Video wont play I am assuming you have a transmission with some air shift, as in forward reverse, high and low However it sounds like your loosing air pressure or theres crap in your gears no allowing them to slide fully in I would change the transmission air filter first Then if the problem is still there, check for air pressure on the gear box should be about 60 psi, anywhere from 45 to 75 is fine Then drop the transmission out and lift it apart for a look-see Or get us some more details on the transmission model, theres a few Maxitorque types Paul

The fact that it has lasted this long I think says the repair is fine and more than up to the task The repair has the runs on the board to show it's fine As we say out here "if it aint broke, don't fix it" Paul

Roof linings are still available in Australia, I couldn't justify the cost, call me teddy tight ass but I think they were $1600.00 You have a great starting point there Paul

Sounds like a fare amount of effort to cut up and chuck away when done I would make a strong steel saw horse but big enough to straddle the chassis This could be made in three bits, each side and a steel beam across aways You still have the saw horse for later and you didn't have to dig a hole Anyway your idea sounds good enough except for getting the post into position and getting it out of position I have found hydraulic rams big or small take a lot more effort than I can apply easily to open and close, and big rams take more effore than I can apply with a big ratchet strap So you might need a plan 'B' there if you cant collapse the ram Paul

Cant believe I have missed this until now Lucky lad to have such a truck, found the MIG welder to be really handy for getting broken bolts out, even just a drill and a jigsaw with a steel bit works wonders on bigger bolts Have never seen bonnet (hood) supports like yours so am learning more everyday These blokes are gunna be salivating waiting on photos of your whole truck I would of thought 350 hp would of been plenty for highway work, as in cruising down a highway at the speed limit but I dont live in the U.S. so dont really know Paul

Good F and FR models are out there sitting in yards in around Australia but people are generally to tight to spend the coin for what ever reason, Im guessing they aren't as desirable as a R model maybe dunno But no one wants to spend the coin to buy one and then chuck another 30 or 40 grand at it to make it into a good truck Paul -
Im am surprised at the money, but not really as good R models have become thin on the ground very quickly Paul

I have said this style of thing many times on here and on a Australian truck forum It might not be a perfect situation but the brand is still going and despite some carry on Mack in Australia at least stocks plenty of old Mack parts They (Mack Australia dealers) tell me as long as people keep buying old parts Volvo will keep making them Dunno how true that is but it makes sense if you think about So it is up to all of us to support Mack because if we don't we will end up with nothing and only have our selves to blame Or at least thats how I see it Paul

Mrs Mack came about because of the chrome ladies on each side of the bonnet (hood for you lot in Yanky land) Anyway it sort of stuck as my best mates surname is McIntosh, his wife (the diff, shes like a old Holden with a crook diff, whines the whole bloody time so I have called her the diff for many years now and she hates it) Anyway she commented one day about my chrome ladies and I told here they were modelled on her, she got all proud and quite impressed that she still had it in the looks department I then pulled the bonnet open and told her "and thats when you take your bra off" she wasn't impressed as they were now pointing to the ground lol, we still laugh about this stuff decades later And Paul was chucked on the end of Mrs Mack for the first forum thing I was on as the members might of got confused and think I was a sheila, not that there's anything wrong with that, I quite like shelias and plenty of them make good truck drivers as well Paul

The good old Aussie Valueliner, they sold really well and were rated for tripple road train work just like the standard R models before them The 350 E6 was a capable motor and would regularly gross 115 ton on road train work just like the 320 coolpower before it Yes bigger motors make the job easier but 350 hp is plenty as Mack proved for decades Paul

Mate I honestly don't know what the industry standard is in the U.S. for four headlights That been said 4 square or rectangular headlights don't look right to me on a R model I guess a lot of it is what are used to seeing And I prefer the series 1 Superliner round headlights for appearances than the series two Even the series 1 Superliner cab sitting lower looks better than the series 2 which is a couple of inches higher in Australia Paul

Well thats all I would do from the information I have at had I try not to over complicate things Most important thing is to get prepared before starting, I never steam clean anything before starting, I would like to but I have no access to one This been said I would clean the area as best as I could and wash it down with petrol and take for a drive about to be sure I know exactly whats leaking Once I am sure of this I get well organized with parts and work out how I'm going to tackle the job and then make a start The job is fairly simple, or at least to me it is so just getting things sorted before starting is the best plan Paul
