve down to level of those bludgers that wouldn't work in a iron lung Dunno were it's gunna end, having a job and working hard was once something to be proud of Paul

Well I can sympathize with this dilemma Bob Not to worry, our time is coming, I'm sure of it Paul -
I don't think most alternators have a fuseable link in the circuit However it is important to remember the purpose of a fuse is to protect the wire, nothing more, so fuseable link size should be based on the wire not on the alternators ability I found this chart bellow that should you give some idea As far as the pulley goes, the only downside that I can think of is alternators become effective at a different speed and can spin a lot faster than a generator As such most alternators have a lot smaller pully so the alternator with a large pulley might not be useful until the engine revs pick up, if it was mine I would hunt about for a small pully as truck motors only rev low to begin with Do you know what size pully the alternator is meant to have ? This might be a place to start, or what the rev range is Good luck and great progress, a bugger about the glass, I have zero luck with glass fitment and just pay the coin as I break more than I have success with lol Paul
