  1. Thanks Mike ! I am always learning something new on here.
  2. Looks great!! Would that truck have come factory with a white steering wheel?
  3. Thanks for sharing pics of your project. Unfortunatley, I don't have any ideas for your interior. I guess I'm not very imaginative, I kinda like original. Or close to it. Not saying custom isn't cool, just not my taste . Hopefully you keep posting pics of your progress. Its looking good so far. Keith
  4. Ok, everyone should be sitting for this………….this is what happened with me As always j hancock has the # right. In my opinion anyway. When I buy filter elements from Mack, they started not coming with the gasket. Not usually a big deal because they are usually in good shape. My R688 needed the filter gasket ,so I had to order one from Mack. The gasket 16MD23 has another # also, not sure if it is the volvo #, its 21A02 It is what you described diggin , 12 holes, aprox. 15 inches O/D It cost $ 38.83. The filter element 57MD31A cost $ 33.76 I can't figure this out, I guess its above my pay grade. Here's a pic of my air cleaner diggn, hope it helps Keith
  5. That was in the good ole days Mike . Not any more . I can check a part # when I get home
  6. I hope you get your new position. I'm sure you will be a true professional at it. Good luck!!! Keith
  7. What a sad story. I can't help to think how sad the fellow that had owned it for 23 years feels. Good luck with your next step, what ever it turns out to be. On a lighter note. It looks like a rat rod now….I hate rat rods. Keith
  8. Very nice R. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Congrats on the sale. Glad to see it stayed local, and didn't go for a boat ride. Someone got a good truck!! Keith
  10. I'm think'n our provincial government up here must have been involved in that operation.
  11. I like it…….and the flaps on the bumper. Keith
  12. I hope you find your Grandpa's truck. Keith
  13. Welcome Chalky, Looking forward to seeing some pics. Keith
  14. Anything that is dependable and makes money, is pretty in my book.
  15. I sure like that steel nose RD. The other two are not too shabby either.
  16. congrats on the new F. Looks great! Keith
  17. Very good job! I love the 2 tone paint and the colours. Just looks right!
  18. Sounds like a cool truck. I think your right about no interest . For a truck that was so popular in the day, there doesn't seem to many people that want to keep them around. I'm loving mine. I am going to put a historic licence plate on it…under $20 year, insurance is around $150 …its the cheapest vehicle I own. I can't use it for work, just to play, show, but thats what I have the Macks for …to work. Good luck, I hope you get it. It will have a nice home to retire at! Keith
  19. Congrats on the new R . Looks very good. I like the chev in your avatar pic to. Keith
  20. Would this be the Loadstar 1850 you would be talking about? Nice truck!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO-U282iVkg
  21. Jim , I surprised my dad with it last night, he just remembered the good days , but I know there was a lot of bad days also. This is a 30 + year old pic of him. Mike, I'm glad it has the tilt hood too. I don't know if you noticed, my snowplow has a butterfly hood. Don't know if it is something from mack or if frink (company that installed the plow) made , but I hate standing on my head to do repairs.
  22. The cab and chassis will be painted at some point Vlad. I want to keep it original colours. I'm not sure how I will do the frame yet. Sandblast or just take a wire wheel to it. I hate getting things sandblasted, but I know it is the best way to go. I am going to experiment a little first. I am sold on chassis saver though, so that will be my paint of choice for the frame
  23. Its funny you say "if you had the money and a place to store it indoors" . I don't have either of them. It is looking like my pickup just got kicked out of the shop and I am a little poorer than I was before.
  24. I will try to keep this short... It all started last week when carlotpilot posted about parts wanted for his loadstar 1800. I got to thinking about all the different loadstars dad had. and getting my drivers licence in a 1976 loadstar 1800. Then I got looking at the internet. Looking at pics.Finding information, I didn't realize they were built in Chatam Ontario. And like the Mack plant in Oakville Ontario, it is now closed…..Then I thought, wouldn't be cool to have one. I looked on line for trucks for sale. Not really expecting to see anything, but thought it would be interesting to see more pics. Anyway my story ends with……….. 1974 loadstar 1700, was never licensed for the road(never seen salt) kept inside, 345 gas, 5 + 2 trans 7 + 17 axles I think. in my driveway now. Thanks carlotpilot
