Does my truck have air ride cab
mrsmackpaul replied to Ricky Beals's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
As Joey has said, super easy Okay here is my observations of many air ride R models I have never had to change shockers, I have always found that the linkage between the ride height valve and the cab isnt strong enough and must slowly over time bend thru normal use If I disconnect the linkage and operate the valve until I have 1 1/2 - 2 inches between the rubber stop and the bottom of the cab it sits on the ride is improved to level of comfort a Mack owner can only dream of The little air bag should be sitting reasonably stout but not fully extended Lift the little arm up and down, fully extend the air bag, the fully collapse it This will give you a good indication of were you want it to sit and the clearance available So once you have established this bend the linkage to suit, however the trick is to have it just a tad higher than were you want so any slack in the valve linkages and the valve and the connecting rod are taken up Now the lecture, dont waste your time undoing and trying to adjust the ends like most knob jockeys do at the start, remember this was the correct setting when it left the factory and has slowly bent And there wont be enough thread to get the extra length needed Then sit back and just glide along on a cushion of air, oh yeah baby it will be like a whole new truck SUPER SMOOTH NOW BABY......... Anyway this is what I have found Paul -
Definitely never seen one of these And as for power divider that was mentioned back at the beginning I can see a housing that looks a bit like one there but as to how it would on a single drive ?? No idea at all My first thoughts were a bit like LSD but I cant see how that would work f from the housing out the front The banjo housing looks a little like a normal top mount Mack housing turned 90 degrees No idea if that is the case I assume that it is double reduction ? Not really that amazing, my Dad always said, "if it is crook, it's crook from the top down" Another example is "lead by example" I was a dairy farmer for many years, we weren't left a family farm and had no experience beem a dairy farmer They (the dept of agg) had farm walks on local farms and the farmers took turn hosting these The farm walks were called "Target Ten", get 10% more profitable for 10 10 years in a row I had little to no experience been a dairy farmer but I made some observations very early on that I still use today I observed that we (dairy farmers as whole) had all pretty much the same thing, we had cows, land, pasture, a dairy to milk our cows, irrigation water and so on However some farmers really appeared to make it work and others always had the ass out of their pants It was all in the detail, the small stuff, the way it's done and not what you have And the recipey used last month, last year to make it work is very different than the one that might be used next month, next season It wasn't just finding a formula that works and sticking with it, it's in the detail and constantly fine tuning it Obviously this Hansen had a very good eye for the little details that made a huge difference Or that other saying, "watch the penny's and the pounds will watch them selves" Paul

Mate I looked somewhere I shouldn't have looked and saw something I couldn't unsee So have had to something about it Now I have had shiny red bits And the truck us up on the float for a tub underneath These are first fine days, last 3 we have had in weeks Couldn't get the old bucket bucket of bolts down and out of here probably up until yesterday, even if I wanted to do All heavy slippery sticky clay here, so I have just left it were it is until I get it back together And yes Joey, still dicking about with improvements to the air start, I have had only a day or so since I mentioned the air start to actually do anything Rain for a few more days and slop again Rivers are all running bankers and over in spots but we have it better than a lot of other people so I don't complain Looking people's x rays reminds me of as a kid and even today when I look at x rays I always feel crook in the head and guts right away Yeah I know, I'm a limp dick I have had my fare share of burns, busted bones and done a lot of stupid stuff Busting my back in a couple of spots in a cyclone (hurricane for northern hemisphere people) was by far the worst Taking dump after a few days was a major victory, some times it pays to celebrate the small wins, wasn't much more than a marble but boy it felt good Anyway I best get back to putting gear away before the rain tonight Remember.......... Mate I am flat out like a lizard drinking at the moment Got the old Mrs Mack in bits, started a simple job and the more I looked the worse it got and the deeper I had to dive on lol Had a truck show I was gunna take the old bucket bucket of bolts to and thought, "I just give that a quick clean up" and it has snow balled ever since Work is dragging me away from what I want to be doing, but I feel pretty much everyone is in the same boat there 😄 I have always jokingly said to anybody I have worked for "this would work so much better if you just gave me the money and let me stay home" I do say that very tounge in cheek as all the no hopers sponging off the working man really dont have any pride or self respect There's nothing like working to make a dollar and make your own way in life, I can't really explain that any better sorry Well thats good news the leg is as itchy as all get as it means your on the mend and all is well Today kicking off in the worlds greatest country The old bucket of bolts in the open air work shop getting some unexciting stuff done, the old tart Mrs Mack is a sexy beast Paul

Joey not surehow the recovery is going Saw a great movie documentary type of deal of when Australia won the American cup Was on Netflix so maybe you can find it It wasn't kocking Yanks or the U.S. at all I remember watching the race live telecast to Australia It truely was wonderful and I'm not ashamed to admit at times I had tears rolling down my cheeks watching this movie You see Australia really is a little pip squeak of a nation that by rights shouldn't even be here We are driest inhabited continent on earth, we have a tiny population for this huge land mass and yet we punch well above our weight on the world stage So have a watch if you can find it Hope that leg is feeling better Paul

Yep it gets motivated all right, but for how long ? Laugh at old mate holding the camera pulled away when he backed off at the end lol Paul

Cleaning air tank
mrsmackpaul replied to skydawg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
As said just drain it, back in the day before we were all soft there were no air dryers at all on trucks As part of your daily job as a truck driver was to drain all the air tanks at the end of each shift They used to have taps on them and you left them open over night Leaving low air pressure as Joey suggests has never worked for me as the air doesn't seem to pick up the oil at all but rather leaves it behind You could pull the tank off and put petrol (gas for Yanks) in it and slosh it about, drain and repeat a few times Only a litre or quart I think you blokes call it at the most of petrol each time Apparently even in good old Australia we have air dryers on trucks today, I have never seen one fitted to a truck or otherwise Paul -

When Scania trucks roamed North America
mrsmackpaul replied to kscarbel's topic in Other Truck Makes
They were prone to dropping valves amongst other problems, but that was the main issue as far as I'm aware That been said they were a very good motor but not a million mile motor, yes some did but they were the exception The E6 and E7 are million mile motors with out a doubt and probably some of the best motors of their time Paul -

I dont think I would put a dressing on that at all, not unless it was getting covered in flies This stuff is the best I have used for burns Yeah it's a bit girly but.... Mind you, I have had some doozies of burns but you've out done me by a long way Take care Paul
