All-original (factory paint, drivetrain, interior, etc), 48k miles.
  2. I think I understand what you're saying. You're in favor of cut off switches but they need to be located close to the batteries. Is that right? I'm with you.... I'd much rather invest $100 in a switch than risk an unattended truck fire. Mostly I worry about mice getting at the wiring. Superliners have 2 pairs of batteries, correct? I assume they're 12 volts. Wonder if they're wired in series or parallel.
  3. Do Superliners run a 12 or 24v electrical system? Do most hobby trucks get by on 2 batteries or are 4 generally required? Call me nuts but the thought of leaving an older truck parked inside a building with mice potentially gnawing on wires scares me to death. I'd like to be able to disconnect the power from the truck while still leaving a maintainer on the batteries so they're always fully charged. Do others disagree? What do you guys do with your trucks that sit a lot... especially over winter?
  4. What's the best way to add a battery disconnect to a hobby truck that doesn't get a lot of use? I know they make cut offs for semis but I'm not familiar with them. Can anyone show me how they isolate their batteries for storage (to prevent fires)? Lets see your disconnects. Also, once the batteries are isolated, do most folks keep a maintainer on their batteries to keep them fully charged? I've always followed this routine in my antique pickups with good success. Just wondered how I might do the same thing with a "big" truck. Can anyone shed light on this? How do you attach a maintainer to a 4 battery setup, for example? How many amps does the maintainer need to be? Thanks.
  5. So, now that you've teased us..... what did you do at Hayward?
  6. Thanks for all the comments and tips fellas. I don't plan to do this work myself, though. Just wondered how difficult it was for a body shop to do. Say you have a hypothetical 3" hole to repair in a flat section of a hood (hole was drilled for an accessory that's no longer there). Is that a difficult/expensive repair? Not being a Corvette man, I'm not very familiar with how hard it is to find someone to work on fiberglass.
  7. As someone who's never worked with fiberglass before.... how hard is to to have holes filled on a fiberglass hood? A big deal?
  8. I'm in the Midwest. Does anyone know what the situation is with regard to California trucks and CARB regulations? I have an interest in a low-mile, early-90s Mack in CA that may be coming up for auction. Don't have many details but I was just wondering if a truck like that could even be legally run in CA or not. I guess what I'm asking is should I expect there be much local competition for this truck? Or is there low (no?) demand in CA for older, pre-emission trucks? Are the older, mechanical trucks essentially damaged goods in California? I thought I heard you couldn't run anything non-computerized out there. Does anyone know the real scoop? Thanks.
  9. Cool find! It boggles my mind that a truck with 51k miles could be put out to pasture like that. Even if something broke at some point, how does one afford to buy an expensive truck like that and just let it sit all those years? Do you know the back story?
  10. Surely I'm not the only one who saw this... am I? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-Mack-Superliner-KT-450-Cummins-/322263936829?forcerrptr=true&item=322263936829&rmvsb=true
  11. I know this is old but does anyone happen to have a scan of that article in Bulldog (from 2012-13)?
  12. Here's another pic of an old Autocar. Seems odd to me to have a tandem trailer but a single axle tractor. The load seems pretty well evenly distributed between the truck and trailer. So why is one tandem and one not? Just the discrepant tire sizes?
  13. Wondering what ever happened to this refurbishment? Any finished pics?
  14. Thanks for the link! Interesting stuff. Wish he was a better photographer, lol. Doesn't sound like he checks in here much. It would be nice if they corrected some of the minor flaws on that truck and had someone photograph it for posterity.
  15. Does anyone have any better photos of this 1 millionth Mack? Would love to see it in better detail. Or does anyone know who owns it now? Kinda sickening to see it covered in salt, lol.
  16. Hey, speaking of Western Macks, does anyone have a scan of the "Mack Western" logo that was used in those days? Seems I even recall one with a bulldog wearing a cowboy hat. Does anyone have any of that old artwork?
  17. Not as metallic but nice!
  18. Wow, what a cool color! Does anyone know what that shade is called? I've never seen blue fire trucks before in my part of the country. What was the reasoning for blue? Doesn't seem as highly visible as red or safety yellow. Was that a standard fire apparatus color? Would love to see that color on some other trucks.
  19. Couple more I found here.
  20. Not to draw this conversation off-topic but, speaking of oil change intervals.... how often do folks change oil in collector trucks that don't get driven much? Annually? Bi-annually? Just curious what others are doing.
  21. Here's the only pic I could find handy. I know, not much of a load on that trailer.
  22. Single-axle tractor, tandem-axle trailer, please.
  23. Of course now that I go through my photos I can't seem to find example pics of the kinds of single axle trucks I'm talking about hauling tandem trailers. If anyone has good representative photos please post them here. I think it's interesting to see what kinds of loads single axle trucks can haul. Thanks.
  24. Thanks, guys. So the heavy-duty extended bumper was RW 700 only? Can anyone confirm? Is this something that can be added or are the actual frame rails different at the front? It looks (from what I can see in photos) that there are extensions bolted to the front end of the frame rails. Can anyone with a heavy-duty bumper confirm/deny?
