That wasnt the line I was referring to mate but you're right, it can be a pain too. Every time you take it off you have to replace those thick orings. The line I was referring to is the discharge line that goes to the wet tank. They used to use a steel pipe and then it joined onto a flexible hose when some of the heat had gone out of the pipe. Cheers mate, Skip

I know on an E-tech 370-470hp the Jake setting is 17 thou. I dont know about the mechanical engines though.

They do take a while mate, as everyone else has mentioned. One thing you can check though, if its an E6 engine, they have a steel pipe on the discharge side of the compressor, and it has 2 90 degree bends in it which are prone to building up with oil and gunk. This will restrict the flow in a big way. Ive cured this by running a flexible hose straight to the wet tank. It will probably have a flexible hose on it already that joins to the end of the steel pipe and it can be porous from being hot and with the sound of the engine running you will never hear it leaking. you can remove the hose from the compressor and hook it into a separate air supply and if it leaking you may hear it that way. See how you go mate. Cheers. Skip

Yeah mate thats the go, just wind the adjuster screw down until it touches and continue a further 60 degrees(1 flat) and lock the nut up at that

Thanks mate, that would be good. That is the old girl in the calender. Have you got a copy of the calender? August is a good month 200 grand? Fair Dinkum? Thats unbelievable. I like the sound of 60 a lot better. That wouldve had to be a fair bit of paid labour. Im a mechanic so and I should be able to save a bit on the driveline side of it. The paint and body work will be the dear part. Just bought another F model today so it might have to wait a bit longer! I was talkin o the bloke who bought that V8 Flinny and he said he bought it out of Hobart. And it is green in colour. Cheers mate -

That sounds like it could be a good one mate. So the 3 yellow bangers in the photo are yours? Is that the Flinny in the Mack calender? It looks like a ripper. If mine turn out half as good as that I'll be laughin. Id love to have a look at it to get a bit of an idea for mine. I saw Padgetts W model when it was up here at the local Kenworth dealer and I know this could be considered swearing on this forum but I thought it was the benchmark for a restoration. So itd be good to see a great restoration of a real truck. Cheers mate. -

The one from Fingal was all red I think, thats the one Ive got. I think the one that has recently been sold is green. That is the one youve seen, would that be right? We have an old picture of Bonnys and it looked like it couldve been yellow, they also had a Flinny with a 6cyl in it Im thinkin. Gerald does own a Triden with a dog so I think you're on the right track. Hes actually got a single drive B615, one of 3 out here. Thanks for the invite mate will certainly drop you a line when we're headin down your way. Do you get to many truck shows? There is a good one at Warragul in a couple of weeks (Trucks in action). We should have a couple of F models down there if things go to plan. Thanks again mate, Skip. -

How are you mate? No I didnt get mine from that company, but I reckon I know the bloke who did, that was only recently. Is it a green one? Mine was in Tassie its whole working life but I actually bought it from a bloke in Wollongong. It belonged to Mt Foster Timber Co. in Fingal. Do you remember it? Do you have trucks yourself? You should've got hold of that V8, they are as rare as hens teeth. Only 25 came out. My records show I think there were 3 V8s in Tassie. Mine, Bonnys, and another that Im unsure of. Id love to get down to Tassie and have a look about. We have a mate down there who we met at Alice Springs, a good Mack man Gerald Olding, and Id like to catch up with him. Cheers mate. Skip -
Gday Mackboy, you are right, that is THE best show in Australia, its on every year but its huge every 5 years. We had our F model there in 2005 and it was a great show. There were about 35 B models there. The rest of the shows out here are fairly small and have all diferent makes and models. Its great that youve heard about Alice though. Cheers mate, Skip.

Thanks Thad, you are spot on again mate, I was thinking of an RD. The fiberglass R bonnet was standard out here from new in 1966, but never really took off until the early 70's. I have a copy of the build sheets for my R615RS and the steel butterfly hood is listed as an option as opposed to the fibreglass. The fibreglass bonnets really started to move when the R700's were brought out. The air ride cab was released out here in 1976 but I have seen a 1976 plated R model with the steel butterfly hood(flinstone), so they were available up until then. It had a solid rubber mounted cab as you cant put bonnet rollers on a butterfly bonnet for an oscillating cab. Talking to older drivers the Flinstone was a popular choice for its durability, but the plastic bonnet R models did end up being a lot more comfortable and easier to service. Cheers mate, Skip -
Thanks very much Doug. They both sound like unmissable shows. I will find out what I can from this end and let you know. It is a pity that there is not an all Mack show out here in Australia. One thing I really want to see is a twin turbo 864. Do you know of any over there? Anyway mate that isnt important at this stage, I will find out what I can. Thanks again mate, Skip.

Gday all. I was wondering if someone can help me out. A friend of ours mentioned to us about a possible all-Mack show over in the USA next year. Unfortunately he passed away suddenly at the end of last year and we havent heard too much about it since as he had the information. So I was wondering if there is such a show and if anyone has any info on it. Thanks everyone. Skip

Spot on Thad. They got the nickname after Fred Flinstones car for being so square looking after the B model. Were there many over in the USA Thad? Ive seen them in books but they are referred to as a DM. What exactly is a DM? -

How are you mate? Thats a great photo, the 3 toughest looking Macks made. Where was that taken? I notice you're from Tassie. Ive got a V8 flinstone from down your way. Cheers mate, Skip. -
Gday all. Ive put a new photo on my 'Aussie Mack' gallery. My brother took it when i was in his Superliner. What an awesome machine. If you see it, and the smoke, Thats what happens when you sink the boot into a 1000 cubic inch engine. I was in 3rd High(12spd) and at about 1400rpm or when boost kicked in I broke traction for about 60 yards. and the sound...... If there is a better sound in the world I want to hear it. When my digi camera gets fixed there will be a video to go along with it. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did. Cheers, Skip.

About the valve covers, Im guessing you have a 673 engine? I couldnt get them to seal with silastic so I use contact cement to glue them to the lids, then put them on the head dry. If you use this way, you have to put the glue on the lid and the gasket and leave it for 15 minutes or so, until the glue has almost cured. You dont want it wet when you put the 2 surfaces together. You only get one chance to stick them together so you have to have them lined up properly. Also when you put the lids on, you can use an extra fibre washer on the hold down bolt to get a bit more crush. I usually put silastic around the bolt head when Ive finished tightening them up. Hope it goes well for you mate. Cheers, Skip.

They look great mate. Are they 24" wide? What would they be worth? As long as you can ship them out to Australia I reckon Id take 4 sets, maybe more depending on price. Can you get back to me? Id fit out 2 trucks with them if I could. Cheers. Skip

That looks like a beauty mate. It looks like its in great nick. i just wondered about the model, shouldnt it be an R719? He says in one description that its an R715 and then in another that its an R713. If it was a 719 chassis it would be a hell of a collectors item. Thanks for pointing it out mate, I'll be saving the photos too. Cheers, skip.

I was thinking about that myself actually mate, I had a friend who replaced a fuel line out of his secondary filter on an R model and he didnt have the proper sized elbow fittings to screw back in so he used the next size down with an apaptor and he had the same trouble. When he put the right fittings back in it went like a dream. Its all good! Cheers

Sounds like youve checked everything externally, Ive had a cracked pickup tube cause problems before, whenever the fuel was sloshing around or was low and exposed the crack it wouldget a gutfull of air and miss and carry on. Also Ive had the end of a siphon hose intermittently cover the end of the pickup and starve the engine for fuel, that someone had so kindly left in there one night. Let us know how you go mate.

That is sounding like the noise Ive got. The truck runs and performs well it just pops. I dont think its the dynatard, Ive powered the solenoids at idle and it seems to be a different noise. How did your trucks run when they were making the noise?
