They use everything but the squeal

OK so I'm almost ready to register this thing and get an inspection sticker before the end of September when big brother and the state of Calichusetts implements the new inspection sticker regulations Oct. 1. The new sticker machines are hooked up to live streaming cameras and an outside contractor working for the State of Ma. will be watching from a cubicle someplace making sure that a fine tooth comb is used on everything. From what I've been told no deviations from stock are allowed. all emissions stuff must be present. I want to get this truck through at least once under the existing system because I have a hard time believing the big brother representatives on the other end of the camera are actually qualified to know what they are looking at an will cause me nothing but trouble when they see a Mack body on a Chevy chassis. I hope that once it;s gone through once I'll have an easier time next year. Today I got the toolboxes mounted, battery, cables and batt disconnect in. interior is all buttoned up. made up a temp rear light panel. and did some mockup to get measurements for the bed sides and front bumper.

Just turned on Dirty Jobs. Mike Rowe is making Scrapple!!!!!!

Could be thrust bearings. When I happened to meet the original owner he said it was always hard to steer since new. When I had it on the truck if you drove down a bumpy road it would try to turn into the nearest driveway on it's own.

Hi Carl, when the front is jacked up the it wheel spins like the big wheel on The Price Is Right. Now that it won't leak air so much I think it will be all right.

I was going to call on the one you bought but but waited a day too long. I think it was only about an hour and a half away from me.

I think it would look pretty much ok without the big plastic dog bone thing on the grille and without the 2 aliens sticking out of the hood. IMHO

Thanks Larry, The window kit I got on ebay from Gearhead Enterprises in Iowa. It does flat glass only and I had plenty of room to get the whole thing in bolted to the door panel. I just had to loosen the bolts holding the new regulator and then tighten them after I got everything situated. They seem to work pretty good so far.The whole kit was only $125. I wanted the window crank switches too but they were way too expensive. You need to go with a worm drive cable because that just curls up inside the door and makes for more clearance.

I did add a tank, it couldn't keep up with the air leaking out of the piston. I guess it was in pretty bad shape internally.

New Mack for the fall

Ummm, I think I know where the unemployed Cat truck designers landed. -
I ordered a couple of toolboxes for under the cab and the came today (5 days earlier than expected!). I planned on painting them black as I am not a fan of polished diamond plate on old trucks. I'm thinking no paint now because that would be a lot of black with nothing breaking it up. What do you guys think? Also if anybody out there has an extra set of the wedge shape chrome collars that go around the wiper shafts and up against the cowl I am in the market for a set. They are the only things I can't find for this little project.

My Autocar had Air-O-Matic when I got it and although it made it possible to turn the steering wheel after a couple of turns back and forth the maxis would come on. I took it out and armstronged it for the last few years. After a couple of times being embarrassed backing my short single axle Shertzer I had to do something so I sucked it up and dropped $700 on a rebuild and although I swore it wouldn't go back on it's going back on. It probably would have helped if I had held off on taking it of because about 2 weeks later I met the original owner of the truck and he showed me the air valve under the dash where I could turn it on and off. He also told me that before it had the air assist he would put drivers he wanted to get rid of in this truck so they would quit. I don't know why but this is the hardest to turn truck I've ever been in.

The truck is going to look awesome

Had a little extra time this week, got the doors put back together, the fender panels mounted with 1/4" rivnuts and thumbscrews so they can be popped off without a screwdriver. 60 year old doors that once the latches were cleaned and lubed close like the door on a bank vault, nice engineering. Hood latches on, made up the step / toolbox brackets.

Yup it did. Everybody feom that area recognizes it immediately

I like it. Kinda like mine but I used a K20 with a small block. Radiator and ac condensor was a pain to fit in there. -
Got my new door glass made and got the power windows figured out and mounted, should be able to get the doors buttoned up this weekend. welded up a frame for the stepside bed and got it mounted hopefully I'll be bending up sheetmetal for it next week.
