  1. On 21 July 1969, Francis "Frankie" John Hunt was on patrol with 3 Platoon, A Company, 6RAR, when Lieutenant Peter Hines stepped on a mine, which activated and killed him. The explosion injured several others, including Hunt, who was standing closest to Hines. Hunt was air-lifted to the military hospital in Vung Tau and then evacuated to Australia for further surgery at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital to amputate his severely injured legs. He spent 19 months in rehabilitation in Australia. In 1983, musician John Schumann wrote and released the song "I Was Only 19" which was performed by his band, Redgum. The song references Hunt and the mine explosion: "Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon" and was performed onstage in the Domain for the Vietnam veterans' reunion concert on 4 October 1987. 3. WOW, that's a impressive looking truck I imagine that the wrecker part was fully custom built and not a off the shelf type of deal Paul
  4. Ball race turn tables or fifth wheels would be by far the most common in Australia More stability, less movement and so on All a matter of what your used to seeing I guess Paul

  9. Thats really the only one I know of, I know more were sold here in the late 60's but I dont think it was many And I think maybe the 20s pr early 30s some were sold in Australia They are a good looking truck Paul
  10. Maybe your doing the gauges up to tight and cracking them inside You could wash out the air tanks but I wouldn't worry about it, the mushroom sauce is in the system now and has been for many decades So if any rubber ware is gunna be stuffed from the oil it's well on it's way I would just drain the tanks regularly at first, every few hours to begin with, or every time you take it out, which should be done anyway at the end of each day you drive it Paul
  11. Yes it would help a lot to check with some pictures of the results if things checked Paul

  13. Bugger me, thats different, was the motor changed a lot to allow the oil to drain from the rocker cover ? Paul
  14. I see a cop car like that and it makes think of running moon shine. Or at the very least watching a movie about running moonshine 😃 And then BJ and the Bear springs to mind He always seemed to be topping of his tanks with moonshine to either hide it or out run the law A good looking car Paul
  15. I think the length laws in the U.S. been relaxed had a lot to do with them falling out of favor I wonder if bore wears in a oval shape or maybe it makes no difference at all Paul
  16. Keep us updated, I gather the Green Hornet is back on the road, seem to recall it was in the garage getting work done recently Paul
  17. Ford D series and Cargos had motors that laid over from new They were built from the 60's to well into the 90's The motors were better built than the trucks I felt Slant 6 were available in Dodge trucks in Australia until the normal inline 6 cylinder hemi came of age Paul
  18. Were is the fifth wheel king pin positioned, as in how far forwards of the centerline of the rear axle or axle ground Maybe shift it forward a bolt hole or two to transfer more weight to the steer Paul

  23. I ordered a matching pair of duel cab ute and wagon Ford Ranger from the local Ford dealer some months ago as a surprise for the Princess on our wedding anniversary, we bought matching his and her vehicles in 2006 ? and thougt I would do that again Still nothing showing up yet at the dealer I dunno it's a lotta coin and I'm having second thoughts Every time we park beside a SUV type of thing the Princess comments about "only wankers are driving them" and "Toorak tractors" (Toorak is Melbournes flashest suburb) Thinking I may not of thought this thru fully yet but the paperwork is signed so I may have to speak to the dealer in the comming weeks Theres something like a six month wait on new vehicles since we stopped making them in Australia I keep thinking about I should of bought a classic 63 or 64 Chev Impala that I have always wanted I could buy a fully restored Australian delivered better than new Impala or Belair for less than just the ute Paul
  24. Must a distant relative of Bundy rum I guess The bundy bear has led me astray as a young bloke, he may look soft and cuddley but he will make a mess of yah quick as look at yah Paul
  25. Okay, so both of these have new wires I gather If thats the case back to basics You need a test lamp, not a multimeter or any fangled thing Anything other than a test lamp is only helpful to someone that knows about and is trained in electricity, if you don't a have a full a proper understanding your wasting your time with a multimeter, digital is even worse Right a test lamp like this Simple, basic and old school Start at the battery and perform the most important test, test the test lamp Then one lead on the positive, test to the frame of the truck, it should light up Then to the cab, it should light up You need to scratch a bit of paint off to make a good connection, choose somewhere not obvious Once you have established the cab is grounded, test as close to the fuse panel as you can to prove the ground to somewhere around the fuse panel on the cab, once this ground is established Take the aligator clip off the battery positive and clamp it to that ground Then with probe end of the test lamp, see if you have any power at the fuse panel Then report back with your findings and maybe a photo or two describing your findings And if you get anything thats a bit suss or iffy, take a step back prove the test lamp again and start again, electricity is either on or off, no in between so a dicky reading tells you your lamp alligator clip might not be grounded properly or something has changed Paul
